Bar / Sandwich Shop in Barcelona with no Name?
My guess is that Bittman of nytimes.com labled this the best sandwich in the world. I don't remember the name and, particularly don't remember the sheep's cheese but Bittman wrote an article a number of years ago in nytimes.
Palermo report
We're going to be there in late May - Please give me an idea of the price range.
Thanks.

Red Tide!
Told about the red tide by the seafood vendors and the restaurant operators in Mercado Central.
Sheila
We also ate at the Blue Jar - lovely English owner - great fish dishes - upscale - near La Moneda.
Santiago recommendations
Right now it's "the Time of the Red Tide" and none of the raw seafood (oysters, ceviche) is available OR SAFE.
Really good Italian restaurant is named "Tiramisu". I recommend highly. It's large and popular - Large selection of bruschetta, wonderful carpacio - and, of course, pizza.
Santiago recommendations
Be careful of the seafood - we're here now (March 6, 2011) and so is the red tide. Rules out ceviche and oysters among other things.
Tia Dona Tina is written up in nytimes.com for good Chilean food - good, but not terrific in my opinion.
Mail Order Texas Bar-B-Q
Be careful - one of the most OVERrated places in Houston. Try dozier's and also order bacon ends.
Sichuan Restaurant [HOU]
Try Thien Anh on Travis (two blocks north of Westheimer). Always crowded at lunch. Closed Saturday. Open Sunday. Their pho, duck salad and crepes are terrific.

Antoine's - last minute reservation or walk in?
Had lunch there last week. $20.10 each 3 course menu with 25 cent martinis - unlimited.
Food was mediocre. So was service. No Oyster's Rockefellerr at lunch. Mostly empty even with this special - should have no difficulty even in evening.

sweetbreads in houston
Tacumbara Taco Truck at Canino's Produce market on Airline Drive has terrific sweetbreads which she prepares and serves on tortillas.
My guess is that she would give you some that are cleaned to take home and prepare.

Cuvee
This is not a rating - I haven't been there yet, but today only go to groupon.com in New Orleans and get a half price certificate.

REPORT! - Thien Anh in Houston
There's also a Thien Anh on Travis just north of Westheimer on the East side of the street. Terrific goi vit aka duck salad. Great big crepes.
Cajun Seafood
fyi
Mardi Gras was formerly Floyd's Cajun Shack - Floyd as in Floyd's in Webster and Beaumont. Crawfish Bisque is terrific.
Greatly outshines Ragin Cajun imho
New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town
Mai's Burned today - 2/15/2010. Hope it will reopen. In meantime- while you're waiting, try Thien An on Travis. Wonderful duck salad and crepes. Also wide selection on Pho.
New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town
Is defunct. Jeanine's Bistro and Broken Spoke are remnants of original owners.
New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town
My husband and I ate here last Saturday (the day before Valentine's) with another couple. We ate: Tom Yum Goong; Pork Toast apetizer; Yum Woon Sen; a green shrimp curry; a whole redfish (very spicy - believe it was #11; coconut icecream.
The four of us decided it was one of the best meals we have had in Houston and two of us have lived here for over 30 years.
Pricetag was around $44/couple including generous tip. The owner couldn't have been more helpful in ordering.

Would you stick with your Oaxaca list or modify it? We leave for there tomorrow.

fresh fava beans in pod in Houston?
Sure, Central Market on the corner of Westheimer and Weslayan.
Goi Vit Quay - Roast duck & banana blossom salad - (longish)
I believe this is from the Hue area in Vietnam.
Singapore Chili Crab in Houston/Dallas/Austin?
Roti Prata - try Banana Leaf on Bellaire in Houston.
Best fine dining lunch?
I'd try Drago's on Lake Ponchatrain - wonderful seafood tho' famous for their charbroiled oysters. In Belle Chase, there's a great "joint" right across from a soft shell crab processing place - definitely not a fine dining place - just fine dining.
