Guy Fieri in Times Square..NYTimes review

Well said. I've never understood why people are offended by choices that don't affect them. I walk past every "Twilight" movie, but obviously a lot of other people like them. So be it. There's enough room for everybody in NY. The people who are eating in Times Square weren't going to hunt down the charming little place in Soho anyway.

Deli by mail?

Does anyone have any experience using the mail order service offered by the Carnegie Deli or Katz's? I wouldn't expect the true deli experience to come off the FedEx truck, but I 'm hoping it would at least be a reasonable facsimile of authentic NY deli food. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Where to Eat Near Eastgate Tower

I think "where to eat near Eastgate Tower" would suggest the OP would like to stay close to the hotel, which is between 2nd and 3rd on 40th Street.

Where to eat in Little Italy?

Excellent point! The vague term "tourist trap" has been an all-purpose putdown of so many places, some of them very unfairly.

playing tourist in a couple of days, X square area

I have nothing but great respect and admiration for you as a human and a poster, but when someone asks for something in or near Times Square, it's pretty useless to tell them to go to Queens.,

The Return of Al's Soup Kitchen International

Just read that Al won't be there for the opening -- but Reggie Jackson will be. Ugh indeed. Sure looks like this is the franchise people opening in the old location. I'm willing to be surprised, but I have a feeling this is headed for disappointment.

The Return of Al's Soup Kitchen International

That's a good point. The website countdown promises a free t-shirt on re-opening day. That's not very Al-like.

Should I take my girl out to a Steakhouse on first date? Teens

No steakhouse. It's too intense, and the beef will just make you logy afterward. Go someplace decent, but work your way up to a steakhouse later.

BTW, are you sure she's a carnivore? Steakhouses are for people who really like steak. If she's just lukewarm about it, it might be a wasted trip. Would she be comfortable in a place where a lot of guys in suits will be staring at teens?

The Return of Al's Soup Kitchen International

The NYT blog reports that Al Yeganeh is re-opening the famous Soup Kitchen after a six-year absence. It could happen as soon as next month, which is odd since he always closed for the summer and didn't return until colder weather did.

Al shut things down before to take franchise offers and start a line of supermarket soups. I hope he'll be back with his usual quality. The stand was always one of my favorite lunch options.

Garbage Pizza

"Garbage Pizza" is essentially pizza with "the works," an assortment of toppings.

Keen's Steakhouse - Don't Go!!!!

I didn't say I found anything remarkable. Didn't even address that. My point was instead of posting "Dont Go!!!!" just state what the problem was, then I'll decide for myself whether or not I want to go. Posting "Don't Go!!!!" makes it seems like there's something dire rather than a disappointing dish.

Keen's Steakhouse - Don't Go!!!!

I have a huge problem with a post that says "Don't Go!!!!" about a restaurant, then offers as flimsy a reason as this. How about something like, "Keen's Steakhouse -- Disappointing Appetizers," which would be more to the point? Then I could read your criticism and decide for myself whether it's major enough to chase me away. "Don't Go!!!!" implies something dire, like health code violations. I'm disappointed that this has been allowed to linger for this long.

Top 5 Most Overrated in Manhattan

What sense does that make? A $1 hot dog purchased on the go from a street cart isn't a dining experience as eating in a restaurant is.

I will put the Carnegie Deli's corned beef sandwich against other deli in NYC.

And, original poster, why do you care if people want to eat hot dogs from sidewalk carts?

Carnegie Deli -- ever no line out the door?

No bar area at the Carnegie. I only go there late at night, and there's no line then. The proximity to Rock Center probably makes things extra crazy at this time of year. Before someone comes on and sneers that the Carnegie is for tourists, I find their corned beef sandwich superior to 2nd Avenue Deli's. There, I said it.

I also get takeout at Carnegie, and avoid all the minimum order/sharing charge/rude waiter issues.

Great grilled cheese?

When it's cold and raw, I want something as basic as a gooey grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of soup. Is there any place that does an especially good job with the basic grilled cheese (even better if I can get some bacon on it)?
