Cevap in DC area?

Anyone know of any (preferably good, authentic) Cevap in the DC area?

For the uninitiated, it's ground meat and spices, formed into links, from the Balkans (esp Serbia/Bosnia). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%86evap%C4%8Di%C4%87i

Good place for a picnic in DC?

Pierce Mill Park off Beach Drive

Lawn in front of National Cathedral

West Front of Capitol

Bridal shower venue in Bethesda/Rockville

My wife will be holding a bridal shower for her friend in September and needs some help on a location. It will be a party of about 15. Looking for reasonably priced place in Bethesda or Rockville with a private room. Food can be anything--a tried-and-true venue is most important.

There was a post on MoCo locations with waffles before on this, but this bride does not have the same syrupy dietary requests. . .although you never know when Bridezilla could rear her head.

Solo Diner in DC, how's my list?

Here here to Palena bar. My first stop whenever the wife and kid are out of town. Order the 45 minute chicken and a sazerac.

Want to eat Rudolph

Yep, after seeing Zane Lamprey's "Have Fork Will Travel" episode in Oslo, Norway, I'm eager to try some reindeer.

Anyone know anyplace in the DC area that serves reindeer?

Rudolph with your meat so light, won't you line my plate tonight?

Indian cooking supplies?

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will head out to check out the VA spots sometime this month and report back. Postponed my Indian dinner due to kid's cold, so now have more time to compare and explore!

Indian cooking supplies?

Where is a good place around DC to get cooking supplies for Indian cooking? Thinking spices, paneer, gram flour, etc.

The closer to DC proper, the better.

And apologies if there was a post on this before, but I find the search engine to be virtually useless.

winter 2008 restaurant week -- DC

I second that. D'Acqua isn't worth the time or money for restaurant week, as they seem to exert minimal effort.

English breakfast

I get busy for a couple weeks and I miss a maelstrom. Thanks, everyone, for your posts. I had friends who visited the British Pantry a few weekends ago and immediately wrote me to say i *must* go (apparently i am not a quiet anglophile).

Will report back when I get there, which may have to wait until after the holidays. In the meantime, maybe one of the closer locations mentioned will tide me over.

Casual Sushi (on red line)

Spices in Cleveland Park always satisfies me and my wife on the sushi front, and as a "pan-asian" restaurant, it has other offerings as well, albeit not always tasty ones.

And if the sushi doesn't fill you up, hop a couple doors down to Vace and get one of the only good slices of pizza you'll find here in DC.

English breakfast

I've seen some posts on finding "Irish" or "English" breakfasts here in metro DC area, but none have seemed to quite describe what I remember from living there years ago: poached eggs or barely friend sunny side up eggs, sausage, fatty bacon, grilled tomatoes, beans, and here's the important part for me, mushrooms. I found this meal going through Heathrow recently and now I'm desperately seeking a breakfast Britannia.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Any British ex-pats here who can help me out? Any soccer (footie) fans who nosh on this fare around here? I'll even watch a half of soccer players flopping in fake agony for a foul if it means I can satisfy this craving.

Best Pizza in DC?

Vace in Cleveland Park. Thin, crunchy crust. Minimalist, but with quality cheese and ingredients (although I wish they used better mushrooms). And not greasy, spongy, or sweet like all the other horrid horrid pizza in this town.

Where are the Region's Best BBQ Ribs?

Agree--love Urban's ribs. The sauces could use some work, though.

Business dinners in Mpls/St. Paul

Thanks to you both> Have heard of WA Frost...has lots of stained glass and a patio out back, right? What do you know about the 128?
Not conducting business at the dinner but would like somewhere somewhat quiet so we can hear each other.

Business dinners in Mpls/St. Paul

Chowhounder from DC in Minneapolis for business, and needs a few suggestions (or links to good threads on this).

Criteria:
--Somewhat unique (but one diner may be a bit meat-and-potatoes, so if the place also has some standards, that's a plus)
--Not too pricey, but doesn't have to be cheap, either
--Staying in Mpls, but we work in neighborhood housing, so a local, neighborhoody place is perfect

Thanks!

Arancini ---is it on any Italian menus in the area?

Lia's in Friendship Heights has them, and does them rather well; Cleveland Park Bar and Grill (which, IMHO, has decent pizza as well) also makes them, although not excessively well.

Healthy in Silver Spring

Have to drop my mom's car off in her new neighborhood of Silver Spring tonight and I'd like to start testing out the restaurants. Wife says we're eating "healthy" tonight. She's also a vegetarian.

Anybody have a recommendation for something that fits this bill? Thanks.

Quality Delivery Pizza: The Impossible Dream?

i think you know what the silence means.

let's start one.

Week long vacation in DC...NEED HELP!!!

For darts and a great jukebox, and whatever you want to eat, go to Atomic Billiards in Cleveland Park. They don't serve food, which is really the best part, because they let you bring in whatever you want. They also have pool (obviously) and board games galore. As a date, my wife and I grab some great food and play a game of Monopoly with a couple PBRs here.

For food, Vace, an Italian deli down the street has fantastic pizza and cannolis they fill on the spot. You can also get Indian takeout from Indique and bring that in.

The hard part is finding Atomic, as it is underground. When you get off the metro, look for the SunTrust bank sign and it's a couple doors down that strip (you can also look for a sign that says CLUB SODA). Look for the folding chalkboard sign noting their specials.

If you want to sit down to eat beforehand, Palena is there and is fantastic. The front cafe is the better deal where you can get the best $10 cheeseburger in the world, and also order a la carte from the regular menu.

Quick quiche?

Thanks! Might have to make a BWI trip this weekend, so I'll make a detour.

First time in DC (well, since college)

Would look at:
2941 (in VA, but worth the trip)
Bebbo Trattoria (Roberto Donna's temporary place while Galileo is getting renovated)
Zola (a good place for intresting 'American' food)
Domku (for brunch--relaxed Scandinavian food. go after 11 so you can order from lunch menu as well)

If you give some more ideas on what you like, or where you'll be, can suggest more.

Quick quiche?

Went on a wild quiche chase today. I was looking for good quiche to go, relatively fresh, and with a few good choices (usually Lorraine will do, but mushrooms and spinach are also welcome).

I found nothing until I hit Bread and Chocolate in Eastern Market, and that was neither fresh nor brimming with choices.

Anybody out there have a place they grab a quick quiche now and then? Arlington-Bethesda range and in between.

Or just great quiche?

Thanks!
