Nice cheapish place to eat around the Arclight in Hollywood

I've always enjoyed Vivoli Cafe on Sunset (http://www.vivolicafe.com/), about a ten minute drive from the arclight. Really tasty, huge portions, and very friendly staff.

where to buy local meat, dairy in LA environs

I'm also curious as to why? I've purchased Organic Pastures products before (milk, cream, butter) and always been pleased with quality. I'm also impressed with the strides they take to ensure cleanliness and humane treatment of their cattle.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Craving

Has anyone mentioned Clementine in Century City? see www.clementineonline.com
Their chocolate chip cookies are LOADED with chocolate. Crispy, gooey and chewy -- everything a c/c cookie should be. :-)

Anyone know where to buy M&M's by color in the area?

I've actually seen them at my local CVS... congratulations to your sis. :)

Frozen Fage yogurt

Hi Fleur, CatePoole linked to this recipe above, but it appears to be broken in her post...

http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/...

I tried this receipe (with Fage) in my trusty cuisineart icecream maker and LOVED it. Make sure to give the yogurt some time to soften up when you take it out of the freezer as mine came out rock hard at first. Served it with caramelized rum bananas, fresh strawberries and toasted almonds. yum.

Looking for restaurant near Philadelphia Airport

Hello, does anyone know whether L'Angolo is something feasible for a meal in about an hour to an hour and a half? Is the service speedy enough for that? We'd love to go, but won't have much time to burn between arriving in Philly and having to double-back to the airport to pick up another traveler.

Napa Restaurants

I should preface this with the fact that we have never dined at the French Laundry, but our hands-down favorite for innovative, beautifully-presented food is the Farmhouse Inn in Forestville. http://farmhouseinn.com/restaurant.html They recently had a much-deserved glowing write-up in Gourmet mag, and - for what it's worth - scored a 27 Zagat.

We also love Cafe la Haye on the Sonoma side for more casual dining. http://www.sterba.com/sonoma/lahaye/ It's a crowded little floor (with - I think - 35 seats?) and the food is amazing.

If you are out tasting on the Napa side, there is a buzzing little gourmet shop in Healdsburg (I think the flagship is in Oakville) called the Oakville Grocery. http://www.oakvillegrocery.com/stores... They make delicious sandwiches/salads and carry fun local cheeses and wines.

Hope that helps!

Great food near Philly Airport?

Great food near Philly Airport?

Humm... I feared as much. Thank you both for your suggestions. How about, as an alternative, really late-night take-out? I'm talking like 10:30-11 PM? The problem is that we are flying into Philly, then have to double back two hours later to pick up another traveler. Not enough time to leave the airport, and though it's tempting just to leave our buddy stranded for the sake of good food, if there are any other alternatives, I'd love to hear them. :-) Thanks again, guys.

Great food near Philly Airport?

Hello... I'm looking for a great place to eat near the Philadelphia Airport. I'll have about an hour and a half to kill in the area, and would love any suggestions... I know it's probably an impossible task, but do you know of any good eats either in, or near the airport? We aren't picky, just discriminating. ;-)
Many thanks!!

I am so glad to hear that mine was a fluke experience -- looking forward to going back for round 2. :) Thanks for your responses!

closest i've found so far is Literati Cafe at Wilshire and Bundy, but their results can be variable depending on who is working the machines. I usually stick to espresso drinks, though, so can't vouch for their coffee.

So do I, liu! I was so disappointed, as I'd heard such great things! To be fair, the food was awesome, and they served a great latte. Has anyone else noticed how hard it is to find a non-bitter latte in L.A.?

Everyone must go to Sushi Masu at least once!!

Sadly, in a way you are correct, Pei -- I bow to your infinite wisdom. I think the problem here is that Masu's quality has lately been slipping. I don't know why, it makes me sad -- his really was once our favorite sushi hangout -- but we have since moved on to other sushi bars in the (relative) area. Our new favorites are Kiriko (on Sawtelle) and Izayoi (downtown). The latter is actually an izakaya place, but Hiro behind the bar serves up fabulous sushi dishes, as well. I heartily recommend either, or both of them. The omakase at Kirko is inventive, delicious, and beautifully presented.

Little Next Door

Am I the only one who experienced serious snoot here? The food was fantastic -- we ordered a grilled vegetable sandwich, beet salad, and quiche (very authentic) -- but the service was horrible! Half of our order never came in the hour we spent there, and the waiter was completely inattentive -- I would had dismissed it as the result of short-staffing, but he was all over himself for his "regulars." In the future, I will plan to order out, as brieflunchcounter did -- there is no reason to sully such fabulous food with a negative service experience.

Recipes for Quinoa?

This is by far my favorite Quinoa recipe -- the sweet corn and mint/scallion make for a delicious contrast. We serve it often alongside grilled mixed vegetables for a vegetarian feast! Last summer we had this dish almost every week, when corn was overflowing at our local farmers market.

BEST SUSHI OF LOS ANGELES

Clearly there are many sushi lovers on this board. :) Wonderful to be in such good company!

I've been to several establishments throughout LA and have to say that Sushi Masu is the one I consistently return to. If you make it clear that you are looking for true omakase he'll blow your socks off.

Everyone must go to Sushi Masu at least once!!

Everyone!

I have been dining at Sushi Masu on Westwood Blvd for some time now, off-and on, maybe 1 or 2 times per month. I have, however, been attempting to broaden my horizons a bit and try other sushi establishments in the area. Having now done so, I can unabashedly and unequivocally say that Sushi Masu is the BEST in town (especially on the West Side) when it comes to quality and affordability. He tends to stick to the more traditional preparations but that is only to his credit. His portions are very, very generous and his fish is of the highest quality. His tuna handrolls are to die for and his shellfish is delicious. Staff is super-friendly and the atmosphere is very casual. Be brave and go omakase! We recently tried Takao in Brentwood which has high zagat ratings and were relatively disappointed -- the owner and his staff seem to have forgotten what sushi is about. They are too caught up in the local "scene" - portions are tiny, prices are outrageous, and offerings are surprisingly skimpy.

Go to Sushi Masu sometime! Especially over the weekend if you are looking for a delicious alternative to Thanksgiving leftovers -- he will be closed on Thursday, but open to the public Friday through Sunday. I was just there last night (hence the accolades), but you might even see me there. :-)

Norwich/ Hanover Area Rehearsal Dinner Location? (VT/ NH)

Thanks guys, these are great options. I've been to the Home Hill Inn -- and it IS fabulous -- but I am looking for something slightly more dress-down and perhaps less imposing for the younger members of our rehearsal party. Have either of you ever experienced the Parker House restaurant? I've read good things, but would love any first-hand accounts... thanks again, both!!

Parker House Inn & Restaurant in Quechee, VT?

Norwich/ Hanover Area Rehearsal Dinner Location? (VT/ NH)

Hello! Does anyone have any suggestions for a great place to host a wedding rehearsal dinner in the Norwich, VT/ Hanover, NH area? Carpenter & Main will sadly be closed over our target weekend, but if you have any suggestions for similar-style food and ambiance, they would be much appreciated! Thanks!
