jjbourgeois's Profile
South Shore
The Old Salt is open on the weekends at the moment. I believe Memorial Day weekend they'll open with a full schedule for the summer.
Done with Chez Henri
Your remarks are so very true. Service has always been an issue in Boston. It is rare if you get anything even approaching the quality that one would see in San Fran or NYC.
Russo's vs. Whole Foods
Past couple of weeks they started carying Grillo's. But I still miss Moon Brine.
So-Gross-They're-Good Faves
McMenamy's Hamburger House is Easton on Rte 138 sort of fits the bill. Fairly decent burgers, but the place has been updated since around 1952.
Russo's vs. Whole Foods
Ditto! I've stop shopping at WF just because of the poor quality of their produce. I've found that produce from Russo's last longer and does seem to taste better. I will complain they do not carry a good selection of fresh tomatos, but during the summer i'll just hit a local farm stand for those. Agree with Jenny also, early morning on the weekends or weekday afternoon. Any other times it becomes more of a roller derby of competitive shopping.
February 2012 Openings and Closings
Blue 22 Started out good, but after the first 6 months it slid down the tubes. I don't understand how they managed to stay in business so long. Everytime I went by, they only had 3-4 people at the bar.
Best Carbonara in town
If anyone is interested in a road trip Osteria La Civetta in Falmouth does a great carbonara. They make their own pasta, but use pancetta not guanciale. Still taste great and is only on their lunch menu.
Quincy Peeps: Italy's Little Kitchen?
We gave up on Gennaros a year ago. They were good, but have steadily gone down hill over the past few years.
Cape Cod Best Restaurant?
I haven't been since March, but Bleu was very nice. French Bristro style, little pricy, but the Chef is pretty good (Feufeu is the name). I wouldn't hesitate to go back next time i'm in the area.
No Name Restaurant - Fish Pier in Boston
If you don't have to go, don't go. Your intestines will appreciate it.
December 2011 Openings and Closings
Hibernia Grill is open in Easton on rte 138. This is the former location of the Blackthorne Tavern.
Need Newburyport input
For family friendly, Michaels is probably the safest bet. Food is pretty solid, I do like their fish chowder. Grog is also family friendly, but the food I think is better at Michaels. Plus Michaels isn't haunted.
Bon Appetit Magazine Going Totally Downhill
Bon Appetit went downhill a long time ago. I let my subscription expire and will never renew.
Plymouth - Last Minute Birthday Dinner
Patrizia's on Water St. is pretty good. Italian cuisine, reasonably priced. Last time I was there they had a fabulous asparagus soup.
Has the Boston area finally become a good food and restaurant city?
Do not get me started on Fire and Ice!!! I'll leave it at that. My insurance doesn't cover the PTSD from eating at that swill hole.

Plum Island (and thereabouts)--eating advice?
Plum Island Grille is a definite place to avoid. We tried them a couple of times, Service was always terrible and two issues with charges on the card. Haven't been back and will never go back to the establishment again.

Has the Boston area finally become a good food and restaurant city?
Really?!?! Couldn't we just hit him with a day old crueller?
Williamsburg trip
Thanks!! We were last down there in 2005 and loved the Blue Talon. We're heading back this September and will be looking forward to eating there again.
Williamsburg trip
When did the Blue Talon Re-open? Didn't they have a fire several years ago?
Top Ten Italian Restaurants around the World - Antico???
Just noticed my first post finally appeared. Ignore my further ranting.
Putting Antico in the same category as Spiaggia?!?!?! They can not be serious about this list. No way!
Lets force Massachusetts craft brewers out of business, k?
Samuel Adam's would be affected also. Typical behavior for the Mass legislature. Was talking to a wine distributor that was working with a maker of limoncello. The guy had to move his limoncello business to New Hampshire because of the cost. In Massachusetts it was $12000 for a distillery license, in New Hampshire, $400.
Top Ten Italian Restaurants around the World - Antico???
This has to be a joke. Is this related to The Onion?!? I've been to Bottega and Spiaggia. Antico is no where near those two. And to lump Antico in with them is an insult.
What's your favorite dijon mustard and where do you buy it locally?
I had recently picked up two jars of Edmond Fallot mustard at Formaggio Kitchen. They usually have it in stock.

July 2011 Openings and Closings
The former site of Montreal Fries on Rte 106 in West Bridgewater has a new restaurant. Cafe Francesca has an opening soon sign in the window. They've repainted the exterior and looks like they did some interior work.
New Food Network Show: Extreme Chef
It has to be the stupidest thing the Food Network has come up with in a long time. Why not put them at the wrong end of a firing range and see how that works out.
Locke Ober Review in Globe [moved from Boston board]
I'm sorry but reading the Boston Globe for anything related to food is like reading The Onion for news.
Journeyman damaged by car crash; closed for repairs
So Journeyman doesn't have a drive thru window? ;-)
Rialto: 4 course dinner with wines, prepared by Jody Adams - Rue La La coupon
Rialto is also off of our list. We gave it three tries, once during restaurant week, and it was just horrible. Overly salted food and horrible service. Considering the prices they charge, they should be embarassed.
Bon Appetit & Paltrow
Her cookbook is out, it's aready at BJ's for $15.99 I believe.
Best (NON-Buffalo flavored) Wings in Boston?
They still got them and they are still delicious.
