Any advice on converting recipes?? I've been using 175 grams as one cup of flour and it seems to be working out OK.

Anywhere downtown to buy fresh pita?

Fresh as in baked on premises or fresh as in baked daily (OK with delivery). I manage to get to Arz every few weeks, so I've been spoilt by the still-warm pita.

Anywhere downtown to buy fresh pita?

I did a search on here, but the most recent thread I could find was from just over a year ago and didn't really help.

Does anyone have any current info on where to buy fresh pita downtown? I will check out Paramount on Yonge Street, though nothing on their website indicates that they sell just the pita.

Thanks!

Prince Edward County 2014 summer season

We did our first visit to Sixty-Six 66 Gilead distillery this weekend. Did a tasting of one of the shochu, the gin, and the whiskey. Have to admit that I was disappointed in all three, though we did end up buying their homemade Ginger bitters, which I am very happy with.

Also, just as an aside, we walked past The Drake Devonshire (including the beach side). They are supposedly opening at the beginning of September, but for the life of me, I can't see how.

Had lunch at The Tall Poppy in Wellington - meatball sandwich was absolutely fantastic!

Help me find great Filet Mignon at St. Lawrence Market

Definitely agree with the recommendation for Witteveen Meats. IMHO, the best meat products in the market.

First date - Need a recommendation where to go tommorow

Opentable is showing availability for tomorrow at the following restaurants that may work with the limited information you've given (remember that it's also Summerlicious):

-Ascari Enoteca
-Barsa Taberna
-Ciao Wine Bar
-Cluny
-El Catrin
-La Bettola Osteria
-Origin
-Osteria dei Ganzi
-Swish by Han
-Terroni

Lots of other restaurants available but you didn't say where downtown, what kind of food or how much you wanted to spend.

Need advice for baking home-made ravioli

I have home made ravioli in the freezer that I plan on baking for dinner tomorrow night. The plan is to spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a lasagna pan, layer in the ravioli, and then top with more sauce and cheese.

Do I need to cook the ravioli first?? Any other suggestions?

Need North York recommendation for a 50th wedding anniversary dinner

My in-laws are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in August, and I'm looking for some decent restaurants to recommend for dinner. In the past, they have picked Congee Queen, Paesanos and Trappers, so I want to try and avoid another bad/inappropriate dinner.

There were likely be 10 - 12 people, all adults. We've taken them to places like Scaramouche and Splendido in the past, and they just really didn't enjoy themselves, mostly because of the pricing.

Simple, well executed, decent service, nice atmosphere Italian would be ideal and for some reason, I'm drawing a complete blank. And definitely north of St. Clair and south of Steeles, as this is their comfort zone.

Taste of the Food Terminal - May 25, 2013 - Ontario Food Terminal open house

Has anyone heard anything about this year's event? I keep checking the tasteofthefoodterminal.com website, as well as the FoodShare and Ontario Food Terminal wesbites, but so far there is nothing listed.

This was a great event last year and I was really excited to go again.

Yonge & Eglinton new Gold Star Cafe? Anyone know anything?

It's the same people behind the now closed Marilyn Monroe Cafe in Oakville. They lasted about 7 months there, so hopefully they'll have more luck at Y&E.

Anything decent INSIDE Barclay's Center

So I did a search but could only find questions and answers about dining options near Barclay's Center. Has anyone eaten at any of the places inside Barclay's? I'm especially interested if there are any sit down options. I'm also thinking about the 40/40 Club, though I know that it is a buffet.

Thanks!

Sansaire sous vide - my experience as a warning!

So for anyone thinking of ordering a Sansaire sous vide machine, I though I'd let you know that based on my experience, DON'T!

I ordered the unit in October and received periodic updates via email and on their website. I was excited to see in early February that the units were finally shipping and more excited to see that they charged my credit card on February 13, as I thought I'd be getting my unit shortly.

Well, they didn't ship it until March 5, and it didn't arrive until March 11, but I was still excited as I'd spent months reading about sous vide cooking and telling everyone I knew about this wonderful machine.

As soon as I received the unit, I unpacked it, filled a pot of water, and plugged it in. Needless to say I was disappointed when I turned it on to find out that the display didn't work.

I emailed Sansaire immediately and received no response. I emailed them again twice yesterday and finally received a response, asking if I had removed the sticker on the display (yes, I'm not an idiot!).

I replied that yes, I had, and that I'd tried the unit both in and out of a pot of water, and the display definitely didn't work.

Needless to say, I have still had no response from them and since there is no phone number to call, my only next step is to call my credit card company and dispute the month old charge.

I am so upset and disappointed that I waited 5 months for my sous vide machine and ended up receiving a defective unit that they seem to have no interest in replacing.

So if you're thinking of buying one, hope that you receive a unit that actually works, and don't expect them to be in business a long time with this kind of customer service.

World’s Biggest Bookstore to become restaurant row

Who said I'd rather have another condo in this location? All I said was that I think there are LOTS of things wrong with their plan and with the press release.

1. This location is surrounded by high rises, most notably Atrium on Bay across the road, which has approval to add 5 floors to each of the existing towers. The "multi-level patios" will be great, in the shade all day long.

2. To me, the "best dining experience" includes great food and service, but also includes unique things like maybe a great view, easy parking or access, and not in an area where (unfortunately) there have been a number of public shootings.

3. To be open for the 2015 Film Festival, they need to start construction THIS spring. The store isn't closing until the end of March.

4. I don't understand how the "signage and branding opportunities" will "pull in the millions of yearly patrons" when the site doesn't have great exposure to either Yonge Street or Bay Street.

5. The rents that are going to be needed in this location, given what Lifetime paid for the land and what construction costs will be, will ensure that it will only be more chain restaurants.

And finally, the rumour is that Eataly is going in one of the new towers near ACC/Union Station (I've heard of one specifically, but since it's just a rumour, I don't want to say).

Anyone been to Harvest Kitchen?

Went for lunch a few weeks ago. Waiter was great but they were out of the no-meatball melt, and it took over 45 minutes to get the food once we ordered. Found the portions to be tiny and had to ask for missing components to the dishes. Won't be going back, though they were full, so don't think they'll miss me.
