Juni, Betony or The NoMad?

Oh, I should also mention that I read the recent Juni v. Betony thread which was helpful. Looking for thoughts from people who have recently been to all three. If you had to choose one, which one and why?

Juni, Betony or The NoMad?

Planning a birthday celebration (for myself) in March, and have narrowed it down to these three. Been to the NoMad (and love it), but not yet to Juni or Betony. We regularly frequented Sho and love Shaun Hergatt's cooking, so leaning towards Juni, but Betony's menu (and reviews on this Board) keep beckoning me. There will be two of us, and price is not an issue. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Huevos Rancheros

The BEST huevos rancheros in Manhattan (unfancified), IMHO, are at Tulcingo del Valle in Hell's Kitchen. We moved from HK to Brooklyn a few years ago and still travel in on weekends to have their version. So good.

Marylander looking for proper steamed blue crabs in BK

I haven't been, so can't vouch for the quality, but I saw a sign out front the other day that said Tuesdays they have Blue Crabs as a special.

Mexican breakfast or great brunch near Grand Central

If you want authentic Mexican breakfast, are willing to travel across town, the BEST huevos rancheros in the city, IMHO, are at Tulcingo del Valle on 10th Avenue (near 47th Street). They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. I agree that there is very little "good" Mexican in Midtown East.

Lunch Near Marriott Marquis

Vitae, on 46th betw. 5th and Madison Avenues, is a short walk from your hotel, and is very good. I would describe it as New American with Italian leanings. They have a $30 lunch pre fixe, so you could definitely stay in your price range. It is a few steps up from a place like Marseille in terms of quality of cuisine, and more affordable than other neighborhood options like DB Bistro Moderne. Good luck!

Roberta's Tasting Menu tonight, June 6

When we were there earlier this week, they had the wagyu (both carpaccio-style and cooked), but (sadly) did not serve the duck or the squab. Instead, we had a fantastic, unctuous and fatty lamb and a poulet rouge. They did not offer to substitute pizza for the cheese course, but we did not ask, so I suspect that they would honor your request if you made one.

Top 5 restaurants to try in Brooklyn (or 10)

We are big fans of Convivium Osteria -- it is in our regular rotation of neighborhood go-tos. Plus, they take reservations through opentable. If you are looking for something in Park Slope, I would highly recommend it.

I also liked, but did not love, my recent meal at Applewood. My SO keeps wanting to go back (he was a bigger fan than I was), but nothing is pulling me back there.

Had a very good meal last week at a newish restaurant in Cobble Hill/Carrol Gardens called Battersby. The apps and mid-courses were phenomenal, but the entrees were just "good." The place is very small though, and doesn't take reservations, so probably would not be good for Pan's current search.

restaurant for this THURSDAY- want to impress my midtown friends

I second the DBGB and Spotted Pig recs, and would throw in a few more (although none of the following are asian fusion): dell'anima, Joseph Leonard, and La Esquina. Also had a great meal recently at Balaboosta.

Edible Baby Shower Favors

Anyone know of any bakery/individual that does unique/upscale/hound-worthy edible baby shower favors? Or thoughts on any foodstuffs that would go well in a gift bag for a baby shower? My shower is in two weeks, and I don't have any good leads yet. Thanks.

We got a car. Where do we go?

Second Pacificana for Dim Sum and Al di La for Italian. Would also throw in Convivium Osteria in Park Slope. Other BK places on my list (but that I haven't made it to yet -- just moved from Manhattan to BK) are: Vinegar Hill House, Fatty Cue, Traif, Brooklyn Fare, Prime Meats, Good Fork, and Tacos Matamoras.

Ethnic food delivery to my hotel next week

One place to consider (although I am not sure whether it delivers to your location): Tulcingo del Valle. Fantastic, authentic Mexican food on 10th Avenue betw. 46th and 47th Streets. If they don't deliver to your hotel, you could order by phone and pick it up on your way to the hotel.

Where to Grab Picnic Lunch on Way to Pride Mountain Winery?

Thanks, all. Mapquest says to go 880, but if there is a better (more scenic) route with a great place to stop for food on the way, I am open to suggestions. We were thinking of picnicking at the winery, so anyplace between Los Gatos and the winery would work, although I guess closer to the winery is preferable.

Where to Grab Picnic Lunch on Way to Pride Mountain Winery?

We will be heading up to Pride Mountain on Saturday, and want to grab sandwiches/etc. for a picnic lunch. Any suggestions of good places to pick stuff up? Will be coming from the south (Los Gatos).

Thanks in advance!

Authentic Mexican Breakfast in Park Slope?

Does it exist? Just moved from Hell's Kitchen to Park Slope and missing/craving the Mexican breakfasts we used to get every weekend at Tulcingo del Valle. Not looking for the pseudo Mexican, modern Mexican or Tex-Mex stuff that is all too prevalent in NYC (like, Los Pollitos or even Chiles and Chocolate) -- craving the real deal. Is there anyplace in Park Slope that is even comparable to Tulcingo or Tehuitzingo in HK?

If it doesn't exist in Park Slope -- suggestions for places that serve authentic Chilaquiles or Huevos Rancheros in Sunset Park (or elsewhere) would be greatly appreciated. Willing to travel for authenticity.

Thanks much!

Bridal shower-BRUNCH spot?

We had somewhere around 16-20 people. As for the price per person, I am sorry to say that I don't know for sure. My sister threw the party for me, and I wasn't involved in the planning or paying. I believe that, all in (with open wine bar and generous tip), it was approx. $2,000 (maybe a little less).

Bridal shower-BRUNCH spot?

Had my bridal shower last year at Casellula. They are not open at brunch/lunch time, so we had the whole place to ourselves. Great wine and cheese pairings, together with hot foods as well. Would highly recommend it!

Barcelona food itinerary

Thanks! So far, we only have one reservation -- Cinq Sentits (tasting). Your advice on this board has helped us immensely. This should be a fantastic gustatory week!

One question -- and sorry for hijacking this thread -- if we are doing Cinq Sentits, should we also try a place like Alkimia (or other)? Or will the experience be too similar?

Thanks again!

PBSF -- what places would you recommend for your tapas/pintxos hopping in El Born? Is there a particular night of the week that you would recommend doing the crawl? We will be there this coming Friday through next Wednesday night. Thanks!

Been to Annisa since the reopening?

Any recent reports on Annisa? Specific recommendations? Finally got a reservation (for tomorrow night) and hoping for some guidance.

Last time we were there -- pre-fire -- we enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings. Wondering whether we should do the same or whether the new menu is better a la carte ...

La Grenouille or Marea tonight?

I haven't been to La Grenouille, but love Marea. It is ALL about what you order at Marea. I adore the ricci, the astice and the sweetbread/veal ravioli pasta.

I have also heard that they have a fantastic steak at Marea -- and, after reading your past posts and knowing your general love for all things beef, I would love to get your take on it.

Either way, looking forward to your review.
