Dallas Dim Sum

The only two real options:

Kirin Court (better ambiance). The fried shrimp balls and BBQ pork buns are great

Late Night Boston (GOOD) Restaurants

I'm flying into BOS at 10:00 pm on a Sat night. I have had a few short visits previously. I'm looking for a "can't miss" restaurant that is open after 11:00 pm, I'm open to all types of food. I'm looking at Gourmet Dumplings in Chinatown since they are opened until 1:00 am (been there previously and loved it) but would like more options. The next's day itinerary is driving to Cape Cod so anywhere between the airport and the route to Cape Cod would be helpful but not mandatory as I will drive for good food. Thanks in advance!

thefood truck craze

I stand corrected. Salsa Limon is now a participant at the Fort Worth Food Truck park. I went there yesterday for lunch. I think the stand on Berry Street across from Fuzzy's tastes better though.

I also tried Ssahm Korean BBQ. I had the beef (kalbi) tacos and kim chee fries. Both were tasty. The guys are awesome too. They seemed to be the most excited about being there.

Also there was Jake's Burgers there yesterday. They are serve sliders (burgers in the restaurant in Dallas) that were pretty tasty also.

Overall, since my last visit to the Fort Worth Food Truck Park, there has been significant improvement.

thefood truck craze

Salsa Limon is not in the Fort Worth Food truck park and they do have tasty food. Maybe I've just had food from a few bad trucks then...

Best Mexican Food in Arlington Area?

Mercardo Juarez off of I-20 and Matlock on the service road. Huge restaurant. Food is pretty good

Of course there is Chuy's and El Fenix but they are chains.

thefood truck craze

The Food Truck Park in Ft. Worth sucks...foodwise. There is a truck that does grilled cheese that is good but that's pretty much it. The fish taco truck is bland.

The food truck that I am most impressed with in this area is Gennarino's. They are two (or three) Italian brothers running a friggitoria. They have arancini balls (fried risotto balls). And their sauce is very tasty.

Korean Food in Fort Worth?

Sam Won is in south Ft. Worth off of McCart and I-20. It's better than most of the Korean restaurants off of Royal Lane in Dallas but it might be closer from Keller to go to Dallas than it is to south Ft. Worth. Ban chan is very fresh.

best fresh tomatoes

I've had tomatoes from Jimmy's Italian Market and they have been decent during the winter months. A few weeks ago, they were from Marfa, TX and $0.99/pound

Good Ramen at Sapporo

It took me too long to get to Sapporo. I had lunch there today and was pleasantly surprised. I had the Hot and Spicy ramen. The noodles had enough bite to it to hold itself in the broth. The broth was flavorful. My hard boiled egg was not cold (I would have preferred for it to be soft boiled maybe I will ask for that next time). The toppings were not the usually toppings but instead carrots, cabbage but they still were fresh and tasty. The ramen was served in it's appropriate ramen bowl with a ramen soup spoon. The pork was decent although I would like it to melt in my mouth.

I can't thank demigodh enough for this recommendation.

It was my server's first day and service was rocky. He forgot the menus, "silverware", and asked me if I wanted the bill while I was eating. The veteran girl server was quick on her toes, was able to answer all my questions.

Where can I find the best fried chicken in DFW? 15 mile radius of Irving would be great!

I had the liberty of trying Tto Tto Wa/Plus One Chicken Bistro this past weekend. Weird hours: opened from 3:00 pm to whatever

The fried chicken had a nice flaky but light crust better than Plus One Chicken off of Royal Lane. However, the spices did not penetrate to the meat. The sweet and sour sauced chicken was good (she can adjust the spiciness), tossed with mini rice cakes that looks like marshmallows. The owner was friendly and very nice. Tto Tto Wa Bistro beats the place inside of H Mart by far but not close enough to be in the same league as Plus One Chicken off of Royal Lane.

Cheese Shops from Chicago to Lake Geneva, WI

Thank you both for the recommendations. I am very excited on my first trip to Wisconsin to immerse myself in so much cheese! If you have any restaurant recommendations for Lake Geneva, I would greatly appreciate it also. Thanks again.

Good Ramen at Sapporo

Please rate Sapporo from 1 to 10 (10 being compared to Ippudo). Thanks.

Good Ramen at Sapporo

Thanks for the heads up. I am always looking for decent ramen in Dallas which I have given up on.

The only thing that concerns me is the menu. All of the ramen worthy places in NYC, LA, Vancouver have for the most part only three types of ramen: shio, shoyu and miso with different toppings. Sapporo has many more listed.

I am excited to see this new addition to the area.

Cheese Shops from Chicago to Lake Geneva, WI

I will be traveling from downtown Chicago to Lake Geneva, WI by car and would like to know if there are any chow worthy cheese shops in between or in Lake Geneva. I am also interested in any cheese factories/tours within a 90 minute drive of Lake Geneva if there is such a thing.

Thanks in advance

There is a place outside of H Mart that sells KFC (Korean Fried Chicken)? I can't seem to find it everytime I go

The place INSIDE of H Mart, Toreore, in my opinion is not very good when I did try it. Something about the spices just wasn't right. I had both the regular fried chicken and the one in sauce.

Air,
Silly question but did you eat the chicken after it was in the box for a little while? I usually get it take out. I usually eat a piece as soon as I get it and my experience has it has always been light and crispy. I also refrigerate it and it comes out crispy cold too.

If you are as big of a fried chicken lover that I am, please give them a try again. I have no relation to the establishment except for I am glad I found this place. My only complaint is it being a tad on the expensive side and far from me.

