Also, on St. Marks - believe it or not - Japadog has a pretty good bratwurst

Analysis Paralysis! Help me pick two restaurants for an upcoming NYC trip!

La Esquina is very cool, ambience-wise but it can be a long wait and the food is only so-so. The service is often "too cool" to be bothered but it is a fun place to say you've been.

I would check out Co-op Food and Drink. Great menu, great service, great bar and a funky/elegant mix (casual but it feels more elegant).

Best weekday 8am luxury breakfast?

Wow. As usual, a great list. I would definitely put Maialino at the top of mine.

Northern Spy vs. Back Forty

Northern Spy for me. A little tight on the seating but better food and better service.

Midtown cocktail bars?

If you want an interesting new place, the bar at Noir is great. It is on 50th Street between Lex & 3rd

best burger in midtown?

I agree that DB is excellent. Also, though people might have an issue with it (I guess because its a chain) Hillstone's is very good. I would add that I have consistently had GREAT burgers at Smith & Wollensky's Grill (always great service, too - a nice experience). Also enjoyed Maloney & Porcelli's burger very much but that was a while ago. (Hard to pass by everything else to choose the burger - its a solid menu). Morton's has a very good burger. Any steakhouse, I guess.

Restaurant or dining space for 18 teens near union square

Rosa Mexicano on 18th Street just west of Union Square is a BIG room and, especially at lunch, I think could accommodate a large group

Help. Need ideas for a family visit from out of town

My 2 nieces and 2 roommates are visiting next week. With me, that makes 5. They are all in their mid-20s. 5 people makes it a 'large party'. I want to take them out to dinner on a Friday night in December (the 10th - kind of short notice) I couldn't get into Standard Grill, Little Owl (I know - tiny place) or Maialino. Any other suggestions that would be fun and impress the kids from Minnesota?

Convivio Lately?

Ditto to the other comments. I've been twice recently and the only thing I'd add is that the service is consistently exceptional. I really enjoy my experiences there (and I am not easy to please).

Best Damn Franks

We've beaten this to death (and its all interesting - very good stuff), so I thought I'd sneak in a slightly off-topic mention - two things: a long drive, but I'm a nut for Hot Dog Johnny's (in Buttzville) AND - I know we're talking hot dogs, but I love the brats at Shake Shack. [I will now return quietly to my seat].

Best Churrascaria in NYC

Was at Plataforma last week. I enjoy it, the food is very good (and consistent), the salad bar is impressive (as advertised), and, as an event, its hard to beat. They handle large groups well. But expect a true feeding frenzy - which is part of the fun - but don't expect cozy or intimate conversations. It is festive and very active and you have to be a bit disciplined, I think, otherwise you (and your bathroom scale) will hate yourself for at least 4 days. There were 9 of us, a fairly normal drink order - nothing extravagant - and the total bill, with gratuity, came to $919.

Greek Bakeries

A friend from California is in town and asked me if I knew of any good Greek bakeries in New York. Being ignorant on that particular topic, I told her to wander Astoria. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks.

OK, I'm pretty much batting ZERO in Chowhound, but I have 2 very emphatic things to say: one (and forgive me if this has already been mentioned), for amazing sushi and other Japanese, check out Sushi Yasuda on 43rd btwn 2nd and 3rd. A wonderful experience and among the best sushi in Manhattan (I'd say "the BEST" but people get emotional about their sushi).

Also, I can't let the above passing comment abouit Avbra go uncghallenged. It is a GREAT place with excellent Greek fare and seafood in general. It is my one of my favorites in NYC and certainly the best Greek this side of Astoria...

OK, I'm done. Merry Christmas.

In Search of the best hot dog in the Five boro's

Interesting - I know Rutt's Hut, but didn't know the connection to Crif's (of course). Thanks. I've only had the "Weller" at Rutt's. If you're expanding the area then I would also vote for Hot Dog Johnny's in Buttsville... no? I am TOLD they deep fry them in peanut oil (that's their particular hook). Also like their buttermilk...

Help me remember this italian place near time square

There used to be a Rolls Royce dealership on 49th and Madison - was that what you were thinking of? There are a LOT of Italian restaurants around there... a few good ones are Grifone, Il Postino, and Nanni... there are others, but they're not really near Times Square, so not a lot to go on...

Sarabeth's & Sarabeth's west - overrated or great?

Good - maybe very good - but not great. Maybe I remember it too fondly, but it doesn't seem the same as it once was. The baked goods are still very, very good but the meals aren't extra special.

GOTHAM BAR AND GRILL

Love the place but I ALWAYS have trouble getting a table, albeit in the evening. The bar is a great meeting place, but the difference between dining in the front and the back of the house is significant. Both good, but the restaurant is special.

Recommendations for this weekend, In Town with Clients from LA

The hotels are nice for drinks (the Hudson, the bar at the Mandarin Oriental, etc.) and if the weather is nice, the roof-top at 230 Fifth Avenue - amazing setting. There's a nice rooftop bar at the Library Hotel (Madison & 41st). I agree with the previous post on the Spice Market...
