ISO best meatball sandwich in Toronto.

Found an Angelo's downtown at York and Queens Quay (Angelo's 2?), I think it's the same owners as it sounds like the same place based on the comments above regarding friendliness, samples, size and toppings. The meatball sandwich was huge - can't wait to go back.

Spice Route--feedback?

actually, the sad thing is that the margin on drinks is usually higher than food. Yeah, I would have just left and called my friends to meet me on the street. lol.

Where can I find Mini-Hamburger (aka Sliders) Buns?

are you going for authentic slider (a la white castle) or just mini burgers. if just mini burgers, then the dinner rolls are a good option, or try "pan de sal" which is found in most asian/filipino markets. try remely's on eglinton.

If you're going for authentic slyder style, then the only place i've seen the buns is via sysco or other suppliers, and if you have friend in restaurant, have them order for you. you don't want them too bready or you ruin the "slide" and i hope you aren't bbq-ing the burgers - ya gotta steam fry them.

Mimi, where are you?

wow. I miss Mimis!!! Where else can I get an El Vez omelette? (chili!!!)

Chinatown - Let's seperate the winners from the losers

I had always recommended Pho Hung and I never really cared if the service was good or not, In fact, I usually expect the service in chinatown type places to be "rushed" and not overly friendly.

But on the last couple of visits I've had extremely rude service. Maybe cuz I'm Asian myself and they figured they could treat me differently from the non-Asian customers? As I sat there, wondering if I should walk out (which I didn't since I was hungry and my food was coming), I noticed the same "waitress" talk in the same rude manner to another Asian table, but then changed her attitude for the Canadian couple a few tables down. I was like WTF? But then my food came and I was like... meh... whatever. I'll just give her a crappy tip, but considering where I was, she probably wouldn't even notice that it was a crappy tip.

Malasadas

tried it at Caldense and it was okay, and they only offered the lemon filling. They only had a few there as I guess there's not much demand for them. I was really craving chocolate.

Pandesal in Toronto?

Is there any bakery closer to downtown that carries pandesal.

In Hawaii, I found that Portuguese sweet buns was an okay substitute, so I'm guessing I can find something on College, but still, there's nothing like pandesal.

White Castle

Aw yes, I remember the Queens Blvd location as well. There was a pool hall near there that we used to to back in the 70s/80s. Yeah, I remember it being a bit of a sketchy atmosphere in Queens, but I don't get the comment about the 8th Ave location. Nothing wrong with the area, and I'd prefer that then eating at the Papaya hot dog place up the street. I guess that's another thread though.

Living Well

#10 - Shrimp Dumpling Noodle Soup.

Cincinnati Chili (Yes, again!!!)

can't remember if I use garlic at all, but I use 4 or 5 whole "cloves" (not even sure what cloves are, but I bought them in the spice aisle), and definitely have an ounce of chocolate.

Cincinnati Chili recipes?

You forgot about having it over those mini-hot dogs. Coney Dog style.

Living Well

the fourth was onions, fifth is beans. My fav is coney style.

Living Well

Damn, love the Cinci Chili. Skyline!!!

In n' Out Burgers - Why? [moved from L.A. board]

Yeah, I didn't get it. My friend was raving about how they had them in Cali, so decided to try it on a visit to Vegas. After a $15 cab ride to get there, we ordered up, and damn, I had flashbacks of Dairy Queen burgers. Yeah, nothing special and I have to agree with JB - they need to work on their bun to meat ratio.

White Castle

I think most people have lived out portions of that movie. I don't think I've ever had that same craving for McDs or BKs.

Also, I am from Canada where there is no WC (but they did film the movie just outside of Toronto, and actually built a fake restaurant up here -- I would have freaked if I saw that driving around), but also when I'm in the States, it's always a bit of a hunt to try and find one. I got NYC covered, but if I visit any other eastern or midwest city, it's always a check to see if they have WC there.

