Barbque restaurant at Kipling and North Queen

I was driving in the area and saw a restaurant at the north west corner of Kipling and North Queen called Barbque Meats or something like that. Has anyone been? Comments? What is the menu and prices like?

Thanks in advance.

Where can I buy 'sugo di cinghiale'

I don't have a brand since I bought it in Italy from a mom and pop grocerystore. I am looking for any brand of 'sugo di cinghiale' in Toronto, preferably in Vaughan.
Thanks!

Where can I buy 'sugo di cinghiale'

Does anyone know where I can buy 'sugo di cinghiale' (wild boar sauce for pasta) which is from Tuscany? In Italy I bought small jars of it for pasta and just finished my last jar. I have checked all the Italian supermarkets in Woodbridge and haven't found it.

Thanks in advance

Where can I buy the grain spelt?

Thanks everyone for their great suggestions. I bought farro at Seafood Depot yesterday. I love that place! I don't know why I didn't look there first since I went to every other grocery/food store in Woodbridge last weekend.

Where can I buy the grain spelt?

I would like to buy spelt in grain format. I want to make a salad with it along with rucola, pachino tomatoes and baby mozzarella. I had it in Italy and I love it and it is called 'farro' in Italian. I have only found it in flour format and have checked the various Italian grocery stores (Longos, Fortinos, Grande Cheese, Weston Produce) along with Sobeys, Loblaws, etc. I know St. Lawrence Market most likely has it but that is an inconvenient location for me. Any other suggestions from my fellow Chowhounds?

Thanks in advance!

Lampedusa and/or Pantelleria dining

Has anyone been to either of these islands located south of Sicily? I would like to go this July and would be interested in hearing recommendations for dining and what people thought of the islands.

Liberty yogurt alert

I tried Liberty yogurt for the first time last night b/c of this post and the raves it has received by chowhounds. Well.....thank you! I tried caramel dulce de leche and it is fantastic! I bought it at Loblaws and it was $3.29 for 500 grams. Is it widely available as I don't think I have seen it before. I would like to try the other flavors.

Terroni on Yonge

Yes I agree! The place across the street is called Capocaccia after the famous bar in Florence near the Ponte Vecchio. The menu and prices are similar to Terroni (pizza, pasta, salads) but much better and the staff is friendly and couteous. I like Terroni but think it is ok and way overrated and there are many other better places to eat wood oven baked pizza in the city.

Suggestions for eclectic group of long time friends to have dinner Saturday night

Can anyone suggest a place for dinner this Saturday night for a group of old friends from high school who are all in their mid 30s. We will be a gay male couple (live downtown, hip), 2 single females in their 30s who live downtown and 2 married females with small children who live in the suburbs who don't go out too much but enjoy the city. We all eat all types of food and enjoy all ethnic foods. We want a place in the downtown core......say south of bloor between ossigton and parliament. I would like a cool, hip place with mains in the $20-$25 range where we can talk and at the same time be a place for a night out. I was thinking of trying Maro in Liberty Village. What do people think? Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

looking for the BEST.....

The dim sum place you are referring to on Bladwin is called Kowloon at 5 Bladwin Street 416 977 3773 and is good for cheap, quick and tasty dim sum.

Looking for: Ferro Rocher Pocket Coffee

Pocket Coffee is basically a shot of espresso coffee covered in chocolate. It is VERY popular in Italy for Italians who need espresso coffee instantly but can't run to their local barrista for a shot of coffee. I lived in Rome for 5 years and it was verywhere...supermarkets, convenience stores, bars, etc. I haven't seen it anywhere in Toronto or Woodbridge or any other Italian grocery stores. If I see it.....I will share the location.

Here is a description of pocket coffee from their website for those interested (in Italian)

Recommendations for dim sum (with carts) in Dundas/University area

Hi all,

Any recommendations for a place to have dim sum for lunch with the ladies with the carts? We would like a place relatively close to Dundas/University area where we could walk 5-10 minutes. We take less than an hour for lunch usually :-( We have been to Kow Loon on Bladwin but want a more traditional place with the carts. We are new to working in the area and know China Town is nearby but we would like some suggestions from people familar with the area and dim sum.

Thanks!

Baldwin Street

IMO Midi is definately worth it. You can get a quiche and salad and frites for about $10. They always have quiche lorraine and a veggie quiche and sometimes a daily special quiche of the day. It is usually filled at lunch time and I have always enjoyed my lunches there. I recommend it....

Portuguese Food?

The owners of Adega also own Chiado which has a reputation of being one of the best portuguese restaurants in the city.....fresh fish flown in from Portugal, extensive wine list and excellent service. I have been to both Adega and Chiado and enjoyed my meals at both places.

I also think Midi is a great place with good food, pleasant service and good prices. The quiches, open face sandwiches and salads are all great.

Baldwin Street

I work in the area and frequent Baldwin street often. In my opinion the best restaurants are:

La Bodega
Matahari
Caffe La Gaffe

I also like Fujiyama but I don't think it is a great spot to celebrate a birthday.

Bocca used to be good, especially in the summer with the great corner patio but last time I went everything was awful.....food, service, wait time....

Olive ascolane in Toronto?

Thanks for letting me know Noce has olive ascolane on their menu. Have you eaten them there? Were they home made? I have never eaten at Noce.....is it a good and authentic Italian restaurant? Do you recommend it?

Olive ascolane in Toronto?

Thanks for the recipe. I also have various recipes for olive ascolane from my Italian friends grandmothers who used to whip up a batch so expertly from when I loved in Italy! I wanted to try and find them at a restaurant in Toronto to relive the experience of having them as an antipasto, piping hot, fresh out of the pan......

Olive ascolane in Toronto?

Does anyone know a restaurant in Toronto/GTA that makes homemade olive ascolane? These are deep fried stuffed green olives poular in Rome. I have never seen them on a menu in Toronto but miss them from my time living in Rome.

Business Dinner Near Dundas & University

I second Midi Bistro. The quiche is homemade and you get a quiche (choice of a few), frites and salad for about $10. I have been a few times and everyone has always been pleased with food, service and ambience. Best to make reservations as the dining room is small and usually full.

Adega is also good, mainly fish on the menu and a bit more expensive than Midi. Adega is the same owner as Chaido. Adega is also a bit further from the intersection of Dundad and University.

Another option is La Bodega on Baldwin Street, west of McCaul. Not French or Italian as you requested but a nice place for a business lunch in the area.

As for Italian, I don't recomment any of the places on Baldwin. Bocca used to be good but has gone downhill....all of us in the office agree on this.
