Many thanks for all your suggestions. I am from Philly, walk and bike everywhere and have no problem taking care of myself. I travel often and seek out alternative neighborhoods, most not appealing to the average pedestrian- on the same note- I never go to restaurant chains or shopping malls. Will report upon my return.
