BEst Meatballs (Italian) Needham, Newton, W. Rox, etc

I don't eat meatballs, but my husband and daughter love the ones at Comella's.

Rosa Mexicano coming to Boston

Great report - thanks for sharing!

Fun - Good Food West Roxbury, Newton area

Porter Cafe in West Rox - great beer selection and great food.

Shake Shack Coming to Chestnut Hill

That's good because it's not opening until next year!

Need North End Restaurant for visiting parents and awful toddler

HA! Love your post, and had to laugh because my 6 yo is also impeccably behaved, and we are way too smug about it. Now #2, who is 3 mths old, better live up to her sister's example... We'll see.

Honestly, Antico Forno seems like it would be perfect to me... We ate there over the summer, and it was absolutely delicious - I was pleasantly surprised - the risotto was outstanding, and I'm very picky about my risotto..

Any word on Grass Fed in JP?

Thanks for the recs - those beet fries were AMAZING as was the chickpea burger. I thought that it was great food, reasonable value, and decent ambiance. We'll definitely return.

DD's Bavarian Cream donut, extinct?

Good to know! What's special about that CVS?

Any word on Grass Fed in JP?

Great review- thanks for sharing. Beet fries and a milkshake - how can you go wrong?

Vee Vee Update?

I love their brunch, but have to say that I've been underwhelmed at dinner - the food tastes underseasoned and just not that impressive, esp. for the price. The owners are not super friendly unless you're a regular...

Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?

Honestly, your service complaints seem a little picky - you're complaining because they ASKED you your preferences? I always get asked - anywhere - if I want my toast buttered, and as someone who can't stand cream, I would appreciate the choice of milk, instead of always having to ask for it.

Rox Diner in Newtonville....anyone?

We really like the West Rox location - nothing fancy, but good delicious food. FYI - if you're in between both locations, the West Rox location appears to have cheaper prices...

Excellent meal at B Street last night

Great report - thanks! I ate lunch there and it was fine, but nothing special, so dinner sounds like a treat...

West Roxbury

Porter Cafe, Phuket... Depends on whether you want takeout or eat in - lots of other great takeout options (e.g., Red-Eyed Pig...)

George Howell Cafe (re-)opening in Newtonville

loved that Coffee Connection! I hung out there in the late 80's.

Los Amigos West Roxbury

We got takeout from there for lunch on Tuesday. I had a chicken burrito - the chicken itself was very fresh, but the burrito itself was missing something - just a little bland. My husband thought the same about his steak burrito. We loved the guac, but the chips were undersalted. Good salsa. I'm VERY excited about Los Amigos, so will definitely try them again, but hope that they get bettter

Best butter in Boston area?

Thanks for the VT rec for butter - I tried and LOVE it!!

Must haves from Blackstrap and Sweet Cheeks BBQ

Not even technically - heart of West Rox :)

Confused & can't pick a restaurant for anniversary night

I'd second Hamersly's - we went there for my birthday last year, and they made the most amazing cocktails... The roast chicken was divine, and a friend who is a vegetarian loved her meal as well.

Your weekend sounds so incredibly romantic and thoughtful that ANYTHING that you pick will amaze her. ENJOY!

Has anyone tried the Red Eyed Pig in W. Roxbury?

Thanks for reporting back!

Did you see this article in the Globe?

Has anyone tried the Red Eyed Pig in W. Roxbury?

I posted this on the SC thread, but it's more pertinent to Red-Eyed Pig, obviously:

We just got our second takeout from Red-Eyed Pig last night and it was delicious. My husband loves the ribs, the mashed potatoes are divine, and for $28, we got an appetizer of hush puppies (excellent), a plate of ribs, beans, collard greens, and a plate of smoked chicken, mashed potatoes, and cheesy spinach. The smoked chicken was a litlte dry, so I can't recommend it, but everything else was great, and their sauces are outstanding (esp. the Carolina vinegar sauce). Cornbread comes with everything.

Must haves from Blackstrap and Sweet Cheeks BBQ

$1.50 surcharge to replace a cold side witha hot side? THAT is cheesy.

Try the new BBQ place in West Rox - Red-eyed pig - we just got our second takeout from there last night and it was delicious. My husband loves the ribs, the mashed potatoes are divine, and for less than the price of your entire meal ($28) we got an appetizer of hush puppies (excellent), a plate of ribs, beans, collard greens, and a plate of smoked chicken, mashed potatoes, and cheesy spinach. The smoked chicken was a litlte dry, so I can't recommend it, but everything else was great, and their sauces are outstanding. Cornbread comes with everything.

Eastern Standard Aging Gracefully

HA! I will add when t I've been there without my daughter, on my birthday last year, they tailored a menu for me to say "Happy Birthday," gave me a free glass of wine and a free dessert, in addition to being extremely attentive. By far the best service that I've had at a large-ish restaurant of its kind...

Eastern Standard Aging Gracefully

Ditto - we were there for Father's Day last year, and they made my daughter (5) a grilled cheese sandwich, off the menu, and couldn't have been more accommodating.

January 2012 Openings and Closings

Los Amigos in West Rox is supposed to open this month - we have high hopes for a good Mexican place!

Know any Pre-made (NOT COOKED) food delivery services in Cambridge? Sometimes called Take & Bake.

I've heard good things about these two services, but have never used either one:

Post Your Three Favorite Things You ate in Boston in 2011

It was recently - it was on 12/13. That's interesting that they have changed chefs... A bummer!

Post Your Three Favorite Things You ate in Boston in 2011

hto44 - I had that risotto at Porter Cafe and it was totally subpar - very soupy and not like risotto at all - must have been there on a bad night :(

Pasta at Coppa (no longer on the menu)
Chocolate croissant at Canto 6
Mushroom tagliatelle at Alta Strada

Great thread!

Going to Coppa for the first time! What to order?

At the moment, I'm not an adventurous eater (due to pregnancy - and I don't eat red meat anyway), but I have LOVED my meals at Coppa. I highly recommend: marinated cauliflower app, marinated mushrooms, any of the pizzas, Cavatelli di Pollo, and Manatelle e Astice... I'd recommend getting small plates for the pastas so that you can share.

I wish that I could give you cocktail advice, but I've only eaten there during this pregnancy - in three weeks I'll be able to give you a better report! :)

Enjoy!

Is there any good egg nog left in Boston?

Second that - I can't stand egg nog (no judgements!) and LOVED the High Lawn egg nog - we got it at Allandale Farm.
