Brilliant!!!!!!! Thank you for that great idea!!! :)
Pleas help with my holiday dinner party
Oh man!!! So I live in the Bahamas and I just called my two places I get meat from and finding lamb shoulder or bone in leg of lamb will be next to impossible over the next couple of weeks.... something to do with shipments not coming in and only working with what we got! :(
Now I have to start all over again :( I can get chuck and I was looking at this pot roast from Ina Garten
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/company-pot-roast-recipe/index.html
I was thinking I can make a veggie side disg that could also stand alone as a meal for those who dont want meat (Im thinking a veggie parm casarole or butternut squash lasagna). I would make mashed potatoes for the meat.
what do you think???

wow- Thank you to everyone- I do know that everyone likes/eats lamb however I see all points about cooking for a large group and agree I should maybe think of something else... I do like the idea of leg of lamb- I really do want to keep it to something I can cook the day before or have fully prep and only need to slide into the oven type deal. Sal Vanilla- and leg of lamb recipes?
Oh and Cherylptw- would you mind re posting the link? I Could not get to it... thanks!

Thank you so much for your advice. I was thinking I could tripple the recipe (12 lamb shanks) but that might be unreasonable.... any suggestions?
Pleas help with my holiday dinner party
Hello! I will be serving 11 people a holiday dinner on the 22nd and I am having trouble deciding on my menu. I have to work that morning and I have a 2 year old with me all afternoon so I wanted to do the bulk of cooking/prep the night before. I have not decided on apps yet (I want to establish my main deal first).
I was thinking of trying this lamb shank and orzo recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/bobby-flay/oven-roasted-lamb-shanks-with-roasted-tomatoes-and-toasted-orzo-recipe2/index.html
anyone try this? I figure I can make it the night before- I also would prefer the gravy to have some of the veg etc. still in it- do you think I should strain the sauce and add freshly sauted veg or keep the ones that braised with the meet?
I also need something else to go with this- chicken, seafood etc. Any reccomendations? I was thinking maybe a shrimp marinara type deal with crusty bread (no pasta)- I was going to serve family style with salad, bread etc.
Any suugestions?
Thanks in advanced- also if you think you might have a better dish I should try please feel free to share...

Viking 36 inch Gas cooktop or Wolf 36 inch Gas cooktop? Hood Advice AS well!!
Hello everyone,
We are building our home and after lots of research (thanks to this website!) on appliances we have made most of our descions. We live in the Bahamas so every brand is not as easy to get but there is a comany here that brings in kitchenaid, viking, wolf and Bosch (full service as well). Everything here is more expemsive (duty) so we had to keep that in mind. We decided on Kitchenaid for the fride/freezer, microwave, warming drawer, wine cooler and ice maker. Wea re doing a GE double wall oven. We are deciding between the wolf (5 burner 36 inch) or viking (6 burner 36 inch) gas cooktops. I love the wolf RANGETOP but that is not an option for us. After looking at the COOKTOP I think I like the viking better. (This is all based on photos online- have not seen anything in person). Anyone with experience with these please fill me in? Also I need to decide on a hood. They have lots of kitchenaid hoods but Im afraid they might not be powerful enough. Any suggestions on hoods with power but not crazy noise? (Bosch?).
Thank you all so much!

Penne with Spicy Tomato Sauce pg. 88 Trattoria-
Simple but oh so good! It is spicy and comforting... The only thing I did different was keeping large chuncks of garlic instead of minced. I let them saute in the olive oil and soften so it tasted like pieces of roasted garlic running through the sauce.
Delish!!!
What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]
Some of my favorites already mentioned (especially meat resting, paitence and small dish of salt). All make huge differences :)
I did not have time to read through all the posts (I will come back to it after work when I can take the time) so I apologise if this was already mentioned:
Never salt your mushrooms while they are beginning to saute- Wait until they get cripsy and then add salt- They are so much better that way!!
Keep a small bowl for garbage/scraps on the counter while you cook- saves lots of time!
Tried and True birthday cake recipes
I made the "elvis cake" from another post (chocolate chip banana cake with peanut butter frosting) last night and it was really yummy- Im still testing all the recipes but this was really good- Thinking I would skip the peanut butter but then I dont know if it would be the same. The search continues!
Tried and True birthday cake recipes

Tried and True birthday cake recipes

Tried and True birthday cake recipes
My son turns 1 December 8th and I would love to make his first cake and keep a tradition of making the same cake every year. I cant wait for him to get his hands into the cake and see his face after his first tatse ever! I enjoy baking but have never came across a really spectacular, moist, fluffy cake. Im open to any suggestions and plan on baking different cakes the next couple of months until I find the right one. Bring on the recipes :)
Please help me with sweet potato chowder!
I had the best soup I ever tasted in my life the other day and I am desperate to make it at home. It was a sweet potato chowder with chuncks of sweet potato and sweet corn in the soup. It was savory with a hint of sweet, silky and smooth with bursts of crunch from the corn. It was amazing! In my head im thinking roasting sweet potatoes and blending with sauted onions, garlic and chicken stock as the base of the soup. Then caramalizing corn kernels, add some sweet potato chuncks and simmering in chicken stock until soft- add that too the soup base- season with s&p, nutmeg and cinnomon (very little) and finsihing with some cream. Any suggestions, ideas etc.??
frozen spinach, need help
Thaw and squueze water- Sautee in a pan with lots of chopped garlic and some oilive oil s&p and then puree. Mash some potatos with a little buter, chicken broth, salt and pepper. and then stir in the spincah puree. Sometimes I like to add grated parm to the spinach mixture. It is really yummy- Even my husband who claims he does not like spinach likes this one. My 9 month old loves this too (minus the salt of course).
Finger foods for Bridal Shower
I had a cocktail party last night with finger foods and everyone seemed to be happy :)
Mini chicken empanada's that can be made ahead of time and frozen (which I did) were really popular. (I baked not fried which make it easy). I made roasted shrimp cocktail (Inas recipe) and it was really yummy- This time of year tomato bruscetta is always great and only gets better as it sits at room temp.
Cocktail Party/Housewarming Menu for 30
I would love the recipe for the wings!!! Sounds so yummy!
Food (Dinner) ideas for a new mom?
Im a new mom and the stuff we asked for the first few weeks were hearty soup/stews, baked pasta dishes, roasted chicken- homey comforting but easy meals. Breast feeding leaves you very hungry and you rarley find time to eat so these hearty meals were good during the few min. i got to get food in- :) My mother in law also made me a big bottle of vinagrette and cut washed letteuce so getting salad on my plate was very easy- I really found that helpful
leftover chipoltle pumpkin polenta....
I have a good amount of this really yummy polenta leftover and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I can use them up??
Thanks!

I love a good fried egg sandwich! I like my bread toasted and sometimes cream cheese and ketchup or sometimes the works- mayo, mustard, ketchup, hot sauce, sliced onions and tomato! I like to crack my yolk while frying the egg and i cook it so its soft but not too runny.... YUM! Oh and bacon never hurts in either combo!
10 week old Baby in the house!

Seafood pasta inspiration needed
My sister in law made a great seafood pasta the other night- Shrimps and scallops diced up and sauted with chopped onions- She mixed everything with a simple bechemel and then did a canoloni style bakd pasta- she stuffed the big pasta rolls and layed them out in a baking dish- topped with some parm and baked until bubbling- Really yummy!
My personal favorites to make are shrimp with linguini red pepper flakes, garlic, white whine and olive oil
or shrimp with a spicy marinara
What the heck I actually did with bulgur wheat...
That sounds so great!!! I will try soon- would you mind sharring the risotto recipe?
Thanks!
