King's Noodles - Richardson

My favorite is (or used to be) #8 Dry Noodle with Ground Pork Sauce and my SO's fav is #4 Beef Noodle Soup w/ Shrimp Won Ton. However, over the last couple of months, most recently this week, both dishes weren't as good as they used to be (we've been going there since they opened). My noodles were too soft. The beef wasn't tender and was almost inedible. So we probably won't go back.
Will probably go back for the shaved ice, the best Taiwanese shaved ice in town IMO.

Ethiopian Food

Ditto. We've been eating regularly at Addis Abeba since they opened about 3 years ago. Laibela (in Dallas) is good, too, but I like wot better at Addis Abeba.

Trader Joe's in Dallas?

Japanese curry in the DFW

Ino in Richardson has curry udon, but I'm not sure if they have curry w/ rice. I think Sushi Robata also has some curry dish--might be curry udon. Have no idea how spicy they make it. I make my own (mild) curry at home :)

[DFW]99 Ranch Market is Coming to Plano!

luniz, pls report back on the food counter. The eating area was packed today. They seem to have better fish than other local Chinese stores. I thought the prices of their sale items were pretty good. You can't get a box of Vermont curry for $2.98 anywhere else in the Metroplex. And right now there's a lot of stuff on sale.

Eating the World Cup in DFW

If you're a soccer freak (like my SO), you need to go to Ojos Locos for Mexico games, not for the food, but for the atmosphere. People start drinking at 8am on the day of the game!

Ethiopian Food in Dallas?

Really? I thought the dishes at Queen of Sheeba were spicier, but not flavorful.
We love Addis Abeba. It's behind 7-11--hard to see from the street.

Best Dim Sum & Cantonese Food in DFW.

LuckyK, Maxim's chef (Richardson) is Cantonese (though the owner is Taiwanese) and we think they have the best Cantonese in DFW. (Their menu is huge and you have to know what to order because some dishes aren't very good.) I was introduced to their dishes by our Cantonese friend. Their crispy chicken and crab fried rice (see my avatar) are addictive. Their fried pork chop w/ salt & pepper used to be excellent, but it's not as good lately (still better than First Emperor's--Taiwanese).
There's better Cantonese/Chinese food than FCB in DFW--I know you won't like it if you're talking about SF-level (or Vancouver or HK) Cantonese. My Cantonese and other Chinese friends refuse to go there.
Kirin Ct's dim sum used to be pretty good for Dallas, but something happened (chef changed?) and it's pretty bad now. We won't go back.
BTW, Royal Sichuan in Richardson is excellent.

Best Dim Sum & Cantonese Food in DFW.

Their Roast Pig/Pork and Soy Sauce Chicken are pretty close to the Vancouver level (but they run out of those dishes fast!) Their BBQ pork isn't very good (too sweet). Their dim sum is baaad.

Taiwanese in Dallas

Another fan of The Minced Pork w/ Bean Curd & Hot Peppers at Umeko! We've been eating that dish for over 2 yrs, and the spiciness varies a lot every time. Also, how much green onions are in it--sometimes you get more green onions than the pork.

We took someone there last time and he ordered Crispy Shrimp w/ Hot Pepper. It was very good--a pleasant surprise.

My SO likes Five Flavored Squid. Some of our companions also liked Bitter Melon w/ Spare Ribs. I didn't like duck tongue, but I don't like duck in general.
Pls let us know if you find other good dishes on their menu.

Vietnamese Cajun

The one in Saigon Mall is called Cajun Hut, our favorite. Cheaper than The Boiling Crab.

Sichuan cuisine in DFW

We ate at Royal Sichuan with some chowhounds, all of whom love spicy food. They all said the food wasn't that spicy so I guess they held back on the spice (looking at Luniz' face!) That's why I was going to have my Chinese friend order in Chinese, but he got there after we finished ordering.

Chongquin Fried Chicken with Dried Chilies was what the waitress (owner?) recommended it (after she figured I wasn't Chinese--she might have recommended something else if I spoke Chinese!) It was good, but nothing like "wow" as LewisvilleHounder said. We didn't have any of the dishes LewsvilleHounder had so we need to go back.

Garland Restaurants

Never been to any Thai place in Garland. Pls let us know if you try :-) We're in Garland a lot.

