TG Dinner--What kind of salad?

I again this year will make my baby green salad with orange walnut dressing, topped with chpped walnuts, and feta cheese crumbles. Its a hit with everyone. Another suggestion is Jamie's cranberry spinach salad from allrecipes.com, it is absolutely wonderful.

hamburger mary's

I've been to a few Hamburger Mary's in Calif and one in Vegas. Great burgers. Don't remember the bars ever being anything fancy or crowded. And, if I remember correctly Saturdays nights are the drag queen shows.

How to Make a Perfect Omelet - So Easy

both of my teenage sons, after years of trying cannot turn over the omelette. What they have figured out on their own is to heat two pans (usually one is already dirty with the bacon grease or sausage that they cooked to go in their omelette). After heating the buttered omelette pan and pouring the eggs in they crank the heat on the bacon pan and when its almost smokin they put it on top of the omelette pan and turn the burners off. The omelette cooks from both sides this way, in a couple minutes they open the lid, top with cheese and toppings and fold the omelette in half. This seems to work for them.

Anyone have a clue about Al Pastor?

thanks for the web site E.M. I'm sure my husband thought it was just some slab of meat that I could marinate and grill on the barbeque. I will show him the pics when he gets home and i am sure he will be coming up with a new menu.

communal dining experience?

We call it basque food here in Calif. Lunch is served at one seating, dinner at two. They seat you by groups at big long tables and than the food begins, salads, breads, soups, sides and usually 2 main dishes, and always pickled tongue. The food changes every night. All the food is served family style, (all the food is set in the middle of the table) and all the wine you can drink is included in your bill and right on the table for you. Everyone is real friendly and by the end of dinner you feel as if you've made a couple new frieds

Anyone have a clue about Al Pastor?

We are hosting monday night football next week and my husband wants me to make Al Pastor taco's like the ones he enjoys off the lunch wagon at work. I don' even know what kind of meat that is... Anyone out there have any ideas on how to make it?

I would appreciate it.

New to brie [moved from Home Cooking]

I went to a party a while back where the host served a brie wrapped in puff pastry, with chopped apple that had baked over it and drizzed with carmel. It was wonderful!

Chicken Fried Steak - Closet eater

the best chicken fried steak i have ever had was from Buck Owens Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, CA. Bring a friend, the steak covers the whole plate and is definately enough for two.

It's Sunday.....SO MUCH in the mood for a day of cooking while it rains

sorry, realized the recipe came from recipezaar instead of allrecipes.

Addictive Mexican Stew
1 cup diced onions

1 8 3/4 oz can corn
1 4 oz can diced green chilies

1/2 T cornstarch
1/2 cup water
salt, pepper, cilantro

cook onion and garlic in oil in large saucepan until tender.
add cooked chicken, taco seasoning, toatoes, beans, corn, water, and chilies. Blend broth and cornstarch, add to pan.
bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 min. top with grated jack cheese.

New Day After Thanksgiving Recipes

when thanksgiving dinner is over we take all the leftovers (except some of the turkey, which we need for sandwiches) and dump it all in a pot. the stuffing, mashed potatoes, any veggies, the gravy, and all the bits and pieces of turkey still on the bird. In the next couple of days i make a turkey pot pie with it, just make my crust, add a can of stock and pour into the pie shell, top with additional crust and bake, easy and tastes wonderful.

Thanksgiving Appetizers

I am asked to bring my ham rolls to most family get togethers because I live the farthest away and can not bring a hot dish. I make two versions and my family loves them.

#1 mix cream cheese with diced black olives until creamy, spread onto rectangular sliced ham, lay a 1/2 inch dill pickle spear on the short end. Roll up. chill and slice.

#2 mix cream cheese with sundried tomatoes until creamy. spread onto ham slice all the way to the edges lay a green onion on the short end of the ham and roll up. chill and slice.

they are very pretty when they are sliced. I slice them approx. 3/4 inches long.

It's Sunday.....SO MUCH in the mood for a day of cooking while it rains

cold and cloudy here today. Have already decided to make one of our favorite cold day recipes of Addictive Mexican Stew from the allrecipes.com web site, served piping hot with melted cheese on top, that should hit the spot.

How do you organize magazine recipes?

I too had a huge stack of cut out recipes I had been saving for years. I could never find what i needed, so, I purchased a 3 inch binder and a box of plastic sleeves with the holes in them to fit in the book. Me and my daughters spent an entire afternoon organizing the recipes into catorgories and slipping them into the sleeves and than placing them in the book. I can't believe it took me so long to do this, now when I need a recipe I know just where to find it.

Do You Re-Use Pickle Juice or the Liquid from Canned Veg.?

I use sweet pickle juice the same way my mom did, to flavor my potato salad, macaroni salad, cole slaw and deviled eggs.
