hung ry: excellent new noodle joint

The food really is overhyped. It tastes like my mom's noodle soups or most chinese mom's for that matter - and not in a, I miss my mom's cooking and she's the best home cook ever kind of way. More of a, why am I paying for something I can get at home any time and chose not to in the first place? My friends and I were totally underwhelmed - definitely not worth the price and wait.

Taiwan Beer in Manhattan?

I've never been, but the reviews on YELP mentions Hawkers having Taiwan beer. Good luck.

baked Char Siu Bao in flushing/ elmhurst

Try the bakery in NY supermarket in Elmhurst. The char siu bao's there are really good when fresh out of the oven. Best in Elmhurst at least.

Freshly Made Char Siu Bau in Elmhurst or Jackson Heights?

The bakery counter at NY supermarket in Elmhurst (part of the Broadway food strip mall) always usually have fresh ones right out of the oven as turnover is pretty high. The char siu baus are usually gone by mid-day.

Best Pumpkin pie

Looking to buy a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best pumpkin pie in the city?

Where to find Fruli/Frubee Strawberry Belgium Beer in NYC

Thanks for the recommendation on New Beer! I was able to sucessfully purchase a couple of bottles of Fruili and will be back to get more. Although, I think Fruili on tap is a bit better, it's still nice to get the taste of it again.

To dkb:
Thanks for the tip on Burp Castle. I will definitely check it out too for Fruili on tap!

Where to find Fruli/Frubee Strawberry Belgium Beer in NYC

Awww, i live in Queens and rarely venture out to Brooklyn. Oh well, at least that's a better option than traveling to Canada. I checked the list of beers on the new-beer site and it doesn't look like they have Fruli? I'll try giving them a call to confirm. Thanks for your tips and info!

If anyone else knows of a place in Queens or Manhattan that sells Fruli/Frubee, please do tell. Thanks!

Where to find Fruli/Frubee Strawberry Belgium Beer in NYC

I just tried the most delicious strawberry flavored belgium wheat beer while visiting Toronto Canada this past weekend. It's called Fruli, but I think it may be marketed as Frubee in the US. I was hoping to find this beer again in NYC. Does anyone know where to find it?

Ploy Thai & Spicy Shallot

Spicy Shallot is good for two dishes in my opinion. Their Seafood Spicy Basil Noodle - which is sniffles-inducing spicy and their creme brulee cheesecake, which unfortunately, they've been running out of the last two times I was there. Everything else seems pretty standard. My friends are also impressed with their humongous Thai Ice teas in a beer mug.

Help with Cafes around Bloomingdales

Thanks everyone! I will look into your suggestions.

Help with Cafes around Bloomingdales

Was wondering if anyone know of a good cafe for a first date around the Bloomingdales area. Thanks!

Korean Restaurants on Union

I noticed a bunch of Korean restaurants that looks appealing on Union St between Bayside Ave and 25th Rd in Queens. Sorry, I can't name a specific restaurant since all the signs seems to be in Korean. Does anyone have any info/recommendations on them? Thanks!

Flushing Dim Sum

You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it!

Flushing Dim Sum

My friends and I usually go to Gala Manor or East Manor on Kissena. I know people on this board likes Ocean Jewel and Gum Fung. However, we find Gala's dimsum to be tastier than any of those places. East Manor on Kissena is pretty good but it's hard to get to without a car. Prices depends on how much you order. At Gala we normally spend around $13-$15 per person. Which is pretty reasonable. They have a parking lot as well on Prince Street (but I'm not sure of the exact location). You can probably call the restaurant about it.

Ditto. The Burnt Ends was the worst of what my friends and I ordered....dry and tasteless.

Good Chinese Beef Stew Over Rice

Thanks for the recommendation! I will definitely give Wonton Garden a try. I'll pass on Yogee Noodles though. I really don't like radish with my beef stew. I believe that's the type that is served with noodles in soup too right? I think the radish and soup dilutes the flavor of the beef and it's usually not as tender... Yes, must be fall off the fork tender.

Good Chinese Beef Stew Over Rice

Does anyone know of a place that serves really good Chinese beef stew over rice? There used to be a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant on Grand Street between Bowery and Christie St. called, "Hung Hing Coffee Shop" and they served the best beef stew ever. Unfortunately, they shut down many years back and I have not been able to find beef stew of that caliber eversince. The beef stew they serve is extremely tender (falls apart soft) and the flavorful gravy that resulted from it was so yummy over rice. Oh, how I miss it. Please help!

Great delis in Hong Kong?

Ooo, Hong Kong style "sai chan". There used to be some good places for that in NY when I was growing up but for some reason they all closed down. =( Would you happen to know some great places in HK for that? I'm actually visiting HK next week. Thanks!