White Castle

Steam Grilling in the WC sense is just placing their meat on top of a bed of onions. It's actaully more like pan frying, except the food is not sitting in the grease, but on top of the onions. (Thus why many people call Slyders greasy). Okay, so yeah, I guess that is steaming, but it's not like they're being placed in a steamer and being steamed like dim sum. Hmmm, so I'm guessing dim sum is not on your list of places to go, as they do tend to steam a lot of meats also.

Actually, "steam grilling" is probably a lot healthier than other fast food places where the food is fried and actually sitting in the grease collecting all those juicy trans fats.

White Castle

My first White Castle experience was on Jamaica Ave in Queens, NY, back in the 70s. Fell in love with them. To this day, my first stop in NY is always a meal at White Castles, but now it's the one on Rockaway, and when I'm in the city it's the one on 8th(?) ave. (Nasty!!!)

I keep it simple, just four to six Cheeseburgers and some fries, and a large DIET coke.

Still get the crave to this day. Unfortunately I'm in Canada.

best breakfast joint in Toronto?

went to Cora's once, and won't be going back. Service was awful, place was a mess, and food was blah.

best breakfast joint in Toronto?

Mimi's on Bathurst, north of Queen.

St.Louis Bar & Grill?

Chicken Drumsticks!!! I'm starting to prefer these over the wings.

Chinatown - Let's seperate the winners from the losers

I heard that Kim Hoa closed? Too bad cuz they had good BBQ and good hot n sour soup.

Lee Garden? Yeah, I don't get it. Recommended by a lot of non-Asians who generally are eating General Tso's and Cantonese Noodles. Seemed to be a lot of 905 types as well. (not hating on the 905, just an observation)

Good Mexican Food in Toronto?

Wow, never knew the guy was from Mexican Town? I'll have to drag some people down to check it out.

good ethnic delivery near skydome?

Thai Princess on King. Not sure about Indian, so waiting to see what replies you get.

Malasadas

Does anybody know if I can find Malasadas in Toronto? Someone had told me that a portuguese bakery on Dundas or College had them, but not sure who told me that, and where the bakery was. If you don't know, they're portuguese sugar donuts, that are stuffed with different fillings or plain. There's a lot of discussion on boards discussing Hawaii, but not much here. I'm craving.

Malasadas in lower 48

Apparently you can find malasadas in Toronto's Little Portugal, but I have not confirmed this myself.

Hawaii

Okonomi Cuisine Kai - great place. Kind of hidden around the corner of Walmart in Honolulu. Keeaumoku St?

Beer? Longboard Ale tasted okay, but not sure I tried anything else that was Hawaiian.

If it's in your budget, I would recommend going to the Kahala Mandarin for a night. Well worth it.

Go to Leonards for some malasadas. Great portuguese donuts.

Also, I agree with Kau Kau and the White Shrimp Truck. (East side of the island), but you should also look for Keneke's too. A great truck stop with good Chicken Adobo and all your regular plate lunch stuff.

Keg Sliders

The only true mini-burger is a White Castle. Since the 1920s, the original fast food burger joint, and the original fast food burger. All others are just imitations of the "slyder" and some of them don't even slide. I've got the craving!!!

Maro Supper Club

Had a great time there, but wasn't there for the food, just some drinks. Place looked awesome and staff were all friendly. Open kitchen looked good, and with Adjey back there I'm sure the food was good. It looked good.

Canadian Version of "Burgers to Eat Before You Die" ?

The only time I've truly enjoyed an "expensive" burger was travelling in the middle east, and after a couple of weeks of eating hummus and pita and schwarma and kebab, i really needed a "western" burger. So I stopped at a Hilton, paid $20 US for a half pounder. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had (even if it was a bit dry).

Keg Sliders

Sliders should be dripping with onion juice as they are steam fried and not grilled. (a la White Castle) These sound like mini-burgers to me, NOT sliders.
