Post Pizza Fairfield

My wife and I accidently found Pizza Post when it in opened in 1994. We had just moved up to Fairfield and previously lived in Stamford where we were regulars at Nick's Pizza in Glenbrook. We noticed the pizza crust was the same at both places. Andrew, the owner of Pizza Post, told us his family runs several pizza restaurants in Fairfield County, like Rowayton Pizza. Our favorite pie is the sausage and eggplant. The eggplant is light fried, while the sausage is homemade and not oily.

Pizza Post is a good choice if you're in the Tunxis Hill area.

Where can I find a 5 kg jar of Nutella in Montreal?

Have you checked out Walmart in your area? They had the 5 kg jars at Walmart in Vaughan, Ontario when I was there back in July. The price was around 35 CAD.

best corned beef to buy?

I second the O'Reilly brand at ShopRite for $1.88. I bought two flats, soaked in water for 48 hours and then made pastrami on the smoker. Very lean and tender.

I also bought two Hummel points marked down to $1.40 / lb so will see how they compare.

Burger along Merritt/Rt 15 or I-91 between Norwalk-Hartford?

How about Merritt Canteen in Brideport? Its about 2 miles from Exit 48 of the Merritt. On par with Rawleys. They serve Hummel dogs and very good chili.

Smoking Bacon [split from New England]

That's sound like a good recipe, especially the maple!

I did it for the first time last weekend, so I used a brine solution of salt, sugar, pink salt, and pickling spices. Smoked with apple wood chunks for 7 hours at 160F in my Weber smoky mountain. Above is the pic of the end product.

Smoking Bacon [split from New England]

(This post was split from http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/766331 -- The Chowhound Team)

Not to thread crap, but its easy to smoke bacon at home if you can purchase whole pork belly and have access to a Weber charcoal grill.

Has anyone eaten at Greer's lately? DH and I will be visiting Lake Compounce next week so we are considering heading over to Greer's afterwards for a quick bite.

Soba or Dim Sum in New Haven CT??

Thumbs down on York Street Noodle House. My family and I ate there in October and we're not impressed. I thought the food was very plain, simple, and uninspired. We felt we could do a better job making the noodle dishes at home. But I guess its an affordable place if you're a college student looking for cheap food.

Dim Sum - Peking Duck Fairfield and Westchester

I recommend the Peking duck at Central Seafood in Hartsdale. They serve portions of roast duck during dim sum but would suggest ordering it as a separate entree (costs around $30). Its the real deal. They carve an entire crispy duck at your table and serve it on pancakes along with thin strips of scallion and hoisin sauce. I think we ended up with around 10-12 portions from one duck.

Sycamore Review - Bethel, CT

I agree with all the previous posts. We drove up from Fairfield yesterday, on the way to Kent Falls. All three of us had Dagwood burgers with bacon, a basket of fries (cooked well done) and root beer floats. The burger patty had a nice flavor and wasn't too greasy. We'll be coming back again.

What's the deal with Duchess in Connecticut?

The 99 cents hot dog special is good at all the Dutchess restaurants. I live in Fairfield and had three for lunch today. They use Hummel natural casing dogs, so its got a nice snap. The toasted bun also adds a nice touch.

Noodle joints near Mott?

I'm going to be in Chinatown tomorrow and want to pick up some beef chow fun for my kids dinner. Any recommendations for Catonese style noodles near Mott Street? I'm going to Big Wong on Mott for the barbeque. I can pick up the noodles there, but am interested to hear of other places nearby. TIA

I like Michael's on Cove Road. Traditional thin crust.

BTW, I live in Fairfield, so would recommend the white clam pie if you go to Pepe's

Scranton - recs for Friday dinner?

Can anyone please recommend any family style restaurants in the Scranton area? We’ll be staying at the Comfort Suites near Sno Mountain on Friday evening, so we’re looking for a place that can accommodate around 6 adults and 3 children (ages 7-10). No Asian food please. Thanks!

Risotto in a Rice-Cooker? Oatmeal?

I eat Irish oatmeal everyday and have good results if you soak it overnight (boil the water, remove pot from burner, dump in the oats, and then cover). The next morning it should take about 10-15 minutes to cook, with minimal stirring. Is that too much work?

Chinatown: where to buy fresh rice noodles?

Thanks for the rec regarding the northeast corner of Grand & Bowery. I'm not too familiar with the area, so I was heading east on Grand and ended up getting the noodles from a very small store between Grand and Elizabeth. Also run by two ladies. The cost was 40 cents per bag. I then walked another 50 feet and found the tofu store on the corner of Grand and Bowery. I'll hit that store next time I'm in town!

Chinatown: where to buy fresh rice noodles?

My kids like to eat fresh rice noodles, the wide kind that are rolled up and are about 10 inches long. My in-laws buy them in Philly’s Chinatown. You need to steam them before eating. Is this a common item in the refrigerated section in most Chinatown grocery stores? If not, can someone please recommend a store? I’ll be in the area tonight. Thanks!

Any decent Pho in Bridgeport?

I know there are some small Asian food markets off Park Ave, south of Route 1. But is there any decent Vietnamese food?
