Delicious on the Slope

Did this place close? We just moved down the street and haven't had a chance to try it yet. It's had brown paper on the windows for over a week now.

Picnic stuff in North or Central Park Slope?

I can confirm that the adobo chicken is very good.

Ballfields vs Fort Greene Flea Market

We were at the Brooklyn Flea this weekend and had the same experience. The same food that they have in Redhook: great huarache's with all of the regular toppings. There was a line, but it wasn't bad at all. This, in my opinion, is a much better way to do it.

Picnic stuff in North or Central Park Slope?

I always like going to:
Russo's Mozzarella and Pasta
363 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215, USA - Park Slope
(718) 369-2874 Mon-Sat 9:30-8, Sun 9:30-7

It's an Italian Grocery store and they make great sandwiches, rotisserie chickens, and have sides. We usually go there before concerts in the park

If you want to get out of the 15th St. F, you can go over to Terrace Bagels. They have great sandwiches as well, though the store experience can be a pain the you know what.

Park Slope cheap eats near 5th and Union?

We just moved from Carroll Gardens to Park Slope. Though we are somewhat familiar with the area (I used to live in South Slope), we don't know it inside out.

Right now, we are on a quest for the cheap ($30 and under for 2), easy, and relatively healthy dinner on a weeknight. We know about Hunan Delight and Aunt Suzie's. Any other suggestions?

Sat. night pizza for a group? Lombardi's?

We ended up going to Lombardi's with a group of 9 on saturday and I wanted to report on our experience. We got there at 6:00 and were told that the wait would be around one hour and fifteen minutes. Lombardi's will not take your phone number and call you, which is a little bit ridiculous as there isn't much room to wait in the bar and waiting on the street out front creates a bit of a hazard. Nevertheless, we worked our way into the corner of the bar, got drinks, and the wait wasn't that bad. They had Six Point on draft (among others) and the wine wasn't bad either. The ended up seating us after about an hour in a dining room upstairs. When you are waiting on the main level, it looks like there is only that one dining room, but as we walked back we could see that there were at least two others including the one where we were seated. We ordered four different pizzas and our group was split about what they liked best. It's a good sign and shows that nothing we ordered was a total dog of a pizza. Here's a quick rundown:

Meatball and red peppers: delicious, though I agree with some other posters that there could have been more meatballs. But the meatballs themsevles were the perfect size and well flavored:

Pancetta and wild mushroom: my favorite, great earthy mushroom.

Plain: This highlighted the tomato sauce that they use which was excellent.

Clam: Now, I did not think I'd like this, but it seemed like the thing to get. Really quite good. No sauce or cheese, just clams, some butter/oil, and crust. The simplicity and freshness made it.

Overall: the most important thing to me is the crust and Lombardi's did a great job with that. Very chewy and slightly crispy (we asked for them to be cooked well done) and flavorful. People were right in that it is a big tourist place, but since we were expecting that, we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very nice and patient and the food was served promptly and it was well prepared. Overall, I give it a high score. It wasn't a small craft pizza like Lucali's or a smaller place, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good. I'm not sure that I'd brave the crowds every weekend (getting there at 6:00 hurt) but again, we knew what we were getting into, so it wasn't so bad. Everyone in our group had a great time and if it wasn't a pain getting in, we'd return in a second.

Sat. night pizza for a group? Lombardi's?

You mean Lombardi's? I think we might try it but go at 6:00. We're trying to hit all the talked about pizza joints... for better or worse... and we just want to see for ourselves what it's like.

Sat. night pizza for a group? Lombardi's?

Think we'll have a better chance of getting a table at Arturo's? Or at least all getting in at the same time?

Sat. night pizza for a group? Lombardi's?

I have a group of about 10 people and we want to go out for good sit down pizza in manhattan on saturday night (before a concert that starts at midnight). Any recs on where to go and when to get there? We were thinking Lombardi's but it sounds like it will be a zoo. We don't mind waiting for an hour but more than that may be too much.
Any help would be appreciated.

szechuan garden on smith st.