Garland Restaurants

People seem to like Thai Soon on Beltline (way too sweet for us), Noodle Wave on Spring Valley (which we find just ok) and Sawadika (ok) on Campell in Richardson. There's also Star of Siam on Spring Valley@75. Their food is less sweet.

The Ethnic Grocer

That's EXACTLY what I say to David--"You think the milk, OJ and all the food magically appear in the fridge, huh? Do you think they all have legs and walk into our fridge?!" YOU GUYS are spoiled and take it for granted!

Aldi's

All grocery stores should adopt that system (or attach a GPS). The City of Richardson tried to cite us (and our tenant) for an abandoned shopping cart on the driveway of our rental property for the violation of "storing personal properties outside of storage area"!!!

Aldi's

I've always used my CC at Fiesta (on Spring Valley). I've seen ppl paying $50-100 in cash there and they probably won't have a problem paying in cash. Most ppl on this board are probably not Aldi's target segment.
I was signing a receipt at Kroger until recently. I think Fiesta adopted the new scanner before Kroger did.

The store locations can be searched here. 3 in Garland, 1 in Plano, 1 in Richardson, etc. 140+ locations in DFW

J.S. Chen's, Plano. Comments on Dim Sum Please

They bring deep fried stuff (smelt, squid and shrimp) close to noon so you have to pace yourself for the goodies :-) We love their smelt and squid.

Best places to eat in Dallas

I'm glad you enjoyed their food. Actually, I'm not big on pho and have never had it at SB... but I love beef congee at Huong Ly (in Chinatown). I also like Bo 7 Mon (7 courses of beef) at Huong Ly better than Saigon Block. I was introduced to Huong By by a Vietnamese person.

Aldi's

Today I saw Aldi's getting ready to open on NW Highway near Saturn in Garland. The area is very competitive, full of cheap/discount stores. The sign said it'll open in the spring.

Garland Restaurants

We don't like Quoc Bao's bread at all--too soft. We also don't like Bale's (Arlington), either. That's why I said "regardless of what other ppl say"! We've had many threads on banh mi and ppl have such different opinions. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/616200#4658035

Garland Restaurants

As luniz suggested, I would try EVERY Vietnamese rest. at Jupiter/Walnut if I worked at Jupiter/Miller. It'd take a couple of months ;-) Our most favorite banh mi is found at Ba Le (bakery), regardless of what other ppl say!

Great! How did you have it translated? I took my Vietnamese friend there and asked her to translate that page. She said "Oh, this one is very good" "This one goes well w/ beer" etc. I said, "So what is it?" She said "I don't know how to explain." She was no help...

I thought there were rabbit and frog legs on this page.

Vietnamese food is more than just pho or noodle dishes. Have you ever tried Nam Hua, La Me (Garland), Saigon Block and Huong Ly (Richardson)? Nam Hua's Banh Xeo (crepe) is better than what I had in Vietnam (and elsewhere)! Nam Hua is the very first restaurants our NYC friend goes to as soon as she lands here. (She loves their chicken salad.) Saigon Block is known for its oven-baked whole catfish. I used to live near Little Saigon in SoCal. I'm very pleased with the Vietnamese food in Dallas.

Does Dallas have a China town? If so ...

The name of the shopping center is Chinatown.

Where to buy Sushi grade fish in DFW?

They closed last year, as posted above.

Where to buy Sushi grade fish in DFW?

Korean stores will be better than Chinese stores for fish. Too bad Seabose closed--it was a Japanese fish store (the owner moved to NYC. He was mainly catering to the local Japanese, not knowing there aren't enough Japanese in DFW to support his business. He's still shipping fish to some local customers from NYC.).

Chinese Cream Buns (DFW)

Chinese buns and Korean buns (which are very similar to the Japanese ones) are very different (the bread is different). If gelfling33 likes the Chinese ones, s/he may not like the Korean ones. (I don't like the Chinese ones at all. The Chinese bread is too soft for me.) There are couple of more Chinese bakeries along Greenville besides the one next to First Chinese.

Asian Breakfast (DFW)

BistroB serves Congee and breakfast specials from 6-10am. My favorite Vietnamese congee is at Huong Ly in Richardson, though.
