Let Down By Providence (Long)

I must agree with you. Every now and then the food is amazing but more often forgettable...and the service...well that's another hit or miss....We decided that there are many other great restaurants in LA and not bother with such inconsistency

Wedding Caterer SCV?

Hello Everyone,

Looking for a caterer for our wedding next year. I'm hoping to have as much knowledge as I can before it's actually time to order everything.

Now I know there are very few fans of the SCV....but I live here and most likely the reception will be here as well...so I only assume that it would be easier for both parties to be close to one another..but I could be wrong...This is my first time dealing with a caterer and I could use all the help I can get.

Anyways...does anyone know of a caterer who works well on a budget, great food, possiblty wine (anyone use All Corked Up). Just hor' d'oeuvres.. We're very casual but quality is a must...better half is a huge foodie....

Does Max in Sherman Oaks cater? (we'll ask andre next time we stop by)

Since we refer to the hounders for most of our restaurant pick...you are my first plan of action....thanks and we really appreciated any references.

Valencia, Santa Clarita, Burbank: Chain Restaurant Wasteland?

Hey now...everyone is consistently harsh on the SCV.....ok so the SCV isn't on the cutting edge tasty treats...but there are some real gems that should be foreshadowed by chains.

Athena's (Canyon Country) - great Greek food, must try the lamb shank
Guido's (Saugus) - pizza and wings
Las Delciosa (Canyon Country/Valencia)- tacos and other Mexican food
Maria's (Newhall) - Italian
All Corked Up (Canyon Country) - Wines and food (band on weekends)
Cousins (Valencia, Canyon Country) - Burgers and salads
Egg Plantation (Newhall) - omelets and good breakfast
Salt Creek Grill (Valencia) - Steaks
Tiny's Subs (Canyon Country) - subs
Le Chen (Canyon Country) - french

Enjoy your time in SCV :)

I just happen to received 4 bags of green lentils (yes 4 big bags) from my brother this weekend....and to be honest I don't know what to do with them...Last night I attempted to make a Greek lentil soup..but it came out bland and boring...
Any hounders w/ some tasty recipes I can try tonight?

Many thanks,

Bar for girls night out

Hi,
The girls and I are heading out to Hollywood (or maybe the valley??)...and to be honest..none of us have been out on the bar scene for a while. ....a long while...
Any ideas on friendly bars...not insanely hip....cause I'm not as hip as I used to be, good food is a plus, and a dance floor would be the tops :)

Thanks,
bF

Oinkster Burger

I think the Max reference is Max Restaurant in Sherman Oaks

MAX Restaurant
13355 Ventura Blvd.
Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

It's kind of a asian/french enfusion cuisine. I'm a huge fan of the lumpia :)

And yes...I'm pretty sure they pay close attention to customer comments. Next time try and speak to the manager.
Oh, did you get the 5$ off email? I'm not usually a coupon clipper..but I don't mind printing this one out as an excuse to grab some lunch :)

Stoopidest (sic) question ever: oatmeal

I absolutely love oatmeal...especially cooked in whole milk :)
I must say the speed of cooking rolled oats works perfectly during the weekdays, however for a special treat I make the steal cut on the weekends. I've heard that you can make the steal cut the night before in a slow cooker, but I'm not sure it they will loose the nutty chewiness that I've come to enjoy. You should give the steal cut a try...it's very good

ISO Exotic Dinner

I’m in the midst of planning a dinner for four people. Would love to try something exotic/ unusual. Preferably not very loud place, food must be the focus. Currently looking at Typhoon, Dhar Maghred or Romanov.
LA , Pasadena, or SFV areas would be great but will go further for great bites. Would love to do a tasting menu if possible but we can always order a variety of dishes.

Any recommendations?

Many Thanks
