Best Fajitas in DFW?
I am a fan of Joe T Garcias. They make killer chicken fajitas...beef are so so. The chicken ones are just so tender, moist and juicy (unusual for chicken fajitas anywhere else) and have a very slight hint of sweet (sort of caramelized) which makes them taste incredible. Fantastic margaritas, great guacamole too...tortillas are ok.
Best Chinese buffet in Dallas
I was looking for the board's opinions in what they consider the best chinese buffet(s) in DFW. Best = fresh, tasty food, variety.
I noticed threads for Houston and Austin on the same topic but not DFW :)
Thanks
DFW - Upscale Indian Restaurant
Upscale, Authentic, South Indian and a place with good vegeterian selection - well in DFW you are out of luck meeting all those criterion.
If you were to be more flexible on the "Upscale" part then another great option is Chettinaad Palace (75/Park Blvd) which has exceptional dosas and other south indian food. Went there for dinner on Father's Day - service is excellent and the food was even better.
BTW - We went to Iravat and I agree that the service and ambience is exceptional (probably the best I have seen in a Indian restaurant for a while) but sadly the food they serve is NOT the real, authentic Indian food. It is more of a Americanized, water-down and spiceless version of Indian food. We had tried their lunch buffet and almost every dish (Chicken tandoori, Palak Paneer, Butter Chicken, Lamb Curry) came across as extremely bland and tasteless. It might be a good introduction to Indian food but the real flavor of Indian food lies in it's use of spices.
A for the service and ambience but D- for the food.
beer-batter fish 'n chips in dallas ?
The fish and chips at Trinity Hall Irish Pub are awesome too...and the place feels much more like an authentic English/Irish pub. It's in the Mockingbird Station off 75.
Steakhouse in Irving open for lunch?
You can also try the Keg (http://en.kegsteakhouse.com/locations/Texas/Irving). It's a steakhous echain originated from Canada and the Canucks in my office absolutely love it.
I have been there several times for lunch - it's not a top-of-the-range steakhouse but I think it's much better than TLC or Saltgrass.
Cask Ales in DFW
I happened to stumble upon this rather interesting article in the NY Times about cask conditioned ales where they use natural carbonation techniques rather than the CO2 laden, mass market junk that's more commonly available.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/24/dining/24pour.html
I am wondering if there are any places in DFW that serve such beer and if you have been to any - I'd love to hear what are some good beers.
Thanks!
Fresh flat Thai noodles in Dallas?
Thanks for the tip cookingblue22. As far as the best Pad Kee Mow goes - my favorite which is also seconded by a colleague from Thailand, is Bangkok Orchid at Belt Line Rd and 183 in Irving. Try it :)
Fresh flat Thai noodles in Dallas?
I am in the mood to make some Pad Kee Mow at home and of course the main ingredient for that is flat rice noodles which supposedly are freshly made in stores (never sold packaged). If you want to see what I am talking about, then look below,
http://www.thaitable.com/Thai/Ingredients/fresh_flat_rice_noodles.htm
Unfortunately I cannot seem to locate a store nearby which makes/sells these. I have been to the Asian grocery megastore in Carrollton (Josey and Frankford Ln) but they didn't seem to have it and I encountered a slight communication barrier in trying to explain to them what I was looking for :)
Can someone recommend a store where you can buy these? Thanks.
Farmers Market in Plano, TX
The Sprouts Market on Legacy in Plano is excellent. The produce is pretty good and I like their pre-marinated meat kabobs. I think the only problem is that they still feel like a regular supermarket (Tom Thumb et al) rather than a country farmers market so I am sure the produce is definitely NOT as fresh as a conventional farmers market.
I was also reading about this place called Fairview Farms (http://www.fairview-farms.com/) but haven't had the chance to go there yet. Maybe you could visit the place and report back? :)
New Indian restaurant in Dallas
The name is Bukhara Grille (http://www.bukharagrille.com/). It's specialty is Indian food from the northwest region. We happened to be in the area and accidentally stumbled upon it and decided to go in for dinner.
To begin with - the decor is very much a mix of rustic Indian touches mixed with some contemprary art and is definitely much better that most Indian places. The service is extremely attentive and prompt - again better than any Indian place I have seen.
On to the food now : We decided to go with the owner's (who incidentally is also the cook) recommendation and ordered Mirch Murgh Masala (chicken in a spicy gravy), Dal Bhukara (black lentils in a creamy gravy) and Ustad Ki Dum Biryani (lamb biryani). Every dish was EXCEPTIONAL, especially the biryani which was cooked in a pot which was completely sealed with naan dough and opened at our table. The aroma was exquisite!!
We ordered one dessert but the owner very graciously also offered us their house specialty - sort of an Indian bread putting steeped in saffron flavor and garnished with nuts...again fantastic. Oh yes...their other house specialty not to be missed is anything from the Tandoor (kebabs) but we were too stuffed to try any this time.
In talking to the owner, the place just opened a couple weeks ago and the word is still getting out. The owner himself was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They still have to get their Guidelive review but I personally have no hesitation recommending them as the #1 Indian restaurant in DFW. If you are in the Richardson/Plano area I would definitely recommend checking out the place.
Happy chow-ing :)
Good places around DFW airport
North Main BBQ is excellent but it's open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Kona coffee beans in Dallas?
Good day Chowhounds! - Any recommendations on some good places to purchase Kona coffee in the metroplex? I was going to Central Market today so I will be looking there but any other ideas are most welcome. Thank you.
