First Soft Shell Crabs Sighting
I don't know about you, but - I've been buying, preparing, and cooking my seafood for a lot of years.
I went to Whole Foods in Newton today, and there's a boatload of dead soft shell crabs on ice. Looking.. shrugs - not great.
I want my crabs kicking and screaming, until the moment I decide to dispatch them and prepare them for dinner.
I voted with my feet, leaving empty handed. How do I know how long they've been "dressed" (their term, not mine)??

Strip T's can be kind of a madhouse these days.... How about Red Lentil? Shangri La? Shiraz Cuisine?

Best Fresh Bagels In Boston?
I get Rosenfeld's most often, and adore Katz as well...
HINT: An oven or toaster oven can restore your 'no longer warm' bagel to it's previous warmth. :)
Strip T's increasing funkiness
Confession - My favorite New Orleans po-boy sandwiches from Domilise's and Mother's ... are served on a pretty soft americanized french bread.
Part of a perfect sandwich is the symphony of bread and contents. If the sandwich's bread is hard and crusty (re: an Iggy's baguette), well then - you can't really compress the sandwich without compressing the (very hot soft shell crab) contents, or risking the despised "slippage".
I understand that this is an interpretation of that classic sandwich, complete with cheese.... and I appreciate the intensity and passion of it's creator. Shrugs - I found it very tasty, albeit more difficult to eat than it's Big Easy cousin.
My $0.02, your mileage may vary.
Sunday Lunch in Watertown
CookieLee - Tim (the son) has taken over both lunch and dinner. The latest menus are at:

and yes, they are closed Sunday.

BTW soft shell crab po-boy is mkt price ($14). Seemed like 50% of the lunch crowd was still trying to order items from the old menu - this will pass....

From what I've seen, the best option might've been Greg's.

Grrr, but they're closed on Sunday!
Popular with those that like decor / waitstaff from 30 years ago. :)

You got it, opinionatedchef. New lunch will start when they re-open, featuring some of the specials from the old lunch menu.
Strip T's increasing funkiness
I dunno - I was there this week, waiting for my lamb shoulder / watercress sandwich for lunch - and the guy behind me was ordering a "Turkey on sourdough" etc, etc...
Always nerve wracking when changing a menu - this is a middle class working neighborhood by day.
(been there lotsa times, yet to use the rest room, if there really is one) :)

Good price for lamb?
Laughs at "semi-boneless"...
one might think "boneless" implies without bones... unless it's "Semi-boneless", in which case it's got a huge honkin bone running through it... :)
Good price for lamb?
Big Y Walpole, American lamb, bone in; half or whole leg, $3.99/lb. I think the sale ends 4/4/12.

Need fresh yeast
I bought a 2 pack of Red Star bricks at BJs a year or two back, and have just about finished it. I keep a jar in the fridge, the rest in zip lock bags in the freezer.
Re: homebrewing, you really want the most viable yeast. In contrast to bread yeast, when using homebrew yeast, you want it as active as possible as soon as it hits the wort, to in effect - crowd out- anything else that might impart off flavors to your brew. Unless you're into the Sommerville lambic style... :)
Town Diner Anti-Customer Service
"the food was great and the price right. "
That may have been the case back then - but $8.50 is the cheapest burger now, $4.95 the cheapest hot dog.

I buy bags of chicken feet for stock from Super 88/H Mart in Allston. (Sometimes labeled "Chicken Paws") :) No idea of the source, and unfortunately, language can be in issue in conversations there.

Killer Roast Lamb Sandwich - Greek Corner Cambridge
This sandwich is so worth it, if only for discovering what a pita is and always should be. As LStaff said, soft, almost fluffy... it'll make you hate that thing you bought in the supermarket.
Russo's vs. Whole Foods
Funny that you should mention herbs. Russo's usually kills WF, leaving me thinking - "Man, that dill looks fantastic - what can I do with that!" vs "Do I really need $3.99 worth of chives?" when I'm at WF.
Don't be afraid to drive up Mt Auburn to Arax too.

Does anyone know where to buy pearl sugar?
I bought a quantity online - turns out my discriminating waffle eaters don't really appreciate it as much as I'd hoped....
Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?
You're right Sally... But I'm from a world where diners mean a quick hot breakfast thrown at you by the guy in front of you working the flattop. I've got to get used to this kinda diner - or go elsewhere.
Jockey Box rental for wedding in Ogunquit
Try calling one of the bigger beer stores - Think Marty's, Blanchard's, Martignetti's....
You need to know in advance what kegs you're gonna try to attach - a keg of Bud uses a different tap than a cornelius keg of a craft beer.
Worst case, Google "homebrew club" in the area you're thinking of and start begging... :)
Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?
You can put my vote into the "Meh" column....
A simple breakfast, eggs, homefries, toast, coffee. Cold, raw outside.
Ordering included specifying whether or not I wanted butter on my toast, and milk or cream with my coffee. Nice to ask, but in all my years, I've assumed that toast would arrive buttered - if I didn't want it that way, I'd mention it. And that the little pitcher next to my coffee cup would contain some dairy augmentation for the coffee.
K, eggs were fine, toast was lightly buttered - all good.
Homefries - deep fried? And held under a heat lamp or something? They weren't hot enough for me on this chilly morning, and deep frying them is just wrong, in my humble opinion.
Coffee was good, but at $2.55 / cup, it'd better be.
ISO salt-packed capers
Striperguy, it's like this. I used the tiny jarred ones for years, with very predictable results. Now, the one's I got at Arax are far saltier, but I get to control how long I rinse/soak them so I can control that. And they're bigger than the jarred ones, so I gain control over if or how small I chop them.
And, I was thinking.... now I've got a small supply of 'caper salt' to play with.... :)
ISO salt-packed capers
Yup. Just checked, mine came from Arax. They also keep forever.
