Swish by Han?

Well, they must have listened to the complaints! We went for dinner last night and the service was FANTASTIC. We had three people serving our table, which is usually a recipe for trouble, but everything was great. The staff was friendly, fun, and accomodating, and even though the restaurant was full, we felt well taken care of and not rushed in any way.

Also, really enjoyed the cocktails and the food. We started with the prawns and the mackarel, which were both great and then we both had the hangar steak BBQ set. Certainly weren't hungry by the time we were done.

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS

It's actually a "Leased" sign in the window. The space has been empty for a few months, and they've found another tenant for the space. I don't know which one, but it is a chain restaurant, and if I had to GUESS, it's likely one of the Extreme Brandz - Mucho Burrito, Extreme Pita, etc.

Getting a little desperate - Birthday Dinner Saturday

Opentable is showing 112 restaurants in Toronto with availability for 6 people on Saturday at 7:00 pm. I didn't go through the list, but I'm sure that there are likely a couple that would fit your requirements.

Origin: restaurant review - Cool vibe, tasty food but schizophrenic menu

Kultura is NOT "right next door". It is a block away, east of Jarvis Street.

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS

Just called the Bay Street location of Sandwich Box and they're still open.

Salted Caramels.....I want these now!!

If you want to try making them, here's a recipe....wondering if you can just skip the chocolate steps.

Passover shopping again...

Just back from the Loblaws on St. Clair (at Bathurst) and I'm infuriated!

They have a large Passover section, but they seem to have just dumped all the kosher items in the store there, including real bread crumbs (specifically marked "Not for Passover"). If I wasn't in a rush, I would have spoken to a manager.

Passover cocktails?

Don't have any answers to your questions, but check out www.sippingseder.com for some interesting cocktails.

Passover shopping again...

FreshCo are mostly rebranded Price Chopper stores, still owned and operated by Sobeys.

Old-fashioned and generous service @ Harbord Bakery

Just as an FYI, I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that Harbord Bakery closes for Passover. This year, Passover starts on the night of April 6 (Good Friday) and ends on April 13.

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS

Il Re on King Street East has closed. Unfortunately, the Pita Land that was on the south side of King, just east of Sherbourne, is taking the space.

Amaya AYCE Royal Tasting Menu

I've had the "tasting menu" at Amaya a few times, and was surprised to see it is now advertised on their website as AYCE. I'm assuming that it now means that you can order repeats of the dishes that they bring you without any extra cost.

The tasting menu is a good opportunity to sample the various dishes at Amaya - it's become boring for me though as the dishes haven't changed much. The website is pretty clear as to what is included in the tasting menu, and IIRC, they do ask if there are any allergies and preferences, and then adjust accordingly. Also, from what I can see, the difference in price has to do with wine pairings.

Anyone know where to buy Lotties Hot Sauce in Toronto?

Just wondering if anyone has seen Lotties for sale in the city. I know that Taste The 4th Sense likely has it (used to get it at their Danforth store), but I can't get out to Port Credit.

Thanks

Food trucks on queen and jarvis?

There are two separate parking lots now with food trucks. The "original" lot with Caplanskys at Queen and Dalhousie (east of Church, west of Jarvis), and the old tire shop lot at Queen and Jarvis. The Toronto Life post/tweet was about the trucks in the "new" lot at Queen and Jarvis.

2 and 1/2 hour layover at Union Station

Sorry but St Lawrence Market is closed on Sunday (and Monday), so you won't be able to buy groceries.

There may be some of the standard food trucks open on the south side of Front St, west of Union Station, but these trucks are mainly hot dogs and fries - no gourmet trucks that I know of.

Your best bet may be Longos at Maple Leaf Square.

Sausage without pork casing?

This must be something new - all of the fresh sausages at Whole Foods used to come only in pork casings.

Nortown on Eglinton sells sausages with non-pork casings.

Breakfast Close to Hilton Downtown

Bannock at Queen and Bay has counter service and The Gabardine on Bay south of Richmond is also open for breakfast, I think.

Turkey breast and drumstick- how long to cook?

I've got a 2.6 lb bone-in, skin-on turkey breast and two small turkey drumsticks. My plan was to coat them in olive oil and salt and pepper and then roast them. Any suggestions for how long and at what temperature? Any other tips/cooking suggestions are also welcome!

Been out of the loop, what's new and exciting and not too far from the Royal York

Aria (in the Telus building), Volos (at York/Richmond), Modus Ristorante (King/York) and Earls.

Anything similar to Gilead Cafe in the Entertainment District?

I'm hosting a dinner with 2 out of town guests in a few weeks . Last year I took them to Gilead and they loved it. This year, they've asked for somewhere similar in atmosphere, but near the Entertainment District and I can't think of anything. Any suggestions?

Good food spot needed near Bass Pro Shops (Rutherford and 400)

Marcello's - http://marcellospizzeria.com/

Kosher Bacon

Been hearing a lot about this - http://www.beefbacon.net/ - but haven't tried it yet. Hopefully it will be for sale in Ontario soon....

Sydney NYE - Restaurant recommendations needed

Wow! Thanks for all of the suggestions!

We'll probably wait until the Royal Botanical Gardens Trust tickets go on sale in early October to make a decision.

Sydney NYE - Restaurant recommendations needed

We're going to be in Sydney for NYE this year and we're looking for a recommendation for a restaurant where we will be able to watch the fireworks.

I know that we're going to have to pay a LOT of money but we'd rather pay for the once in a lifetime experience than spend hours staking out a "free" spot. And for this night, we're putting more emphasis on the view than on the food.

So far, we've looked at the restaurant at Sebel Pier One. Any other suggestions are welcomed!

Best chopped liver in Toronto?

I could be wrong, but you're not going to have much luck finding chopped liver downtown. The closest source will likely be Nortown on Eglinton, west of Bathurst.

Patio by the water

Sugar Beach on one side and Sherbourne Common on the other side (past the George Brown construction), but that's it. You'd have to walk along Queens Quay, past Redpath Sugar, the condo construction site, the Westin hotel, and Harbour Castle condos before you get to the Harbourfront boardwalk area.

Patio by the water

Had dinner at Against The Grain a few weeks ago - this was just after they opened, so things might have changed. I ordered the salmon curry, which had perfectly cooked salmon and a great flavour, but the curry was so soup-y that the waitress offered to bring me a spoon.

I'd definitely go back though and give them another chance.

Suggestions for side dishes with Chicken Marbella

I'm making Chicken Marbella - http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/member/views/CHICKEN-MARBELLA-SILVER-PALATE-COOKBOOK-1277030 - for a dinner party on Saturday night and I'm looking for some suggestions for side dishes.

Two rules though - the side dishes must be make-ahead recipes, and the recipe can't contain any dairy.

I'm serving an arugula/strawberry/candied pecan salad to start, and then brownies for dessert.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Brockville

Not much choice - you'll probably find most people recommending Bud's On The Bay, but I had an absolutely terrible business lunch there a few weeks ago.

Sobey's Front St deal

There is no doubt that the No Frills has taken a lot of their business. This store was never busy and now it's like a ghost town in there. I now only go to St Lawrence Market for fruits, veggies and meats and No Frills for staples.....no need for Sobeys anymore.
