Best croquembouche (croc en bouche) or piece montee in LA?

So far we loved both Caprice and Emil's Swiss Pastry. We are definitely not going with Caprice though, as they do not cover the puffs with caramel (traditional), though we do think the custard there was superior. Emil's is delicious and a great price, they are our first choice right now but we are going to try Paris Pastry soon. Maison Richard is over-priced for their croquembouches (in our opinion) so we are going to skip them.

Taco Truck Catering?

We just got confirmation from Taco Zone and they quoted us $650 for 100 people. Three meats, rice, and beans. Best part though is that it's FROM the truck, for three hours.

Taco Truck Catering?

I just saw that! So sad. Thanks for the heads up.

Taco Truck Catering?

I reached someone at Taco Zone and they are supposed to call me back. At least I know how to reach them. I told them I want an actual truck.

Does anybody know about taco catering, from an actual truck?

Hi Chowpatty, I tried the number on the photo you posted but it didn't work. I did, however, find a different number from another photograph that worked! A very nice woman named Patricia said she would call me back about possibly catering from the truck (fingers crossed)! I'm attaching the photo. Thanks!

Ice cream truck for an event?

I didn't try this one! I will bookmark the site though, thank you!

good place for a 90th birthday?

Many thanks to everyone for these great ideas. We ended up booking the party at The Getty restaurant which seemed very nice and a great way for the out-of towners to visit the museum as well.

YESSSSSSS! Taco Zone is one of my favorites! Thank you so much, I really, really appreciate your help.

Does anybody know about taco catering, from an actual truck?

Hello,

I have been researching taco truck catering for an event of about 50-60 people and am looking for an actual truck to come to the venue (Echo Park). I have used Lety's before and while they are wonderful, I am looking for the physical presence of the truck this time. I have seen this twice before in LA, once in Venice in someone's backyard, and once in Downtown, at a loft. The crazy thing is that there are so many trucks in Echo Park, I am just not sure of the protocol, can I visit one and ask them about coming to cater? It seems like they have quite a following (me included) so I don't imagine they would abandon that for a private party.

Thanks!

TACO CATERERS

Does Fernando use a truck or do it from a cart? Thanks!

Taco Truck Catering?

We just used Lety's for an event and loved them. They came with a cart and used tables though, do you know if they will actually do it from a truck as well?

good place for a 90th birthday?

We are actually looking to do something on the East Side as well/instead. That's where most people are staying (nearly everyone if from out of town). Suggestions for the East Side? Thanks!

Ice cream truck for an event?

Never heard of it but it sounds great! I will try that too.

Ice cream truck for an event?

That's great! I found that the meltingpopsicle truck has relocated to New Orleans so I am trying a few things but this is a good option.

Ice cream truck for an event?

Thank you! I emailed them just now.

Ice cream truck for an event?

I have read most of the posts on Chowhound but I thought I might ask again, does anyone know how to hire an ice-cream truck? I am looking to hire for a large-ish event. Thanks!

Best croquembouche (croc en bouche) or piece montee in LA?

That is a good idea. We have plenty of time and tasting cakes on the weekend doesn't sound too bad to me! Thank you.

good place for a 90th birthday?

I am not sure....I am waiting to hear what sort of budget we have but it may not fit the Bel Air, although it sounds lovely.

good place for a 90th birthday?

Yes, thank you!

good place for a 90th birthday?

Wow! Great suggestion. Thank you.

Best croquembouche (croc en bouche) or piece montee in LA?

We are searching for the best place to get our french wedding cake(s) in LA. So far I have the suggestion of Caprice, Maison Richard, and Emil's Swiss Bakery. Any suggestions about what is the best? Thanks!

good place for a 90th birthday?

My Grandma is coming to visit from the Midwest and since all of my family will be in Los Angeles (35-40 people) as well, we want to throw her a nice birthday party to celebrate her upcoming 90 years! She is energetic, fun, and in great shape for her age so she doesn't need any sort of special access or anything like that. I do think she would like some sort of brunch or "tea". So far I was thinking The Inn of the Seventh Ray in Topanga, or the tea place on 3rd, near La Cienega (I have been there once but forgot the name). We do have a large party though and would like to rent a private room. Any suggestions?

best delivery los feliz

Our favorite is Mae Ploy on Sunset and Benton, everyone there is SO nice, they remember our names and details. The delivery is fast and always right.

