family dinners we cook and eat together. My Dad's 75th birthday lunch at Commander's Palace (with 25 cent martinis). Our anniversary dinner at Chez Panisse. Gumbo, mirliton casserole and smoked turkey every Thanksgiving.
My current drink of choice:
Red wines - cab and syrah/shiraz from South America, Australia and California; good values from southern Rhone and Languedoc; a little Bordeaux. BARQ'S Root Beer when I'm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A highly hopped IPA from time to time.
I really wish I could:
find a knife that fits my big hand and use it properly, and hide it from my family so they'd never (mis)use it. I feel so selfish having said that, but one of my first jobs was in a butcher shop, and the butchers guarded their knives more closely than their wives.

Fried chicken. Yes I am a southern gentleman

The New Orleans Cookbook, Rima & Richard Collin, 1975; Antoine's Cookbook; Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook was falling apart so bought a new edition not so much for recipes but good practical basic info and techniques