Plus One Chicken (aka No 1 Plus Chicken) off of Royal and 35 is the best fried chicken in the area hands down. Get the spicy chicken, not the sweet sauced chicken. The pieces are smaller, double fried but not greasy at all, and they are more expensive but worth it. Their baked chicken is greasier than their fried chicken but also very good

Chicken House (previously Brother's) is also good but in the hood.

Bubba's is better than Babe's although they are the same company.

Rudy's in South Dallas is good but greasy and I don't like to stand outside and there always is a long wait

Suggestions for authentic Chinese restaurant within driving distance of Fort Worth?

There is a First Chinese BBQ in Arlington if that helps

Ramen???????

I've had the Private Social ramen before. It's a nice try but too salty and does not have the typical ramen toppings such as Nori, corn, bamboo. From what I remember, it had an egg. Ramen at Tei An is much better and nicely balanced.

Suggestions near TCU

Fuzzy's Taco (near campus, serves fish tacos and such, very casual)

Blue Mesa Grill (on University, serves southwest fusion type food, nice atmosphere and food)

Lonesome Dove (celebrity chef Tim Love's nicer restaurant in the Stockyards)

Railhead BBQ (alot of people like them)

Texas de Brazil (Brazilian steakhouse in downtown)

Mi Cocina (upscale TexMex in downtown)

Reata (upscale "western" food in downtown)

Joe T Garcia's (Tex Mex, Ft. Worth institution, cash only)

Esparanza's (Tex Mex, related to Joe T's)

Lanny's Kitchen (upscale Mexican)

Nonna Tata (homeade Italian, very small place)

Lucile's Bistro (good variety-pizzas, sandwiches, lobster bisque, chicken fried steak type food)

You are only a few minutes away from Central Market (the best "gourmet" grocery store that Texas has, it will not disappoint)

Lombardi's vs Patzeria

I've been to Lombardi's and it's ok. It's cool to eat at the "first pizzeria." Pizzas are good (I had the pepperoni and also the sausage and mushroom), ingredients are fresh. The place is a bit outdated (I'm assuming original dining room and all). I got there 30 minutes prior to opening within sitting down not more than 10 minutes, the place was packed.

If you are going for the food, I would skip it as there are better pizza places in NYC. If you are going for the history of it, then you should go.

Where can I find good pizza in Dallas?

I tried Pizza by Marco (on Preston and Royal) this week and was not impressed. The crust was super thin which I like; however, the sauce reminded me of the smell of vomit (probably due to the high acidity content that you can also taste)

My favorites as of now:
1. Campania (Dallas location is the best, Southlake location too inconsistent)
2. Louie's (hate the environment but pizza is damn tasty)
3. Olivella's (good pizza but too frufru)

Dislikes:
Il Cano Russo (I've had authentic Neopolitan pizza before in NYC and it was light years better than this)
Cavelli's (not impressed with the pizza or the serve yourself environment)
Grimaldi's

Best Banh Mi in DFW?

You are absolutely correct. None of the other Pho 95 locations have the grilled pork/thit nuong banh mi like the one South Cooper location. Not even the other Pho 95 in Arlington.

I promise you pure heaven...

Best Banh Mi in DFW?

How funny. After reading your thread, I went to La Me this weekend. I was satisfied with the banh mis but nothing mind blowing and definately not worth the trip as I live much closer to Ba Le and Saigon Cali.

The ingredients are tasty but lacking quantity (I know it's typical for banh mis not to be stuffed but a few paper thin slices of cha (Vietnamese pork sausage) is lacking. I shared the pate banh mi which was good but again not mind blowing. The cha banh mi-no complaints except for more ingredients. I took home the shredded chicken banh mi which was also good but again not mind blowing.

Service was rather rude. We sat down looking at the menu, was not in the mood for anything more than banh mi, so we ordered the banh mi. Then they told us that the banh mi is to go orders only. I wish there was a sign that stated that.

LewisvilleHounder,

If you want the best thit nuong banh mi ever, go to Pho 95 on Cooper St (South Arlington). I have stopped going there due to management/owner issues but the food is outstanding. The ambiance is slighlty more upscale than your average Vietnamese restaurant but it's worth the trip. The butter and the meat just harmonizes together.

High quality ramen - is there such thing?

Coney Island: Worth the Trip?

I will be in NYC in the near future (have been several times before) for 2 1/2 days. I am a die hard foodie. My usual suspects are in line: Babbo, Peter Luger's, etc. However, I have never been to Coney Island. I am also a big hot dog fan. I would like to know if it is worth the trip to Coney Island to visit the original Nathan's hot dogs and maybe grab some pizza from Totonno's out there. I realize it's a 50-60 minute one way trip there on the subway.

Thanks in advance.

Superbowl weekend

All of those restaurants are in Dallas which is approx 35 minutes WITHOUT TRAFFIC from Arlington where the stadium is. Those restaurants are also on the higher end side and not sure if you would have a "fun" night there. If you are looking for night life, it will mostly be in Dallas in the Knox-Henderson area or down Greenville Ave. Both have many excellent restaurants and bars.

Hotels and leftover food?

No fridge = No leftovers unless the leftovers will be eaten that night or if I bring a cooler with me

Chowish suggestions near Omni Hotel, in Ft. Worth, TX

The Omni is in the downtown area. Texas de Brazil is in downtown, it's a Brazilian steakhouse, all you can eat, has a very nice salad bar if you are vegetarian. Reata is a Southwestern upscale restaurant, roof top bar, also in downton.
