Can't miss eats of all kinds within 100 miles of the Chapel Hill/Durham area

Southern Season's New Ownership (Chapel Hill)
The inventory is a lot leaner. It's as if the management took a look at products by category, crunched the numbers, and cleaned house -- undoubtedly a good thing for the business. Things like tea and chocolate bars; maybe Vera Bradley stuff, too.
The store still has a great selection, but less clutter. I haven't had the food since the transition.
Where to have Sunday lunch in Raleigh NC?
An all-you-can-drink special? With alcohol? Really?
EDIT: In North Carolina?
where can I buy good stone ground grits?
We at Fullsteam Brewery use Lake Side in our El Toro cream ale. The company doesn't sell in bulk, so we have to buy them two pounds at a time from our local Food Lions. It's very funny to purchase bags and bags of grits at Food Lion. But the price is right, and the quality is quite good!
Triangle Tops?
I believe they tweaked the evening concept because not enough people came to eat off their dinner menu. So they responded accordingly and focused on their core competencies.
RDU quiet special restaurant
How about Cypress on the Hill in Chapel Hill? It's got the local thing going on and I think the volume is respectable.
NC, Triangle: Farmhand Foods and their Sausage Wagon Launch 10/28
I shall pass that idea along. For now, Farmhand Foods will be at Fullsteam on Sundays. We'll revisit that idea when the Wednesday Farmers Markets return to Durham...
NC, Triangle: Farmhand Foods and their Sausage Wagon Launch 10/28
Moving forward....the wagon will be at Fullsteam on Sundays. From talking with Drew, the plan is to offer items for off-site consumption, but that may or may not be happening this first go-around. Cheers!
NC, Triangle: Farmhand Foods and their Sausage Wagon Launch 10/28
The food menu so far...from Drew himself:
-Spicy Italian Sausage with mustard & fennel chow chow:
-sausage is pretty spicy and contains fennel seeds. the mustard is also strong and the chow chow is sweet & acidic. all kinds of flavor in this one.
-Bratwurst with whole grain mustard & Fullsteam beer braised onions:
-pretty mild sausage flavored with coriander, caraway & white pepper. Onions will be slightly sweet & slightly acidic and flavored with whatever beer we go with.
-Smokey Polish sausage with pimento cheese & pickles:
-smoked sausage seasoned with spanish smoked paprika & marjoram. It'll be mildly spicy as will the pimento cheese. .
-Country breakfast sausage with maple spread & roasted apples:
-As you'd expect this one is pretty sweet. The sausage itself is a pretty classic breakfast sausage seasoned with sage, cayenne & pepper. The spread is just reduced maple syrup and the apples are diced to mimic a pickled relish but are pan roasted and finished with brown sugar.
We'll also have a vegetarian option. For now I'm thinking sort of a grilled cheese involving local goat cheese, arugula and fig jam.
Terra Vita in Chapel Hill... Who is going?
Cool! Thanks! I knew that Chef Adam was using our sweet potato beer in his dish, but I had no idea he was pouring samples. That sort of rocks!
Terra Vita in Chapel Hill... Who is going?
Speaking as a brewery owner, I couldn't justify the expenses of attending the event. Perhaps some more established breweries could (or their distributors), but I'd venture to say that the paucity in attendance was due in large part to the cost of participating.
Allen and Sons or Bullocks?
ha! I just copied what mpjmph put! (for the location!). Thanks as well.
Allen and Sons or Bullocks?
Allen and Sons (on old 86). Slightly out of the way, making the barbecue ever so awesome when the plate arrives. More intimate and less of a "institution." A+ barbecue when it's firing on all cylinders. Great Brunswick stew. Just make sure they don't nuke your dessert.
That said, Bullocks deserves support and love, too.
Charlotte help this beer lover out!
Natty Greene's no longer self-distributes. I wouldn't be surprised if Charlotte is still in the mix -- either for distribution or for a third location someday.
For now, it certainly can't hurt to make some noise in the Queen City for Natty Greene's! The beer is great and they're great people. Go North Carolina beer!
Quick trip to Chapel Hill
Come back soon! I clicked on this thread specifically to mention the wonders of Gourmet Kingdom -- tonight my daughters and I feasted on tea-smoked duck, chicken with chili, and beef noodle soup. That tea smoked duck is insane.
Glad you got to visit it. That place deserves all the business it gets (especially when the service is super-pleasant like it was tonight; last time I went the waitress argued with me saying they didn't have a tea-smoked duck with green peppers. Vindicated!)

Specific OBX Questions
note that "happy hour" in North Carolina relates not to discounted al-kee-hol, but food. Glad you're making it to the Outer Banks Brewing Station...but I'd bet the happy hour is 1/2 price apps or something like that. Discounts on booze have to be all day long in our fair state.
Cheers!
Farm To Fork 2010 Triangle NC
For any beer drinkers out there, Fullsteam will be serving samples of several "plow-to-pint" beers and selling pints if you like what you sampled. All proceeds go to the same non-profits that the picnic itself supports.
*disclaimer: I'm involved in Fullsteam, so I won't cry if you take this post down. My eyes might get a little red, though.
So, where will the Obamas eat in Asheville?
He better not drink a freakin' PBR in Asheville! :)
Barbecue Joint (Chapel Hill, NC) closed?
Jim is actually a really nice guy who works his tail off. I like that place.
Asheville Local Drawing a Blank on Visitor-Worthy, Casual Options
Papas and Beer is the first thing that came to my mind.
Indian Food Truck in Durham, NC
Permitting concerns, I believe? Hopefully it will get resolved.
Report - Triangle eats from a couple of Bostonians
Thanks! Good insights...something I'm currently thinking about.
Triangle NC area Top 5
The burger is made from local goat meat. It's not baaaaaaaad!
Report - Triangle eats from a couple of Bostonians
Great write-up! Nice mix of places, too.
Question: so the "no sign on the street" and the limited visibility was a detractor for you? (this question posed without any snark or irony). I'm curious how you reacted to the hard-to-find, in-the-know location. Sounds like you wanted it to be more obvious and readily visible.
