Wedding venue for intimate Friday night wedding/cocktail reception

I definitely suggest Pallucci restaurant on Mount Pleasant (at Davisville). They will accommodate regardless of your price range and the atmosphere is cool and contemporary.

Burrito Boyz or Chipotle?

Chipotle, Chipotle, Chipotle. Chain be damned.

Best breakfast in Ottawa south?

I haven't lived in the area for years but the Swan on the Rideau always had a decent breakfast. It's between Osgoode and Kars. I'm sure they have coffee but what I remember most is the Guiness (not for breakfast, of course...).

Patio dinner Tonight!...

I need help finding a restaurant (ideally in the Annex/College area) with a patio for tonight. I'm looking for ambiance without it being overly shlocky or romantic. I'm entertaining a guest from Germany who doesn't often get the chance eat adventurously; that said, we're not limited as I am willing to help him open his eyes to new styles of cuisine. Price range is negligible; however, I don't, don't, don't want the evening to feel stuffy! Something comfortable and laid back, medium price range...y'know. Thanks!

Ottawa recs...eating out with picky friend

Awww...I was just talking about The Works tonight! It is one must-go place when I go home. Another have-to is Pancho Villa (I used to live in 'Melrose Place' so it's a nostalgic visit), although I really truly, truly love it there during the summer on that awesome patio. What about Fratelli? I'd only recommend the Glebe location though.

Vegan Restaurants

I had my vegan best friend & SE boyfriend in town a couple of months ago. We went to Fressen (Queen W). Even I, an adventurous carnivore, enjoyed the meal (paired with their fabulous raspberry lemonade). Keep in mind, though, the whole menu is vegan! The next day, we were enjoying a tourist-y day and ended up at Everest (across the street from Much). Their menu is a mix of meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. I stuck to the vegan side of things and was very pleasantly surprised by their chana masala! Nicely spiced, generously portioned and super-cheap relative to dntn Toronto prices. I find that there are quite a few restos in your required area that now offer vegan options...Happy eating!

Local 'hound favorites in downtown Ottawa?

Ahhh...I'm an ex-Ottawan as well who (in my broke student days) lived across the street from the Manx. My best friend, boyfriend and I would save our pennies for lazy Sunday mornings at the Manx. We knew well enough to set aside *easily* an hour and a half for b.fast (things happen slowly around there!). Love it--my dad and I go for food in the winter when I come home! Summer on the other hand...that Mexican place across the street (Pancho Villa) is HANDS DOWN the best patio in the province (yup, bold statement!)--a canopy of trees, ample space and the perfect people-watching spot. I'm always confident that the food will be solid, unlike *sniff* anywhere in The Big Smoke...Oh! I miss it now!!!

Fun MONDAY night...Is it possible?

So my aunt is in town for one night only--of course, it would be a Monday night! We're going to have dinner, only where?! Last year, we ate at Southern Accents and enjoyed the kisch of their in-house psychic. Are there any cheeky restaurants out there with ambience and good food that are actually open on Mondays? We're not picky eaters and cost is not an issue. She's staying at a hotel on Front Street and I'm relatively downtown. We'll probably cab it so any suggestions are welcomed! I'd really appreciate some chow help on this one.

Ottawa Fine Dining

Where did Stephen Vardy go? Did Ottawa become too small for him?

Cadillac lounge?

Hey! For the Red Lion, I'd suggest their indonesian chicken wrap--nicely curried. My BF loves their chili nachos. We often go when his dad's in town and order a slew of apps: Calamari-lightly breaded; veg quesadillas- choc full of lettuce, sour cream, etc; tri-coloured nachos- large size is perfect to share! I usually get a side salad with my wrap...The greek salad is large and always fresh! Plus, when the weather permits (unfortunately, it'll be a while!), they have a large, tree-shaded patio. Ahhh...

Enjoy the pub grub!

Cadillac lounge?

Okay, because the discussion has fallen on pub food, I must weigh in. I've been living in TO for over a year now and I have yet to find a pub that remotely resembles ANY respectable Ottawa establishment *Gasp*! I know--I find it hard to even make that statement, but really and truly, Ottawa destroys both Toronto's pub and patio scenes. Sigh. However, if you are interested in the over all pub experience (old wood smelling like a church with inlaid stained glass details, relaxed and friendly denim-clad servers and heaps of comforting food), I must must must suggest The Red Lion on Jarvis (just south of Wellesley). I love feeling welcomed and this place really does it for me!

Best Roti Chanai in Toronto

There's a Sunrise that opened on Yonge just south of Wellesley. From my understanding, it's a chain so they probably have a website. Yummy!

LIttle Italy Ottawa

Hey...normally I wouldn't 'out' a restaurant that I've worked at; HOWEVER, it must be said that I always discourage people from eating at Trattoria Caffe Italia simply because of the way they treat their staff. Incidents include swearing at servers, taking tip money and over all verbal abuse. I've been in the industry long enough to know that, for the most part, these things can be the 'norm' (unfortunately), but these brothers take it to the extreme! If you do eat there, please remember to treat the service staff well because they put up with a lot more than they should have to!

Birthday Dinner - Midtown Toronto

Weird...this is the second time I've mentioned Pallucci in probably as many days. Chill decor, well-priced and delicious food. Mount Pleasant and Davisville--I think the website was pallucci.ca (?). Decent for Midtown.

Ottawa - best burger?

How is Social not overpriced?! The Works by far has the best selection and quality of burgers in the city! I do love the tiger shrimp and sun-dried combo!!!

Special 50th Birthday Dinner - need ideas!

I would suggest Pallucci restaurant on Mount Pleasant--not quite downtown. Mount Pleasant and Davisville area. They offer pre-fixe menus starting at $35 per person including hors d'oeuvres! Depending on the number of people, they have a private dining room upstairs with a fireplace, TV, etc. I think for anything over 30ppl, they'll close the main floor for you. I ate there once and the food was great, the service was great--surprising in that neighbourhood!! Check out their website: pallucci.ca

Hope that helps!

Byward Market Cheapeats?

It's too bad the weather isn't patio-friendly; however, if you're into Mexican definitely try Pancho Villa on Elgin Street. Fabulous food-great service! If you'd rather eat directly in the market,I used to frequent Patty Bowland's as a starving University/College student. Awesome soups and artichoke dip! These two places are group-friendly, although because The Panch's patio isn't open, you may prefer Patty Bowland's for the ambience--fireplaces, live music upstairs etc...

Have fun!
