Which NOLA Steakhouse

+1 for Mr. John's. Currently the best steakhouse in town. However, I have yet to go to Doris and am very intrigued.

Mopho and Lucky Rooster

Namese on Carrollton opened around the same time as MoPho but has not received the same press/PR. But, the menu, while more traditional, is overall much better and very reasonable. Better choice if you are in Mid City for sure.

Where to find "clean" oysters in NOLA?

Pascal's Manale has an oyster bar in their front room. Always cold and delicious. IMHO the best oysters and experience in NOLA. The French Quarter mainstays (Acme, Felix) have moved away from quality in order to meet the needs of the tourists.

Italian in N.O.

+1 for Maximo's, Irene's, and Italian Barrel. All also in the Quarter. Maximo's is a great overall experience and is on the spicy side. Italian Barrel is similar to an Italian cafe experience, appetizers are great and main courses are large. For old-school Italian in NOLA, Vincent's or 1179. 1179 is more expensive but also more intimate and definitely quieter.

Acme vs Pearl vs Casamentos

It is hard to disagree with Casamento's for all things oyster, but allow me suggest Pascal Manale's for a raw oyster bar experience you will not forget. The raw bar is in the front room, with the liquor bar, so you don't need to eat dinner there or have a reservation. Oysters are always cold and usually large. You won't regret it!

Looking for great steaks!

If you want a traditional steakhouse steak place, then Mr. Johns is the best option. Maybe the best steak I ever had. If you are willing to be a bit adventurous, then La Boca is the place to go. Last, if you want to feel like a local, go to Charlie's. The first two are better though.

Best Happy Hour - Hermes Bar @ Antoine's or Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse?

I would also consider Patrick's Bar Vin. It is on Bienville between Bourbon & Royal. It is a series of rooms but they have a nice charcutrie platter and they are very friendly.

Trip Report: Liuzza's By The Track, Domenica, The Joint, Drago's and more

Thanks for a great review. A few notes: if you go back to The Joint, try their salad. They have a smoked tomato dressing that may be the best item on the menu. Also, please do not promote Cake Cafe too much or it will cease to be a wonderful secret. Last, we also went to Bennachin recently for the first time and our experience with the service was similar but not with the food. I encourage you to give them a second chance, everything we had was great, which included the Jama Jama, Domoda, Shipa Shipa, and Cope Ni Cone. Thanks!

Boucherie, Rue 127, or La Crepe Nanou?

Of these three, your best choice is La Crepe Nanou. They have a daily fish special, mussels appetizers, the already-mentioned crawfish crepes, and some very nice appetizers such as french onion soup, salade tropicale, and cheese plates.

The Company Burger

Went on Friday night (in the rain) and everything was great. The burgers were delicious, the fries were fresh, and everyone went home fat & happy. Also, the service was great. Food came out fairly quickly, the condiment bar was well stocked, and the owner, Adam, was very nice and seemed genuinely interested in our opinions. We will go back.

New Orleans specialties near Intercontinental (St. Charles & Poydras)

Some other recommendations:

Dragos, at Hilton where Poydras meets the river. They serve char grilled oysters that are arguably best in the city. I cannot recommend anything else there. Acme has a similar product, but not as good.

Lil Dizzy's, in the Whitney Hotel at Poydras and Camp. Very good New Orleans down home cuisine, also quite reasonable. They also have good breakfasts.

Cochon, at Tchoupitoulas and Andrew Higgins. It is about the same as a walk to Galatoire's. Cochon is like nouveau Southern, but very creative and the ingredients are very South Louisiana.

Calas

+1 for Elizabeth's. In addition, they have a delicious breakfast menu.

Parkway Bakery

My understanding is that they will not put oysters back on the menu until they can source them locally. I think all the oysters we are getting in NOLA right now are not from Louisiana waters.

Crawfish still available?

I will assume you are coming in for Jazz Fest this weekend, so here are some crawfish places near the Fest. K-Jeans on Carrollton & Bienville is on the streetcar line to City Park. I have been there 4-5 time this season and their crawfish are a good size with a back end spicy kick. very tasty. Another option is Broadview Seafood on Broad near Esplanade. Haven't been there this year but they tend to be citrus-y and a bit smaller.

As for breakfast, I urge you to consider Dante Cafe at riverbend. You can take the St. Charles streetcar there and it beats Eat and Stanley easily. Another option is Elizabeth's in the Bywater, lots of food and very tasty but you will need a car or a cab.

Have fun!

Mr. B's or Pascal Manale

The raw bar at Pascals Manale is a classic and kind of unique to New Orleans. However, in an overall comparison between these two restaurants and it is Mr. B's. Every time. Either way have a great time!

Antoine's - new bakery

They do not have their own pastries, baked goods as of yet. They do plan to make their own in the future. Pastries are good but a bit pricey, especially considering that Croissant D'Or is down the street with better prices and superior product. But if you have to choose between Antoine's Annex and Cafe Beignet, then the choice is clearly Antoine's.

Esquire's Top 59 Places For Breakfast in U. S.....NOLA HAS 5..............

Also agreed. I think that other options, such as Croissant D'Or, Elizabeth's, Surrey's, Ruby Slipper, even Blue Plate are better options.

Esplanade Avenue Walking distance restaurants

You can walk into the Marigny from there and there are plenty of choices. Feelings Cafe (dinner) , L'il Dizzy's (breakfast or lunch) , Marigny Brasserie (any meal), Snug Harbor (dinner) , Cake Cafe (breakfast & lunch) are all good choices. Frenchman Street has plenty of options for food and music.

The very BEST King Cake?

Croissant D'Or in the French Quarter also makes them. They are delicious, at least as good as those from Maurice's.

Best Po' Boys - The Quarter

Acme or Johnny's will meet most requirements, and if one refuses to leave the Quarter they must compromise. Oh what a city that someone has to compromise with the Acme Oyster Po Boy or the Johnny's Roast Beef (don't forget the Judge Bosetta (sp?))!

I would also include the corner stores such as Verdi Mart, Matassa's, and the bright yellow place. They also make mean and plentiful po boys!

Best Seafood in NOLA

All three have been mentioned already, but my votes go for Clancy's, Rio Mar, and Bourbon House. None will disappoint.

IMHO, No one restaurant has it all - Your best menu items in Nola

1. Oysters en Brochette from Christians or from Bourbon Oyster House (when they first opened)

2. Chargrilled oysters. Drago's does a great job but Acme is satisfactory if they are easy on the cheese.

3. BBQ Shrimp from Mr. B's

4. The Godzilla crab dish at Jacque-Imo's goes over very well with my children

5. Cochon De Lait Po Boy from Walkers

Italian Hoagies in New Orleans

Cochon Butcher has an Italian-style sandwich called The Gambino. It is not exactly the same, but all their meats are made in-house and it was quite a tasty sandwich. Better than the comparable sandwich at Steins.

Happy Hour & Other Delicious Bargains

Very reasonable lunch prices at The Napoleon House. Bacco for lunch is good, but what makes it great are the 10 cent martinis.

Happy Hours are legal here. Heck, open containers are legal here. Many bars in the CBD and Warehouse District have great happy hour specials. Lucy's and Vic's Kangaroo for example.
