Chipotle Chicken- Too spicy! How to cool it down?

I'm glad I read this board. I just bought a can myself and probably would have used the whole thing too.

King Falafel, Santa Maria

Forget In-N-out -- the patties have shrunk and the burgers are loaded with too much sauce. Try Orcutt Burger - a lot of burger and fries & very good.

Santa Maria restaurants

If you decide on the Hitching Post in Casmalia be sure to call ahead for hours first. If you're looking for a nice place to eat in a nice area then keep driving. This area is a dump-literally. The town continually has hazard waste and contamination issues. SM has many other nearby restaurants located in the Five Cities area. Try Pismo Beach --not a far drive at all.

Santa Maria: light/non-fancy dining?

We had lunch at Sissy's about three years ago. It was good considering the area. My husband had quiche while I had a turkey sandwich. The cafe is across the street from the Chamber of Commerce so that is how we stumbled across it. About six months ago while visiting Vandenberg AFB we decided to return to Sissy's only to find the cafe area was closed but the back portion of the building was open for fine dining. The dining area was so stuffed with small tables and way too many chairs we felt claustrophobic. The kitchen...hmmm not sure where that was because the waiters were coming and going out of the restraurant we thought maybe it was in the cafe area across the outside breezeway. The service though was excellent - our waiter eagerly offered wine pairing from a local wines list. Apparently there was some town big wig a few tables over that the waiter was trying to impress and continually had loud conversation with his party across the room. I thought the prices were much too high for the quality of food. The pork tenderloin medallions tasted like hocky pucks. I would never recommend Sissy's to anyone -- this was a "wanna be" fine dining and it missed the mark big time.

Need a new place in Salem, OR

You're right. After complaining of Ram to my hubby he finally caved in and suggested we try a Thai place. Guess what? A fly was belly up in the noodles...uh, yuck. No preferences really any suggestions would be great. Also in Portland too. Thanks!

Need a new place in Salem, OR

My daughter lives in Salem and everytime we visit her we eat at "Ram". I think the food look great but I don't think they taste as good as they look. However, my husband and daughter loves this place. Is it just me? Anyone been there?

Butternut Squash Gratin: Great Fall/ Thanksgiving Dish

Sounds great! I will have to try your recipe. I'm looking for recipes for butternut squash soup and also a butternut squash sauce to go over noodles or ravioli.

Flo's dressing

I moved away from Phoenix and I miss Flo's peanut dressing. Everytime we ate there I ordered a large cup of dressing to go which keeps in the fridge pretty well. Anyone know how to make it?

Sharing Policy? [moved from Chicago board]

Most restaurants don't frown on special requests including splitting meals. When my husband and I are traveling or I am out to lunch with a friend and know I won't be able to take out a "doggie bag" we sometimes ask to split the meal. The staff is always happy to accommodate and of course we tip as though we've had two meals.

Need suggestions for healthier food choices [moved from General Topics]

Shopping at Whole Foods and Trader Joes are a great way to go. But mostly I would suggest to ease into it if its a radical change for you. Add more organic fruits and veggies to your diet together with using grain dishes with your meals. There are a lot of recipes out there.
