Don's Bogum Korean BBQ and Wine Bar (Review)

As with a lot of restaurants, there are some dishes they are known for that are really good and the rest of the menu can tend to be mediocre. If you want to enjoy your meal here (or anywhere), order the right dishes. I've only eaten here once. I've tried the kimchee chigae (stew) and one serving of kalbi (not cooked at table). The meat was a little tough but the kimchee chigae was THE best I've ever had. There were chunks of pork belly in it that made it deliciously rich. I crave if often and plan to go back for it soon. I'll order a different meat dish next time though.

Seeking GREAT lunch in Brooklyn..Al Di La and what else?

I heard Al Di La just started lunch service. I've been to dinner there a few times and loved it. What time does lunch go until? I'm planning to take a friend there after 2p.

Al di la open for lunch?

Anyone know about this?

The Best Pizza in Brooklyn

Agree! Anthony's arrives soggy in the box. Best to eat there. Try the Romano at La Villa. This holds up well in a box.

Anthony's? Absolutely! Have you noticed in Park Slope (& vicinity), more and more pizza places are popping up? This is a great thing. I still need to try Franny's!

The Best Pizza in Brooklyn

For a slice, John's on 7ave in Park Slope is great, simple pie!
The unlikely family restaurant, La Villa, on 5ave in Park Slope has really great pie. All are great but I would recommend the Speciale, Crispino, and the very original Romano (stuffed pizza w/sausage, fennel, potato).

NoNO Kitchen in Park Slope - NoNO is SoSO

Wondering when that Indian restaurant would finally close (never saw any customers in there), I was happy to see that a new restaurant would take its place.

Last week, my husband and I went to try it out. We were both excited about the much needed new cuisine (New Orleans - Cajun/Creole) to arrive in the Slope. We get there and it's a full house (good sign!). We waited about 5-10mins for a table. Here is what we ordered and my review:

Appetizers:
Alligator and Andouille Sausage - Too fatty for my taste.
Jambalaya Wontons - VERY spicy and tasty but reminded me of really good frozen burrito.

Entrees:
Crawfish Etouffee - I had a taste but the temperature of the food was off. It wasn't hot enough. The right temperature makes such a difference for me. Perhaps it would've tasted better if it were hotter?
Fried Chicken - Loved the crunch and the quantity (four pcs) but in taste, it was just fair.

Dessert:
Banana Foster - I had read about this and had high expectations... Thank goodness we shared this dessert! It was four huge pieces of banana, swimming in a pile of...sauce... I wasn't impressed.

As for the service, it was quite good. The servers all worked together (they share their tips) to cover each other. I thought that was a good system for a new restaurant.

My overall experience was disappointedly just a fair one. I will probably give it one more try but that's it.

Churros!!???

Supposedly, "Doughnut Plant" in LES/Chinatown, Manhattan (379 Grand Street) has great churros. When I heard about their donuts, I trekked there in the dead of winter to find out how fabulous they were. INDEED, they were FABULOUS! I saw a show on the telly about churros and they featured the Doughnut Plant as having tasty churros. Apparently, the owner went all the way down to Mexico to buy an authentic churros maker. You just reminded me to take another trip to this place. I haven't tried the churros yet but have been meaning to. I'm a big fan, too! Btw, it's NOT a fancy joint but well worth the trip.
