Please recommend a restaurant that serves breakfast all day

Forgive me, I'm 6 months pregnant and must have pancakes for dinner tonight. I'm looking for a restaurant that serves breakfast all day - with fabulous pancakes of course. Preferably around mid-city to west LA.

Places for an early weekday lunch between the Westside & Universal Studios?

Can somebody recommend a good, inexpensive place to grab a bite to eat before heading off to Universal Studios for the day? We'll be coming from the Westside, so any place that is along the way would be great, closer to Universal would be preferable. Any cuisine except sushi is welcome, but nothing too heavy since we'll be in the park all day.

Thanks in advance!

where can i get a good bánh mì on the westside?

$1.50 sub is no more? Say it ain't so! Since when? That place got me through many a lean time as a starving Bruin.

Can anybody help me recreate the brussels sprouts from Pizzeria Mozza?

They were served chilled, with a vinegary dressing (not balsamic) and dusted with what is described as prosciutto breadcrumbs. So delicious!

Please recommend a good dry white wine to cook with

The ones I've used before are ones that I received as gifts and unfortunately, my supply has run out. I would prefer one that is not too expensive and can be found either at Trader Joe's or a regular grocery store. I know that you should always use a good quality one that you would also drink on its own, but I don't really drink wine at all so obviously it's hard for me to pick one out using this as a gauge.

Please post your favorite chili recipe

oh lord, how search impaired am I? thanks paulj!

Please post your favorite chili recipe

Was there a "best chili" thread? I tried my hand at searching, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for all the recipes so far!

Easy but different salad ingredients?

I sometimes add blanched broccoli and haricoverts to my salads.

Please post your favorite chili recipe

I'm hosting a small, informal get together and would love to make a big ol' pot of delicious chili, along with some cornbread of course! Problem is, I've never really made the kind of chili I'm imagining - with big hunks of beef, beans and tomatoes. Any fool proof recipes?

Approximate price per person for dinner at the London?

Without doing the tasting menu, including tax and tip, but not alcohol.

Making enchiladas

Do you think it's necessary to soft fry the tortillas? I used to do this, but in an attempt to eat somewhat healthier I now heat the tortillas in the microwave instead. And I don't know if it's just because I know I've switched things up, but my enchiladas just don't seem to be quite as tasty anymore. My husband says he can't tell the difference.

The Boiling Crab vs. BoatHouse?

Both were recommended by (different) coworkers, both are in Alhambra... which one is better?

Help me find a restaurant that meets this (random) criteria

This is for a friend's birthday lunch.

First and foremost, the restaurant MUST have strawberry lemonade. The kind with made with actual strawberries slices in the drink, not the kind only made with syrup. My friend (who moved here from France a few years ago) just recently had strawberry lemonade for the first time in her life at some random restaurant out of state and is OBSESSED with it... Finding a restaurant that serves this type of lemonade would be a present to her in of itself.

Not too pricey - maybe around $15 an entree. Again, this is for a birthday lunch, so a place that has a reasonably nice atmoshpere would be great.

The restaurant must be within reasonable driving distance from Boyle Heights - e.g. Pasadena, Alhambra, downtown LA, Silver Lake, etc.

Any suggestions?

Delicious lunch for take out - anywhere from Culver City to mid city.

I need to find a place that has delicious eats available for lunch take out on Saturdays. A friend of mine is doing me a favor and sacrificing his lunch hour, so I wanted to take something with me that he would be able to eat with relative ease without having to reheat, since he might not be able to eat it right away. Last time he did me this same favor on his lunch hour I brought him the flank steak salad from Tender Greens and he seemed to really enjoy it, but I'd rather bring him something new.

Any suggestions? He's not too picky when it comes to cuisine type but he does eat Chinese and Thai fairly often at work so I'd rather stay away from those.

Quick - how should I reheat turkey pot pie?

I made a tasty pot pie w/ turkey leftovers, and now I have leftovers of said pot pie that I want to heat up for dinner tonight. What's the best way to go about this short of the microwave? Covered in foil in the oven? What temp?

Am I the only one who lives in a magic house? A lighthearted look at ourselves & food safety

"Definitely. I live in a cold weather climate, and as far as I am concerned, when it is cold outside, the world is your fridge/freezer."

Not just in Winnipeg, my Korean mom leaves out soups, stews, etc. overnight all the time and we live in Los Angeles.

What to do with fuyu persimmons?

Grandparents brought me over a bunch of persimmons from their tree, bleh.... As you might have guessed, I'm not a big fan, neither is my husband. But that doesn't matter to my grandparents, every year, undaunted by our protests, they give us a huge bag that usually goes to waste.

So this year, I've decided to make a conscious effort to utilize them. Any suggestions? I've looked up cake and cookie recipes, but it seems like most of them call for the hachiya variety and at most use only 2 persimmons. I have at least a couple dozen at my disposal.

Pat on the back for a Thanksgiving Well Done

Hear, hear!

My turkey's missing its giblets!

I found the giblets... they were indeed hiding out in the neck cavity. Just glad I found them before tossing the bird in the oven!

Does this sound like it would be good...

Or a little drizzle of honey on top would look really nice too.

Anyone starting to cook Thanksgiving Dinner as late as we are? (Wed. night)

Also starting tonight. Yesterday's post about how much people had already prepared by Tuesday made me reeeallllly nervous. But I always start on Wed night because I have limited fridge space.

So far tonight I've made the cranberry sauce, prepped the salad, turkey stock and dried cubes of bread for stuffing. Oh, and I've washed all the serving platters and bowls that I'll be using tomorrow. All the serving platters and bowls are currently sitting out on my dining table, which obviously is not set for dinner, because I also have limited counter space.

My turkey's missing its giblets!

Ah, the neck cavity! I didn't want to unwrap the whole turkey so I didn't check on that end. Perhaps I'll find the missing giblets tomorrow morning.

Does this sound like it would be good...

Sounds delicious! I just had a white pizza at a restaurant with very similar ingredients. The pizza had mozzarella, gorgonzola, pear, walnuts, honey, and speck (smoked proscuitto).

My turkey's missing its giblets!

I'm making my turkey stock tonight and went to pull the neck and giblets from my turkey. I was up to my elbow in the turkey, but no giblets to be found. Aside from being bummed that I won't be able to utilize the giblets, I'm worried that they're hiding somewhere deep within the turkey and I'll only find out when the sucker's roasting tomorrow.

Please reassure me that this has happened to someone else and I'm not giblet-excavating challenged.

Terroni - how's the atmosphere there?

Scary... I was there on Saturday and also had the C't Mang pizza!! And it *was* delicious!!

How can I tell if my turkey is defrosted completely?

This is my first year using a frozen turkey... poor planning on my part, didn't order one in advance and got stuck. So I have it in the fridge defrosting as I type, and by all estimates it should be defrosted by Thursday morning. But what's the best way to tell that it is completely defrosted? I'm just afraid that even though it will "feel" defrosted, it may be frozen in areas that I won't be able to discern.

Packaging cookies

I once got cookies packaged in a large mason jar tied with a holiday plaid ribbon and thought that it was a really cute idea.

Terroni - how's the atmosphere there?

In comparison to Osteria Mozza, would you say it's much more casual?

Side dish for Beef Curry

Assuming you're already serving with rice, I usually serve fukujin-zuke (Japanese red pickled radish) with curry.

Lucques, Craft or Grace for my Sunday birthday dinner for 6?

I also recommend Craft, especially since (as a_and_w mentioned) the food is meant to be shared family style. The food there is excellent and it would be a great opportunity to try out many different items on the menu.