Maybe it's worth another try... the meal we had was pretty bad, though.

We will definitely give Hunan delight a shot.

szechuan garden on smith st.

We are still reeling from the Red Hot closure and ordered from the new Szechuan Garden last night. It gets an F from us as in barely edible. The Hot and Sour soup was thin and not spicy or flavorful, the steamed veggie dumplings were gummy with way more dough than filling, and the steamed chicken and veggies was rife with inedible chicken bits. The brown rice was even a little weird. The cashew chicken was not so bad... the one saving grace. We will not be ordering from there again... but where else can we get chinese in carroll gardens?

Breakfast tacos on Airport? Still open?

Hi, when I was at UT 91-95, there was a breakfast taco place on Airport called something like Taco # 8 (I'm not sure of the number). Does anyone know if this is still open or what it is called now? My wife and I are headed to Austin next weekend and I'd like to check it out if it's still open.

A good Indian restaurant in Brooklyn?

We ordered from Bombay Dreams on Smith St. last night. Okay food... I had intestinal distress from it all night-- not good. The somosas were very good but the chicken in the dishes was of questionable quality.

Healthy Smith/Court st. takeout?

We're gonna get some takeout tonight before hitting a movie on Court St. Any recs? I feel like we're in a rut going to the same places (we live in carroll gardens) and just want to blindly ask what people would rec. that is healthy in the Smith/Court St. area. Thanks!

What is open over Mardi Gras weekend?

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I've been to a lot of these places. We were hoping to keep it uptown just to make transportation easier. I think I'm going to try for Dante's. The path of least resistance is probably the way to go here, though Mosca's sounds like a great option as well.

What is open over Mardi Gras weekend?

Hi, I'm from NOLA but now live in NYC and I'm going to be having my bachelor party over Mardi Gras. We've been working out a lot of plans, but we're still looking for a restaurant (preferrably uptown due to large group vs. parade travel issues) for dinner for saturday night. We're looking for something New Orleansey that can accomodate us. Ideally we would be looking for a Dick and Jenny's type place-- but that's closed. I realize it may be slim pickings ( and I know it is from the calls I've already made). Any suggestions for dinner for about 12? THanks!

Lundi Gras bachelor party dinner for 12?

Can anyone suggest a good place uptown for a bachelor party dinner early on lundi gras (monday before mardi gras)? We're looking for something semi-nice. We wanted to go to Dick and Jenny's but they are both not open for lundi gras and don't take reservations, which I'd like to do since our group will be so large.

I should clarify a bit and say that I am from NOLA, but currently reside in NYC. The guests will be coming from all over. We were hoping to make it uptown to avoid travelling much as we will be staying uptown at various family members houses and we will be spending the evening at Tips.

Spanish restaurant on Columbia St. near Alma?

We walked by last night and like you said, saw that it isn't open yet. Looks nice, though. I'm interested to see what it's like.

Italian Restaurant in Park Slope / Downtown Brooklyn (for Parents)

Fragole in Cobble Hill is a great parent place sort of between the places you are looking at. My parents love it. Low key and not much of a wait if you go at a decent time.

Ki Sushi on Smith St.

We ate at Ki Sushi this week and we both agree that it is superior to Osaka. The decor and service at Osaka has always left something to be desired, esp. one hostess who is always miserable. The actual sushi was of a good quality and the portions were perfect-- not so thick that you couldn't eat the pieces, but not skimpy either. I think that some of the special rolls at osaka are slightly better and more imaginative, but my fiancee disagrees. The regular rolls, esp. the yellowtail/scallion were very good.

Spanish restaurant on Columbia St. near Alma?

As I was coming home from the airport the other day, I saw a Spanish Restaurant on a corner between Atlantic Ave. and Alma in the Columbia St. area. I can't seem to find it with google searching. Does anyone know what this is called or if it's any good? I know that it is spanish because it has a blue awning that says "Spanish Cuisine" or "Food" on the side. Thanks!
