breakfast in Alexandria?

Thanks ...will check those out...whole foods has been an option for us in Boston too!

breakfast in Alexandria?

looking for eclectic spots for breakfast in Alexandria..we are one nite at Hotel Monaco and three at the Westin...walking distance prefered...

not brunch, we are early breakfast eaters

bakeries with coffee patries welcomed as well...

thanks

Easy, cheap eats in DC - do they even exist?

Have car..also hotel in Alexandria close to metro...willing to ride....thinking tho, maybe eating before returning to hotel....

Casual but good/eclectic/adventurous....dinner options

Easy, cheap eats in DC - do they even exist?

a little late to this party, but....traveling with the family (three adventurous eaters) to d/c for a few nites....new to your town, and not familiar with where the tourist spots museums, zoo, monuments) etc are in comparison to these recommendations....

also we are hotel'ing in Alexandria (so rec's there would help too)

so if could, i would be honored if the locals could fill in the blanks...

if you visit _____, I recommend______, a _____min walk away......

???
cheap to "mid range" , even pricey as long as casual dress is ok and as long as its chow'ish!....!!!

thanks in advance!

connecticut chow family heading to d.c. in april...one question at a time...

first, thanks in advance...!

second...i have NO knowledge of the chow scene in DC but plan on reading my way thru this board,

so: question #1...where to start looking ie what are the neigborhoods/areas in DC with the chow? where is a cool central locale to start looking for a hotel to situate us between the typical DC attractions spots and the not touristy food (read: chow)

looking for lively spots, great food, craft and or well made cocktails, prefer a mix of cuisines for a 4-5 day visit...unique dishes a plus...dives not excluded...fancy-not us, but we clean up nicely for most spots..lol...

thoughts?

thanks again!

Night out Lake Worth/Palm Beach and Vicinty

thanks! 32 east and Max's Harvest are indeed up our alley...we look forward to picking a spot!

Night out Lake Worth/Palm Beach and Vicinty

two chowish folks coming to visit this weekend from Connecticut, leaving kid behind with the grandparents for a nite out....

willing to drive a bit...

enjoy creative american or most/all ethnic, and a great cocktail spot would be a plus (but not an absolute)...

appreciate any advice we can get...

thanks in advance...

Recipe for Excellent Cocktail Cherries

if i can find good cherries come summer i will be sure to try your recipe, however, i happen to like the sticky perserved fruit-ish character of the Luxardo..just my taste, although wouldnt turn down a plump fresh plump boozy cherry either...

hoping someone can steer me to a method to replicate luxardo's sticky goodness, possibly even using the dried fruit i have on hand..guess i must experiment..supposed to snow tommorow...project?

Recipe for Excellent Cocktail Cherries

was thinking of that, but then..
1. no syrup
2. the alcohol might leach color from the cherries..

would your method work, sans the brine, if i made a half : 1 simple that i infused with spices, so that the extra water might plump the cherries, or make a 1:1 simple infusion, add cherries and then use the booze to help plump??

i think i will try this, hope i will have good news to report.

My first attempt with real cherries was Jacues Pepin's method i found. they were god awful.

I want to dupe the Luxardos as best i can.

Recipe for Excellent Cocktail Cherries

any ideas on how to do this with dried cherries? I found some nice large plump dried cherries at Trader Joes the other day....?

Saturday lunch req's-close-ish to Grand Central

Arriving lunch time Saturday on the train from Connecticut, will need to eat very soon after arrival...

Have to be able to please an adventurous and well behaved 4 1/2 year old and her relatively "hip" grandmother.

need something casual but good, from cheap eats to moderately priced, will be in "summer casual" attire due to the expected heat, (not too dressed down but shorts and a polo or nice tee)..so nothing too schmancy...

wide range of tastes, so throw them at us and we will comb thru the req's...please, good "chow" req's no touristy stuff...

we are heading to the museum afterward...(uptown east)

any other local selections?

Great Seafood on the Cape?

how do you think Chef Remler and his wife would feel about a well behaved 4 1/2 yo cutie (my daughter) joining us for dinner (she's far from the chicken finger type...great adventurous palate for her age)..this sounds like a place to try, and we will be staying in Harwich this year...

Connecticut to Baltimore stop for lunch?

ok, sounds like it may be our choice, gotta trust the chow's

Connecticut to Baltimore stop for lunch?

not meaning to sound foodie instead of chowish but....really? do tell...am i right, my internet search comes up as "truck stop"

Connecticut to Baltimore stop for lunch?

Travelling from Connecticut to Baltimore on Saturday, need an off highway stop for lunch about 2 hours - 2 1/2 hours south of NYC; I figure that puts us somewhere in southern NJ area...

anyone with thought, we have never travelled thru the area..looking for that great roadside place, awesome sandwich shop, deli etc...

easy on/off would be helpfull...

all ethnic cuisines considered

thanks in advance

Need dining and drink recs "Inner Harbor" and point close...

Bring the family down for a ball game in May...

1. need breakfast/lunch/dinner recs in and around the harbor/fells/camden yards areas...
-like somewhere that varies it menus with seasonal ingredients
-like eclectic/innovative/adventurous breakfast choices, both sweet and savory, "funky" atmospheres
-like places with a vibe/energy
-seafood always a plus, not big on steak
-would invite ethnic spots as well

Keep us away from the tourist traps...

2. are there any places in town that specialize in the "classic"/retro/pre-prohibition/craft cocktail trend? quality liquors/fresh squeezed juices, properly mixed etc...?

thanks

Luxardo Maraschino Cherries in Connecticut?

Anyone know where i can find them??? they are pricey to begin with and the only internet vendor charges an additional $7 shipping....

Particularly looking around Fairfield county but will take info on anywhere they can be found...

thanks in advance for the help...

(I am going to try to make my own this summer during cherry season, if anyone has any rec's for that i'd love to hear that too...I have found some ideas on the net for both fresh cherries as well as making some from dried Michigan's and to simply make drunken cherries from jarred Morello's from Trader Joes...)

My cocktails are rejecting the toxic neon "cherries" you otherwise see in the markets...

Neptune Oyster or Craigie on Main

We defineitly appreciate great food and great dining experience as you say Craigie will promise, but yes its gonna be a more out on the town, lets find some great cocktails before/during/after dinner as well kind of weekend...(mind you not a drunk-beer fest reminiscent of our college days, for sure!)
Craigie may fit, not sure...thats why i came here!

chose E.S for its classic cocktails, would like to find some more places like that as well. I see Craigie has a great bar list too, though??)
