Cravings restaurant?

I read this thread with interest, as I have to attend a business lunch there next week. The restaurant finally has a web site: http://www.cravingstoronto.ca

The food doesn't sound too promising. What would you recommend ordering?

Congee King, Agincourt: unpleasant experience

A disturbing thing happened today.

I often order take-out at Congee King in Agincourt, Scarborough, and have done so for the past 3 years. I always get the same 2 dishes, which rings up to $20.50. Today while I was waiting for my order, for no reason, I started browsing through the menu. The person who took my order came running out in a panic and said that she had charged me $2 too much, and gave me a twoonie back. Sure enough, the menu prices indicate that my order tallies up to $18.50. The disturbing part is that since I always order the same thing, and the price has alway been the same, I believe that I've been overcharged $2 on every single visit. How very unpleasant. I will never go back.

Just a warning to other patrons.

Best Indian in Toronto - where is it?

Second Pakwanchi. Not fine dining by any stretch - not even as clean as the local McDonald's - and long waits while they cook your food, but what food!

decent espresso in the Toronto 'burbs?

Thanks. I've never tried Vietnamese coffee, nor gone to Remezzo's (which is conveniently within walking distance of my neighbourhood!) but will give it a shot - no pun intended.

China Buffet King at Warden/401 in Scarborough is under new management

Thanks! We're giving the Imperial a try this weekend.

Where can I get a decent espresso in (hold your laughter) Scarborough or Markham?

I'm not too optimistic, judging by this thread - http://www.chowhound.com/topics/102358 - but if there's a slim chance that someone has a Chowfind, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??

I went to Harbord during an off-peak hour, and the chips were good, but I felt that the halibut was really poor quality. Tough, dry, not the melt-in-your-mouth stuff I've had at My Place in Scarborough (http://www.chowhound.com/topics/330793). About My Place - the batter is more of a light tempura than the traditional beer batter, and skip the watery mushy peas.

good places to go in the suburbs?

> just past the 404, before victoria park is j-town (www.japantown.ca), a small mall with a great bakery, fish monger, grocery store and a few gift shops.

I second the trip to J-town, for take-out anyway, as there are no proper restaurants in that strip. It's got the freshest tempura shrimp in the GTA, and it's inexpensive too! I always pick up loads of unagi onigiri (rice balls with bbq'd eel) while I'm there.

Where did My Place Fish and Chips go? (Scarborough)

KevinB, your story reminds me of a coworker who used to go to Johnny's when he was at Seneca College. We went there for lunch recently, and as he was reminiscing about his college days while perusing the menu, the guy behind the counter got impatient and said, "What?? Our menu hasn't changed for 20 years!" What can I say? Great place, great staff!

China Buffet King at Warden/401 in Scarborough is under new management

China Buffet King at Warden/401 in Scarborough is now under new management. My in-laws report that it is more expensive and the food is worse. No great loss IMHO, as the food wasn't that great anyway, but it was the only resto that my in-laws liked, and I do feel sorry for the staff who have complained that the new management now pockets the tips. Now that my in-laws refuse to go there, does anyone know of a good Cantonese buffet near Scarborough (yes, I realize that "good ... buffet" is an oxymoron)? I read through an earlier thread from 2 years ago asking the same question, but the only other resto recommended was Buffet City (Starwalk is not a Cantonese place).

Where did My Place Fish and Chips go? (Scarborough)

I went there for lunch today. Same owners, same menu. Thank goodness they've re-opened.

My Place Fish & Chips
2577 Victoria Park Ave.
416-495-0195

It's the in the Esquire Plaza, which is on the south-east corner of Victoria Park and Sheppard. It's the plaza beside Johnny's Burgers - I assume every Chowhound knows where Johnny's is, right?. :-)
