It it the one that advertizes the Tuesday Wings usually? If so, then yes, one and the same. Otherwise I'm not sure, i forgot to check when I passed by the other day. It could have reopened since.

What is the Best restaurant for fish in Astoria?

So, went to Kyclades last week.
Got:
Greek Salad- predictable
Grape Leaves - Excellent
Veggie Chips- excellent
Fried Calamari- very tender
Red Snapper- good, but extremely expensive

Horta was interesting and the lemon potatos aren't as good as at Stamatis. (which i've been boycotting after one evening of TERRIBLE service)

Thanks for the suggestion- I really enjoyed my dinner there.

Is there a good fresh pasta/ravioli store in Astoria?

Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to try Cassinelli next time I get a craving.

Borgatti's is definitely my favorite (and I broke down and went to the Bronx yesterday) as well, just wanted something a bit closer!

Is there a good fresh pasta/ravioli store in Astoria?

I know I should go to Arthur Ave in the Bronx, but I'm lazy.

Is there anywhere to get good fresh ravioli in Astoria or LIC?

Thanks!

Cafe Bar in Astoria

Went there for brunch today- the Four Grain Pancakes (mixed berry) were excellent, I would not get the French toast again. Service was lousy. More fun at night for people watching.

Astoria Top 5 List?

oh man... Red Sonja. I swear they put addictive substances in it! Also, the puro turco, Crab meat and artichoke dip, crabmeat burger, Dakos salad (i think they changed the name), Ottoman Dumplings (sour sauce, not everyone likes this), Turkish Meatballs... well you get my point. A few of the new dishes are really interesting too, like the cheese with the leaf and red pepper...

My suggestion: order lots of the small dishes for the table, and split one main course for every 2-3 people present.

Walima in Astoria Review (long)

Dined at Walima last night with two friends.

Over all, I felt it was a good restaurant and would go again.

Positive traits:
Excellent Service: our waitress was very friendly, excited about the menu, and willing to explain the dishes in detail. She expressed her opinion when asked and noted which dishes were most popular. When my friend asked what CD was playing, she offered to make a copy for the next time we visited. Our waters were constantly filled up, and she brought us more bread when she noticed our basket was low.

Good food: we ordered the phyllo pastry (blanking on the name!) with the chicken, and the one with the seafood, as well as the traditional couscous. for an appetizer we ordered the Hummus. The flavor for all of the dishes were very good. The Moroccan Tea was great, and she brought us a second pot free.

Price: The bill for our party of 3 was 60 bucks. not bad for three main dishes, two drinks and hummas.

Negative Aspects: The main courses we ordered all took a very long time to cook. The phyllo pastries came out about 10 minutes before the couscous. The waitress apologies profusely for the wait, as it took about an hour to receive our meal due to an emergency which left the kitchen short-staffed.

All in all, I'd recommend Walima. I'd probably order take out unless I had quite a bit of free time.

Astoria Top 5 List?

1) Mundo- a weekly regular, definitely my favorite
2) Piccola Venezia- Second the Gnocci
3) Kabab Cafe on Steinway- great food, original atmosphere
4) 31st north of Ditmars- Italian restaurant whose name I cannot currently recall
5) 32nd and B'way Street Cart

I did not like San Souci, and I believe it has closed. I've been to Brick a few times and never really enjoyed it. Do not bother with their French Toast for brunch.

Sabor Tropical is pretty good, as well as quite a few others here. For take out we tend to stick to the Thai place on 30th Ave near 34th Street, as well as Thai Palace.

Meskel Ethiopian Restaurant, 3rd and Ave B

On my way to dinner last night, I met two very nice women waiting (for a very long time) at the bus stop with me. When I mentioned I was heading to the restaurant recently reviewed in the Times (11/1)- Meskel, they urged me to join Chowhound and post about it, so here I am!

My friend and I arrived at the small restaurant in Alphabet city around 6:45pm on Thursday and not a moment too soon. The tiny room, artfully decorated was packed with people waiting outside for a table, the entire time we were there. Probably as a result of the recent review, the place seemed under staffed until extra help arrived about an hour later.

After much waiting, I ordered the meat combo dish (to sample a greater variety of the food) and my friend ordered one of the chicken dishes (that came with boiled eggs). Both were excellent, and were filled with fun flavors. As a first timer for Ethiopian food, this was definitely a fine choice to experiment on.

Also, BYOB/W as they do not yet have a licence.
