Best Pho in Edmonton?
Last time ( the only time) I was at king noodle house I walked out. Questionable hygiene doesn't begin to describe it. It smelled like it had never been cleaned in its history, and dirt and food that had been spilled on the walls and floor never cleaned up. Just ground in. The tables were dirty. Drips of sauce and who knows what on the walls around the tables. Maybe their soup is fabulous but I can't get past the rotten smell.
Would how the item is written on the menu make a difference to you?
in other words, the wording makes us expect a higher price, although we know its a ripoff, we are forwarned before the bill comes so we won't start cursing when we see the total...it doesn't make the dish worth more money, we can probably get the exact same dish, probably better, for half the price at the mom and pop restaurant down the street. AND we'd be repeat customers... im sorry if you charge me $46 for an $18 meal i probably won;t come back, unless its a truly amazing dining experience
Would how the item is written on the menu make a difference to you?
the problem i have with being so specific and going into long descriptions (besides sounding overly pretentious) is that so many times i've ordered something and when it comes the ingredients they specified have been substituted... you know what i mean?
Foods you eat strangely
with twix you have to carefully eat the cracker and then the chocolate and then its just the gooey caramel you can slowly let melt in your mouth... messy business tho
Things I haven't tried and need questions answered about
Hummus
Tahini (not sure what that is)
Artichokes
Hearts of palm (what are those anyways?)
foi gras
probably a few others i might add as i go along.
Basicly i would like it if someone could tell me what these things taste like, what they are, and how you use them....
Looking for a white chocolate recipe
i Made a Cake just now, its still in the oven. a Devils food cake with white chocolate flakes. i need a recipe for the frosting, hopefully using white chocolate. Maybe a buttercream? i don't want it to end up too sweet as the cake will be dense and gooey.
Doctoring up a cake mix
What about a recipe using the kirsch? maybe a cherry chocolate cake? or cherry vanilla?
What's for supper tonight?
Chili... and something else i'll figure out in a second or two.
Doctoring up a cake mix

HELP! too much cumin in my chili!
i don't have masa, and its not the heat thats the problem, more the flavor. the Cumin is a bit strong.
Chili Ideas

What is the most useless thing in your kitchen you won't get rid of?
yeahh egg cookers. not sure what the point is , but i got two free inside my microwave when i got it..
and i used my deep fryer once and i am to scared to try again (not that anything went wrong the first time except that my recipe sucked and the stuff was gross)
What is the most useless thing in your kitchen you won't get rid of?
i think ours was just old and decrepit and foul tempered. EVIL MACHINE !!!!!!
What would you do with these cute little guys?
mm, pumpkin pie and gingerbread go together quite well. i'm thinking maybe a pumpkin cheesecake, or maybe a spice cake or carrot cake with cream cheese icing and sprinkles..
Your own 30-minute meals?
i used to make stir fry too, but my DH hates it so no more...unless i'm alone. :(
Your own 30-minute meals?
i like to make a spinach pasta dish.
Saute chopped onion and garlic in some olive oil until golden, then add either a package of frozen spinach, thawed, (which i always seem to have on hand)or fresh spinach (not sure about the amount, probably about a pound) lots and lots of basil, and parsley, and S&P to taste. Cook some linguine (i use fresh from the store) and toss with the spinach and top with cheese. it actually only takes about 15 minutes to make, leaving you plenty of time to toss a salad or whatever else you're having with your meal.
HELP! too much cumin in my chili!
I had a little accident, and now have way to much cumin in my chili. Not a horrible thing, except i only like cumin in moderation.
How can i tone this down a bit?
Chili Ideas
well, now that you ask, you probably don't want to use a lot of chocolate, just a touch adds a depth of flavor. you don't want people to take a bite and go "wow, chocolate!" and i don't remember when mom added it to the chili. i don't make chili too often either. i would think not right at the beginning, but maybe about halfway through.
Usually i go the coffee route. about a 1/2 a cup of strong coffee in the simmering stage... or more or less to your tastes.
Actually i shouldn't say i never make chili, this thread inspired me and i'm whipping up a pot right now
Doctoring up a cake mix
hmm, no cream cheese but i do have chocolate and butterscotch puddings! maybe i will do that with one of them.
Any ideas for the devils food? i like devils food. i LOVE devils food.
Chili Ideas
the secret ingredient in my family has always been chocolate or coffee in the chili, it adds a hint of flavor thats really hard to define. but its really good
Doctoring up a cake mix
I know, I know, i should make it from scratch, but i don't have the time or the energy (or the ingredients)
So I have in my pantry some cake mixes
1 devil's food cake mix
1 swiss chocolate mix
1 french vanilla mix
1 plain white cake mix
I also have some cherry liqueur, several boxes of unsweetened chocolate, Vanilla wafers, ladyfingers, oreo crumbs, chocolate hazelnut spread, a little bit of rum..a few other things i'm sure
Any ideas?
