Surcharge for drinks served up?
We went to Kate Mantilini last night for the first time. I was surprised to see a surcharge of $1.25 per manhattan we drank because we'd ordered them "up" (is it at all common for people to drink manhattans OTR?). I hadn't seen this anywhere before -- is this becoming a practice? Frankly, it seemed a little nickel-and-diming.

Good pizza in Glendale/Montrose/La Crescenta?
Considering that we're occasionally driving back to Silver Lake to get a Nicky D's fix, Burbank and Pasadena are not too far. Thanks, all, for the suggestions. We look forward to eating our way through them, one Friday at a time.
Good pizza in Glendale/Montrose/La Crescenta?
The previous owners of our house recommended Two Guys From Italy. It's fine, but are there any really good pizza places nearby? Delivery preferred but I'll happily pick it up if it's worth my while.
Looking for food-grade diatomaceous earth
Seriously, anyone know where to get some preferably near Glendale? I have no idea where to start looking. Thanks.
Tre Venezie -- worth it?
Thanks, all, for the feedback. I think we're going to try Bashan's, which is less than a mile from our house and seems to get pretty good reception from Chowhounds generally. We'll save the Langham for next year's anniversary.
Tre Venezie -- worth it?
We're looking for a romantic nice dinner in the Pas-Glendale area. Tre Venezie was recommended but I've seen some pretty scathing comments about lackluster/hostile service. I'll pay the money for great food but not if the service is bad. How have people's experiences been? Thanks!
Iron City Beer in Los Angeles
I'll be, you are absolutely right! Alas, Vendome only has ICB in glass bottles. Fussy, I know, but we're after the whole beer can hat deal for a crazed Steelers fan. Thanks for the help, though.
Iron City Beer in Los Angeles
Is it available? And while I'm sure the beer will be delicious, our end goal is an Iron City Beer can crocheted hat in Steelers colors. Many thanks!
Purgatory Pizza
Has anyone else had their pizza since their return from sabbatical? We just had some tonight with high hopes after reading all the Chowhound reviews and it was...not good. Crust was soggy and the cheese was just weird. I'm hoping a regular can tell me that it was an off-night, or something was amiss, because it was nothing I want to order again.
Dusty's or Musty's
We went to brunch yesterday based on a mixed-bag of friends' reviews. We will not be going back. The service was abominable -- drink order was taken 10 minutes after we sat down, coffee and water showed up 10 minutes later, coffee cups showed up 5 minutes after that. I envy your bacon experience, since our was so overcooked that it crumbled when we tried to pick it up. My husband's quiche was burned (not browned) on top. The coffee was barely passable. Waiter couldn't give a damn. We had to chase down the check 20 minutes after asking for it. After all the hoopla we'd heard, it's a mystery to me why I should pay that much money for an insipid to bad brunch when there are so many other good brunch places in the neighborhood.
Sunday Brunch 10-15 - Woodland Hills?
We just got married at I7R, and were in this same situation. We decided not to have brunch at I7R, just to shake things up, but unless the groom hates all things non-typical with the burning passion of 1000 suns, tell him not to rule it out! Brunch is fantastic there, it's not unreasonably priced, and the place is terrifically beautiful -- a great place for a post-wedding experience. We took our group to Paradise Cove, figuring it was the best of all worlds: good food, reasonably priced, wide array to appeal to many choices, they could seat 20 of us without agita (i.e., they took the reservation without any hassle about banquet rooms and extra seating fees, which both Duke's and Moonshadows did), and - hey - it's got its own beach! What's better to non-SoCal visitors than to show off a pod of dolphins while they're eating Sunday Brunch?
best south indian in artesia?
I've seen Woodlands posted a few times now as being good, if not the best. Really? I've had spotty luck with them. First time was good, second time tepid, last time just nothing special. That was about 1 1/2 years ago and I scratched them off the list. Better now? In contrast, I've had consistently good luck with Udupi Palace over many years.
Pizza Buona
The comparison between Casa Bianca and Buona doesn't square -- Bianca's pizza is much more cracker-crusty (and over-rated, frankly, unless you really enjoy waiting 1 1/2 hours for a decent pizza). Buona has really good pizza, not super-fantastic, but really good -- the Rustica is terrific -- and beyond that, they're an institution in the 'hood. The folks who've owned it have been there since the earth cooled. It's where I always test-date someone: can he handle the Frank & opera on the jukebox, the chilled Burgundy and the representative slice of Echo Parkers who patronize the place? Nicky D's is another place we frequent -- good pepperoni, mixed delivery history (usually about 45 minutes faster just to pick it up yourself), nice people. Masa is okay, too. I'm a Chicagoan, though, and their "Chicago-style" pizza is admirable in effort, but just doesn't get all the way there.
