Jfood adds another Gotta Have dish at Barrio (MSP)

Jfood -

I have to recommend the Pork Sopes the next time you check out Barrio. It's my go-to dish, and is consistently very good. Also, I can tell you that even as the weather gets colder & everyone is inside, the restaurant still has a great atmosphere. As for the guacamole, I concur it's not always perfect, and I've never been happy about the portion they provide for the amount they charge...as someone who lived in NYC for 7 years and grew accustomed to tableside guac preparation at places like Dos Caminos & Rosa Mexicana, I have always been underwhelmed.

NYCer Needs Recs for Houston Dinner - BBQ vs Mexican?

I am a mega-BBQ fan, so I concur with your assessment of the NYC BBQ scene, and most of your comments, in general. I think I may be able to get in another dinner (early-side). So, I can probably do one BBQ & one Tex-Mex.

NYCer Needs Recs for Houston Dinner - BBQ vs Mexican?

Thanks for the all the information. I'll be staying at the St. Regis but attending a conference at the convention center. You're definitely right, we are missing Creole/Cajun cuisine up here in NYC, but I'd like to stick to either BBQ or I guess Tex-Mex? I'll definitely check out the information for Thelma's & Williams Smokehouse, but if you could provide a couple of recs for the Tex-Mex, that'd be great. I obviously have a car, so I'm willing to drive a bit.

Thanks, again.

NYCer Needs Recs for Houston Dinner - BBQ vs Mexican?

I will be in Houston at the end of this week and need recommendations for dinner. I'm a huge BBQ fan and I love Mexican food. Any suggestions for either/both would be appreciated. Also, if you only had one dinner in Houston, would you go BBQ or Mexican or something completely different?? In terms of cost, I'm willing to go moderate-high and lower. I'm just looking for the best food!

Thanks!

Going upstate!

Do NOT go to Terrapin! We were in Rhinebeck this past weekend and another couple staying at the inn had a terrible dinner there. Other posts have indicated that it's been going down hill. I can, though, highly recommend Calico. It was fantastic! Great food, service, and overall wonderful experience.

Private alcove or room for 10

I know it's not in the neighborhood you're looking for, but Crispo has an alcove. I think it seats somewhere between 8 and 10 people. The food is excellent, they have a decent wine list, and if you check out other posts on Chowhound, you'll see that it's a clear favorite amongst posters. Hope this helps!

anyone tried the big pig gig at daisy may's yet?

I'd like to do this for my boyfriend's 30th Birthday because I know he and his friends would love it. How far in advance can you book the place? If anyone has done this for a birthday, do you know if they let you bring a birthday cake? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Where can I find Frogurt (plain, like they sell in Bloomingdale's in the city) in NJ? r/o

I love the flavor! I like Pinkberry and their toppings, but I think Frogurt might actually be a little better. I've been searching for the Frogurt company website, but haven't had any luck.

I'm looking for Frogurt or a frozen yogurt in NJ that tastes like plain Frogurt. Anyone have any ideas?

Suggestions Needed: Birthday for 2 this weekend (read on for details)

My boyfriend and I are celebrating my birthday this weekend, and it's partially my choice. (I'm giving him a short list and he's going to surprise me by picking one from the list) Unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure where I'd like to go. I'm looking for:

- Possibly Romantic/Intimate (but not way over the top romantic) -- I'd prefer it NOT be a loud, bustling restaurant (although I know that could unavoidable)

- Midtown & below (however I do prefer downtown)

- Moderate to Moderate-Expensive

- No Japanese, Chinese, or Mexican

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!
