Cozy Downtown Lounge
I'm looking for a nice bar/lounge downtownish that makes great cocktails. More casual than dressy. Something like The Paddock, which unfortunately is closed on Mondays.
Thanks in advance!
Lawrence & Allen! PIzza and other good delivery!
There's Paul's Tomato Pie on Marlee. They just moved to a new location and it looks like they are just take-out and delivery now, and have closed the restaurant. Here's the phone number: (416) 787-4743.
Where to find kefir culture versus grains or starter kit in GTA???
I'm also hoping to make my own kefir. I was hoping I could use some store-bought product as a culture. Hopefully, someone with experience will respond.
Communal Dining
I read an article in the Village Post about 3 restaurants where communal dining is a part of the fun. Specifically, Guu Izakaya, Swatow and OddFellows.
I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the experience if you have tried either of these 3, or others that weren't mentioned in the article. I love Pizzeria Libretto, which is somewhat communal, and regardless, a very friendly place.
Where to get a great glass of port
This looks awesome - thank you! I will try it for sure.
Any others I should add to the list?
Where to get a great glass of port
Looking for a cozy restaurant/bar for a nice glass of decent port. Location doesn't really matter. A fireplace would be nice.
Any ideas?
Orangeville Restaurants?
I tried the Black Birch Restaurant when they first opened, but haven't been back since (not because of the restaurant; just haven't had the chance). They were buying local meat from the Mennonites and the quality was very good. They are located on Hockley Valley Road, just a hop, skip and jump from Orangeville. If you go, let us know how it is.

Copa Cabana Yonge & Eglinton
This could very well be my worst restaurant experience ever.
We went as a large group with both meat-eaters and vegetarians. We started at the salad bar (which was the only food available for vegetarians). Half of the items were empty at 7:30 p.m. The smoked salmon was so salty as to be inedible. Same with the olives. It makes one wonder if management ever actually eats there. Meat was constantly plonked down in front of us despite repeating over and over again that we were on the offered vegetarian fixed price menu.
Music was unbearably loud with the amp turned up to the maximum. This made conversation impossible. Despite repeated requests to turn down the volume on the amp, we were refused. And we were practically the only people in there. Beer on tap tasted like water. Note - only order bottled beer. Bartender did not know how to make a martini - only sugary premixed candy drinks.
A couple of people tried to escape to the patio for a sort while, but were shoe'd back just in case a customer came along. BTW, the patio is very nice.
There was chaos when the bill came. We had prepaid our meals, but had to try to calculate drinks separately. One bill per table, no exceptions.
The only part that was good was the roasted cinnamon'd pineapple at the end.
We will never go back!

Healthy Butcher - Kitchener
I wonder if some local restaurants will be buying from them. We no longer eat factory-farmed meat, so will look to The Healthy Butcher for restaurant suggestions.
Healthy Butcher - Kitchener
chrisarc:
What a great name for a shop! Do you know where they get their meat from?
Healthy Butcher - Kitchener
Checked out the new location for the Healthy Butcher in Kitchener on the weekend. We had been waiting for a trustworthy source for meat for a long time. It's located in a building with a local produce retailer, health food store and gourmet food shop. The butcher was very helpful explaining the different cuts, grass-fed information, preparation tips etc. We bought meat, organic spices and fresh-prepared lasagne for dinner. Totally awesome! It's kind of like the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker all under one roof. Despite just opening, the selection and service was second to none.
Wild Pacific Salmon
I phoned Longo's and they have product in stock. Good price too. Interesting that it comes from Russia.
Wild Pacific Salmon
Does anyone know where to buy wild salmon? I think it's in season now.
Loblaws used to carry it at this time of year, but I haven't been for a long while.
Thanks!
Tajj Mediterranean Cuisine
Has anyone tried this restaurant in Etobicoke? The website says they opened in September 2006. http://www.tajjcuisine.com/

I am looking for a meeting place somewhere around Milton or West Mississauga. A patio would be great.
I'm willing to go further west if anyone thinks of a place.
Thanks for any ideas!

Are they any good coffee places north of St. Clair?
If you know of any, please let me know.
Thank you.
Coffee to Go
I am looking for a great cup of coffee somewhere between Yonge & Eglinton and the 401.
Will detour for a good brew.
TIA!

TIA!

Looking for a great Greek or other Mediterranean restaurant in either Etobicoke or Mississauga.

Japanese Noodle House/Restaurant
Thank you!
I made a reservation at Ematei. It sounds perfect for everyone in the group. Can't wait to go!
Japanese Noodle House/Restaurant
It will be mostly adults - 2 kids ages 13 and 14. Price is not an issue, but quality is. As for travelling, fairly central would be preferable. If we have to travel, we'd rather go north west, but probably north east is where the food it. Authentic would be preferable too.
Japanese Noodle House/Restaurant
Hi everyone.
I'm looking for a place to celebrate my son's birthday. He's gets to choose, and has requested Japanese Noodles (Udon, Soba etc). We will be a group of 10.
Any ideas?
Thank you!!!
Question about Rowe Farms
I agree with the comment on Rowe Farm. I used to buy from them years ago, but it was never clear to what degree they were natural/organic. My experience with the Butcher was similar - I found the chiken watery.
I am now raising some laying hens, and what I can tell you is that the difference in the price of organic feed versus conventional feed is HUGE. Anyone selling "natural" is not buying organic feed. I try to buy organic chicken directly from a small farmer. My favourite Toronto shop is the Healthy Butcher on Queen Street.