What is your favorite camping recipe?

So we ended up with a friend who was VERY into camp cooking so we had the best camping meal EVER! He grilled a de-boned marinated leg of lamb on the grill alongside a duth over filled with MIddle Eastern flavored lentils. He also roasted some baby carrots in foil with thyme. It was fabulous! The dutch oven was the best, in the morning we made cinnamon oatmeal in it too. Thanks everyone.

What is your favorite camping recipe?

Yum! YUM! This sounds wonderful, thank you.

What is your favorite camping recipe?

I like to keep things simple but I have been inspired by what some of the chefs have been doing over an open fire on these cooking shows.

Recently I made carne asada, with the right wine, it is fabulous and super simple.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving recipe?

After several years of taking Thanksgiving to Big Sur camping with us we are hosting this year. I love all the recipes my mother makes but am interested in adding a few to my repertoire.

Any faves out there?

Canelé: Good food, shame about the service...

My boyfriend and I just went for a date tonight. We kept it simple and only drank water. He ordered the roast chicken with sweet carrots and corn cake which was nice. And I had the special of fish soup and a side of the sauteed greens. The fish soup was superb, maybe the best I have had. We had the flourless chocolate cake with toffee and ice cream for desert and while the cake was good, the toffee was more of an icing so I was not into it much. Sadly, the ice cream had been re-frozen so we had icicles in it and it pretty much ruined it for us. On the way out though, we were offered a little canele by the hostess which was delicious and a very sweet gesture.

As for the service, it was not impeccable, but it was fast and we did not have a reservation (do they even take them?). I would go again, the orange butter cake sounded good and so did the boeuf bourginion with buttered noodles.

What are the foods you grew up with?

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a Carvel store in ages!

What are the foods you grew up with?

I grew up in Miami with a French father and Norwegian mother.

"potage" that my grandmother in Paris would make by hand with a food mill EVERY night before the main course, delicious.
tuna noodle casserole
my father insisted in "barbeque-ing" totally overdone thin steaks on the grill, my sister and I HATED this.
"salade": green butter lettuce with home-made vinaigrette with shallots.
baked beans from a can with hot dogs in buns
cuban sandwiches and medianoches with my dad when we were out doing errands
my mother learned to make the best "lechon" (pork shoulder marinated in lime, garlic, and onions) I have ever had, AND black beans from scratch.
ratatouille (I saw someone else had this too!)
sunny side up eggs and grilled tomatoes for brunch
soft-boiled eggs with little thin strips of toast for dipping (someone else also had this!)
my mother's best friend was lebanese so we always had home-made "kibbes", "tabouli", "hummus", and "grape-leaves" at their house and she taught my mom to make yogurt in the oven.
tuna sandwiches with just tunafish and miracle whip on small soft rolls from publix for lunches
lefse (i have never been keen on this but it's fun to make)
my grandmother would make rhubard pies from scratch at "The Lake" in Minnesota
cinnamon toast crunch cereal, my sister and I hated breakfast so we were given pure sugar as a bribe.
we were always on the baguette hunt, being in Miami, but we learned to love bagels A LOT (I want one right now)!
spaghetti with ragu sauce, some spices, ground beef, and Kraft parmesean on top
peanut butter and saltine cracker sandwiches (when I was really little)
Carvel icecream cakes for birthdays
McDonalds on road trips
our neighbors were mexican (and my bofriend is now too) but I clearly remember the day that I was invited over to dinner to have chicken rolled tacos there, I could barely believe it. Until that day tacos were Ortega, and they were from a box to be served with shredded cheese, lettuce, hot sauce, corn, and tomatoes.
I hated Shake and Bake but it was served
and LAST but not LEAST:
"Chicken Al Forno", a cut-up chicken in a baking dish, mixed with mushrooms, red and green peppers, tomatoes, and toped with "Wishbone Robusto Italian" dressing and parmesean cheese. We LOVED this but cannot seem to find the dressing anymore. I was served with white rice.
