An "Italian Crab House" in Rimini: Italy's Best Seafood Restaurant?
Although they might be a little more expensive, Lorenzo in Forte Dei Marmi and Romano in Viareggio offer up Tyrenean catch that is executed to perfection. I have not been to La Puraza but I look forward to doing so.
New Years mid to uptown ish
Jovia is a great place even without Dechelis. "A chef a restaurant not make". The food is better now than in the beginning. Osteria Del Circo is nice. Serafina is always fun.
Le Cirque...........
Just a difference of opinion. Those other superb restaurants still tend to put me asleep with the long tasting menus. I personally think the food is underated at Le Cirque and that it is because they don't have a celebrity chef like they did before. They tend to be a platform for chefs to go on and become celebrities. (Bouley, Sailhac,Khunn, Boulud,Lomonaco,Torres,etc.

JamieLauren- the new Le Cirque is actually real good. Not as precise and presteen as JG but electric and with great food. My guess is you have'nt even been to the new one.
BLT Empire - Not Impressed
Laurent Tounendel is one of the most talented chefs in NY. He was smart and decided to have 'financial glory' instead of 'artistic glory'. I'm sure his family is happy for him. So am I. The food is still great at his places.
Lucca/Florence area in October...where should I eat
Vino Ed? With all due respect, why is every italian dining experience reffered back to Mario Batali. Certain bastions of food were made popular amongst Americans way before Mario even boiled an egg. If anyone has made Vipore famous, it's Cesare Casella who's family own's it. I guess that everything thing italian needs the Batali stamp of approval.

High end in Florence equals Enoteca Pinchiorri. One of the grandest restaurants in the world and the # 1 wine cellar for a restauarant in the world.
Restaurant Near Lucca
Another charismatic place in the vicinity is ristorante 'Montaione' located at the lago di Sorana. This area is world famous for it's cannelini beans. The restaurant has a set menu everyday with some mind boggling homemade pastas done with the local porcini mushrooms,etc. 20 euros a meal.
Ribollita
Osteria Del Circo prepares a variation to the Florentine Ribollita. They pan fry a few seconds like a pancake. This gives it a tasty crust which is eccentuated by special Olive Oil and crushed black pepper.
Festive Italian recs?
Osteria Del Circo is fun and Mrs. Maccioni's specials are always delectable. Medditeraneo on the east side is good too.
My Surprise Visit to Italy Next Week!
L'Ambasciata restaurant in Quistello near Mantova runned by the Tamani brothers is a place that everyone she dine at once in there lifetime. The 'true' pumpkin tortelli are the bomb. Zabaione whipped with moscato d'Asti is breathtaking.
The Hidden Gems of Florence
3 panche is fantastic. It literally means 3 seats. Try the Pappa al Pommodoro or the penne which is done red but an egg is added. Kind of like a hybrid between carbonara and amatriciana.
Sostanza detto 'Il Troia' is the Peter Luger of Florence.
Restaurant Near Lucca
The Duke is his reserve and it has some merlot. I had heard that it was named after his dead brother 'Duca' from many years back. If you go up into Garfagnana, you'll encounter some of the best food ever. La Mora is fancy but fantastic. You after to go a little west to Venanzio up in the Apuan mountains who specializes in the famous Lardo Di Colonnata. Romano in Viareggio is top notch seafood.

Balzi Rossi. The ex chef of Osteria Del Circo in Las Vegas worked there and I went to visit him. Phenomenal meal.

An incredible place to eat from may to September is 'Baffo' detto 'Fuso' near Lucca. You eat in the vinyard next to a farmhouse. House 'montecarlo' wine. Great Farro, salumi, fried rabbit and biscotti and vinsanto. 25 bucks and you have one of the most charismatic meals in the world. Vipore is great. Lorenzo in Forte Dei Marmi is expensive but it is the best.