Need Recomendations near Grapevine (Dallas)
http://www.jrssteaks.com/
This is a new place that just opened...about a 5 minute drive from Grapevine. Never been there but I drive by daily and always see a crowd in the evenings...looks like an ideal place for a high-end dinner.
Dallul East African (DFW)
One more Ethiopian restaurant I have been to and highly recommend is Queen of Sheba in Addison. Very good food and the decor is excellent.

Five Nights in Dallas, please help make it delicious
I see that you have already gotten recommendations for most of the good places near where you stay. Now if you feel like trying some healthy, innovative veggie food then try Cosmic Cafe (http://www.cosmiccafedallas.com/)
I went there once and the place offers an escape into the existential. The food was absolutely delicious (although someone got overly creative with the names...Cosmic Stir, Portabella trance etc). I would particularly recommend the Mango Lassie.
Chicago style hot dogs...ingredients in Dallas?
We had a chance to go to Weinberger's this weekend and it was excellent! Thank you so much for the tip. I'll also check out Harrys soon.
Chicago style hot dogs...ingredients in Dallas?
We used to live in Chicago for many years before moving to Dallas and my wife (who's incidentally expecting our first child soon) has the craving for a Chicago style hot dog.
I am looking for some assistance in tracking down where I could buy some of the below ingredients,
- Sweet pickle relish
- Sport peppers
- Poppy seed buns
Any advice would rock. Thanks!
Bakeries in Dallas
Try Hot Breads (www.hotbreads.com). They are an Indian bakery chain with 70+ locations worldwide. They have one in Las Colinas and another one in Richardson. I found that they use French baking techniques - so their cakes are absolutely light, soft and fluffy. My favorite is the pineapple and the black forest.
They have a lot of other savory pastries which we thought were pretty good too. The place however is too small to eat-in so plan on taking your food to-go.
Fort Worth Must Eats
Joe T. Garcia's on Commerce St. - if not for the food but at least for the atmosphere. The poolside garden seating is definitely an experience not to be missed. As far as the food goes - it's just average Tex-Mex stuff (remember that dinner menu is just cheese enchiladas and chicken/beef fajitas). They do make a mean margarita though :)
Take cash...no plastic accepted.
DFW: Best pre-marinated fajita meat?
One place I know that's got great meat is La Michoacana. Are there any other recommendations, preferably in the Plano/Carrollton/Lewisville area?
In need of lots of Spring Rolls in Dallas
I second the above recommendation - skip the bland spring rolls at Costco and head to an Asian grocery store. They usually have a full aisle of spring/egg rolls and potstickers. You will probably find every flavor under the sun there.
Malaysian/Singaporean food Dallas
Is Lion City Cafe still open? I have been trying to the phone number just now (Sunday afternoon) and no answer. I am really craving Malaysian but would hate to drive all the way down to Plano and see it closed.
Is Ali Baba still great in Dallas?
Ali Baba has opened another location - this one's in Irving (MacArthur and 114. Same complex as Champs/Bahama Breeze). We went to try their lunch buffet - the food was reasonable (needless to say dishes sitting in buffet trays for a while cannot really match up to a-la-carte).
Dal: Afrah Pastries is good...
Try the Turkish Coffee at Afrah. It's this miniature size cup of coffee with a strong hint of cardamom. You won't be disappointed !
best hot sauce in D/FW
Like a previous poster on this thread mentioned....try the place on Harry Hines and Lombardy Ln. Its called El Paisanos. Their hot sauce is really hot and really addictive!! Can't stop eating it and following it up with ice cold water :)
Rafain Brazilian Steakhouse
We went to Rafain earlier this week for lunch. The bill per person (including tax and a normal tip), no dessert/no soda is ~21 dollars. I had been to Boi Na Braza once and the difference during lunch is that Boi Na Braza (and probably Fogo) have a few more types of meat and a little bigger salad bar.
Thai and Vietnamese in Irving
I think the best Thai food hands down in Irving would be Bangkok Orchid. It's across from the Irving Mall (183 and Belt Line). They are a small place and it gets pretty busy during lunch but they supposedly have the best Thai food in the area (as per a couple of my colleagues who are Thai). I go there at least once a week and have never been disappointed.
Taquerias in the Irving area?
Thanks so much for the fantastic recommendation!! We went there yesterday and were just blown away by the chicken.....incredibly good!!
Best Unique Food Shops in DFW
Try Al-Markaz...its a Pakistani grocery store and restaurant.
Indian in Dallas?
Having been to almost every Indo-Pak restaurant in DFW in the past 10 years I can tell you that Pasand is near the top of the list (if not the top!). Their food is pretty close to authentic and the service is great too.
I have been to India Palace and came back unimpressed...the food is not the greatest and it's overpriced. Skip it.
The chat corner at Taj Imports groceries is excellent...if you don't know what to order here are a couple of items I highly recommend - Bhel Puri (a mix of a lot of savories, veggies and sweet/hot sauces) and Samosa Chat (Samosa garnished with chickpea curry, yoghurt and sauces)...you won't go wrong with either.
If you want absolutely authentic south Indian food - try Madras Pavilion (Belt Line and Coit Rd in Richardson, next to Whole Foods). You cannot get south Indian food better than that anywhere in DFW or for that matter Texas. They are certified Kosher too :)
Another place is Bombay Chinese (same complex as Udipi Cafe and Taj Imports in Richardson)...they cook Chinese dishes with a mix of indo-Chinese spices. It's a concept that's wildly popular in India. Try it out if you like hot and spicy food.
