Review: Dongbu Live Fish - Hwal Uh Sashimi - A Hidden Gem in Rowland Heights

been wanting to try this place for a long time, thanks for the review =) Sounds like a lot of food for a very reasonable price!

Pizzeria Mozza

probably one that has 30 people waiting in line and doesn't want someone to take over the table for 3 hours?

and Lakeshow is absolutely right. Not every restaurant needs to cater to their guests every whim. It's their responsibility to put out a good product and have efficient service and Mozza according to most of LA does a good job of that.

Where to buy Black Sea Bass?

Prefer to buy filet tho, i bought a whole butterfish the other day, such a hassle to debone and cook.

Where to buy Black Sea Bass?

Where can I buy Black Sea Bass in San Diego? I checked Point Loma but they didn't have it. Any other suggestions?

Family wineries of CA tasting.

Not sure if you saw, but there were plenty of cheese and crackers scattered around the place. I'm really glad they provided some snacks and plenty/plenty of water!

But yeah it got to be a real packed house once they let the public in. The trade tasting was much easier =)

Dim Sum for Dinner in SD?

The poster also says he wants push cart, who pushes carts of dumplings around?

Man can't possibly be wrong right?

I need a hamburger so bad! [San Diego]

I personally found Burger Lounge pretty plain. Really thin burgers with no real seasoning. So what if they use grassfed? I'd rather have a great burger =(
They also seem to have incredibly rude management who posted on my blog with fake usernames .

san diego lunch suggestions are hard to come by at Ebob =P
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys.

I need a hamburger so bad! [San Diego]

I'm craving a hamburger and I've decided to go get one for lunch, which place in SD has the very best burgers? Fancy burgers are nice but so are down home good messy burgers.

Best SD Vintner?

Check out this one at TFW, A real joy.

2004 Weingut Gutzler Riesling Auslese (Germany, Rheinhessen) 9/26/2008 clayfu 92

EXCELLENT QPR. Tropical fruits with a lemon undertone and as it warms up a little bit of heat. Creamy vailla with honey and pineapple on the pallete with great minerality/acidity (the type that almost tickles your tongue!). Ate it with some spicy food and it was just such a great match. It's a BIT thick for my tastes, but definitely not as syrupy as other Auslese i've had! DELICIOUS! Definitely buying more!

Top 100 from Wine Spectator

prices aren't affected for any of the wine other than #1. (usually). If it's outside of the top 10 you won't see a raise in price at all.

Best SD Vintner?

The only thing about TFW is that they carry alot of small production wines that very very few people have heard of. It's been very hit and miss for me there. They've either been REALLY good or just average for the price.

SDWINEco is probably your best bet for sub $15 wines. The service there is a bit uh.. lacking tho. I've never seen a place so ambivalent to their customers. Walk in and don't talk to anyone, see how long it'll take before someone asks if you need help.

There is good Thai food in San Diego

We had the beef and tendon soup on our first visit. There weren't very many pieces of beef, but the soup was really rich (if not a bit heavy handed with the white pepper) and has that nice sour flavor.

question for san diegans - what is the state of the food "scene" right now?

Give examples?

Tender greens has a menu that's the same at every chain... having a native SD chef means nothing. That's not SD cuisine, it's just they hired someone from SD. If tender greens was in Dallas and had a dallas chef would you say it's SD cuisine?

Wasn't a big fan when I went, I actually returned one of the soups. It was so bad no one at our table wanted to drink it. I didn't find it to be imaginative in the sense that your curiosity was perked when you saw it on the menu per se...

No one at the table was impressed by the food, small portions and the whole "we'll waive your corkage if you give us a sample" thing really put me off. (words from the waitress!)

Wine Vault and Bistro - SD

They changed chefs within the year. Good deal for $25 for 5 courses. Good service, friendly people.

there are also taco shops on every third corner in Los Angeles as well.

question for san diegans - what is the state of the food "scene" right now?

yeah, even if the food is just average people will line up cause they are blinded by the ambiance and thinking they are cool eating at artfully designed and "home style" restaurants then proclaim on yelp/chowhound how great this restaurant is.

Please don't make this type of restaurant, make a restaurant where you will be proud of your food.

Know of any SD must eats?

WORST RESTAURANT IN SD PLEASE DO NOT GO.

question for san diegans - what is the state of the food "scene" right now?

I think the food scene for "high end" dining is improving. Service isn't the best, but service in LA isn't that great either even at the 2 star restaurants.

The problem with san diego high dining isn't creativity, it's the quality of their food. Everything is good but I haven't had something so mind numbingly amazing. There's that one little thing missing that could push one restaurant over another and SD just doesn't quite have it yet.

Chef Celebration (SD)

$65 if anyone is curious about the price.

Temecula winery wins the "Gold State Winery of the Year" award.

Posting about awards at fairs is horrible. The people who do the judging have little real experience with wine, they just like whatever is sweet. As well no good winery will ever put their wine into a state fair award.

Temecula still makes trash wine, and South Coast winery makes some of the worst in all of Temecula. Oak chips, picked too early, no discriminating grape picking. Crap crap crap.

There is good Thai food in San Diego

My only gripes are that they microwave their rice .. and on occasion put too much white pepper.

Roseville -- New in SD -- Anyone been?

I do with the turnaround on the dishes were quicker. We went through 8 wines (which isn't quick) before we got the appetizers! We got there at 7 and probably didn't have a main till 8:45 or so.

Roseville -- New in SD -- Anyone been?

Great restaurant, just went with Cpt Jack and a large group. They took care of us real well. I had alot of requests because I had gathered my friends together for a blind wine tasting and every waitress, bartender, bus boy helped out in our preparation.

George is also great, very personable and helpful. Food was great for the price, I like the fact that each dish is under $30 and it's well worth that price.

The sauce on the lamb is a bit too rich with olive flavor tho, otherwise all tasty for the price.

We tried an incredible dish that's not on the menu. If you go within the next week you'll see a giant pig leg hanging.. they use that pork as a shaving for their melon salad but we got two plates of sliced meat at an undisclosed price (to you not me =P). WOW WOW WOW , easily the best cured meat I've ever had.

Bryan Flannery steaks

late reply, but one of the best steaks on the market. Don't purchase it from chefscatalog it's a rip off.

Call his store direct and have them ship to you.

Wing Hop Fung Wine!!

Chinese drink alot of Opus One, any "fine" dining restaurant located around a heavy chinese population will definitely have multiple vintages of Opus one on their list.

Cooking class at @Providence

Has anyone been to Chef Michael's cooking class at Providence? If so is it worth the $$ or should we just get the chef's tasting menu?

How detailed is it? Is it fun?

Thanks!
