Good seafood in/near Brandon, Florida?
I've got family in Brandon and they want to go to a good seafood restaurant. Or any restaurant that happens to have some great seafood entrees. Frequently I go to awesome seafood places in the Pinellas beach area, but am stumped when it comes to Brandon. Bonefish is okay, but we're looking for a (better) alternative. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!
Looking for green coffee beans in Tampa, FL
Anyone know where I can buy green coffee beans in Tampa? Don't want a ton of them, my roaster is tiny. When ordering on-line, I either buy more than needed or I pay a lot in shipping.
Dinner for the night before the Bar Exam in Tampa
I second the motion for Mis En Place!
Restaurant near Tampa Embassy Suites Downtown
recommend Mis En Place, check out their website http://www.miseonline.com/
Tampa Recommendations
How does Cilantro's compare to Saigon Bay (in strip mall across from University Collections)? I noticed that there is no mention of Saigon Bay in this posting, but I usually go there instead of Pho Quyen.
Metro Tampa - Dinner & Brunch?
I recommend Mis En Place for dinner and also like Oystercatchers for brunch. Although I do love Circle's and it's still a good choice. It's a more intimate setting too, as OC is bigger & more expensive. Not a fan of Sidebern's, would go to Bern's over that.
TN: 2005 Rolf Binder Heysen Shiraz
www.hamptonswineshoppe.com has this wine on sale for $26.00/bottle. Don't wait, it will be gone soon.
Yum Gum: Orbit Mint Mojito
I just tried this gum, it's GREAT! It is mostly spearmint with lime notes under it. I agree with JK, it does make the spearmint fresher. I'm not usually a fan of that flavor.
Looking for chow worthy places Tampa Bay area

Thai: Thai Sweet Basil, Benjarong
Indian: Angithi, Bombay Masala
Mise en place in Tampa ??
Hey steakman55, it is still a great restaurant. Portions may be a bit smaller than you remember. It's still filling, and if you're going to the theatre, you don't want to take the leftovers anyway. I recommend any dish which includes duck confit. Only one thing I don't recommend, the flat iron steak is in a pool of grease. Otherwise everything else I've had there has been delicious.
Rec for Dinner Rehersal in Tampa Bay
Just throwing this out as an idea, Saffron's comes to mind. They're on the bay, not too expensive and I think they have a private room.
Carnicerias in Tampa Bay?
Thanks Mild Bill, I didn't know about these places in Tampa. I'm going on the field trip soon to check them out! Your description of Churrassco has already made me hungry this morning :-)
What's good in Brandon, or nearby in Tampa?
Lou, don't overlook Saigon Bay (Vietnamese) and Angithi (Indian). They are both nearby on Fowler Ave. Angithi is less expensive than Taj, and quality is about the same.
Good eats in St. Pete/Key West?
BeaN, you nailed it! I agree w/ everything you said. Ribdog is right about the bread too.
Another Cuban restaurant near St. Pete:
Havana Cafe 5402 Gulfport Blvd S, Gulfport, 33707
E&E Stakeout is a great restaurant with a lot of interesting seafood dishes, plus plenty of other choices for the inevitable friend/relative who just doesn't like fish. Good, although kinda small, wine list.
Keegan's is more casual and you don't have to have a reservation. They also are one of the few places which serves octopus - and they really do it well.
If you get a chance to go to Tampa, I usually go to Pipo's and Arco Iris for Cuban. La Teresita counter is a must for late night cafe con leche and frittata.
For really fresh cuban bread in Tampa, check out Mauricio Faedo's Bakery at 5150 N. Florida Ave.
Any Chowhound-worthy places in North Pinellas or Pasco counties?
Thanks for posting your review, debrolex, I'm going to try Rapscallions soon!
Favorite flavored potato chips? Probably not Coney Island Hot Dog with Mustard
I had chicken flavor in London, they weren't bad. Chips are very thin & light over there. Just tried Ikea "Sweden" style chips, they are great! Nice crunch, similar to kettle style but seemed to taste more potato-y & less greasy.
Man, I've got to go to Australia! Those flavors sound awesome!
THE BEST PIZZA in TAMPA BAY???
Good luck with your move, thakrza! I'll be glad to help you with recommendations. There are a lot of things to do and many great places to eat & drink! When people move here, they tend to stay. That's why we have so many transplanted Northerners (no, it's not just because of expensive real estate back home).
Carnicerias in Tampa Bay?
Mexico Lindo, 812 Court St., Clearwater, (727) 443-5892; 6050 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park, (727) 548-8721.
Organic/health food type places in Pinellas/Tampa
I found this list which might be helpful.
http://www.vegetarian-restaurants.net/usa/Tampa-Vegetarian-Restaurants.htm
There is a restaurant on there which is fairly new, "Grass Root Organic". Anyone been there? I plan to check it out this week! The article below is a review and also includes info about the "Tampa Raw Food Meet Up Group". They might be able to help you explore the organic scene.

New to Vietnamese Food
I also recommend Pho Quyen in Pinellas Park. Try Bun Thit Nuong, it is grilled pork over rice vermicelli noodles. Usually has basil, mint and cilantro leaves for a very fragrant seasoning. I like caramel pork at Saigon Bay in Tampa. It's sliced pork in a spicy sauce with caramelized onions, served over white rice. Has been known to drain the sinuses, ask for mild if a runny nose makes you uncomfortable (for me, it is the sign of a good meal, ha!).
Favorite Sandwich Joints in Tampa Bay?
Lucky Dill in downtown on Ashley Dr. is awesome. Great salad bar too!
Thai and spicy in Tampa?
I recommend Thai Sweet Basil BY FAR over other Thai joints here in Tampa. Very inventive food and some hot entries that will please your co-worker. Try the "Evil Jungle Salad". Just the name alone should make you curious, eh?
Organic/health food type places in Pinellas/Tampa
Is the NK Cafe on Kennedy still open? That's the only organic/health restaurant I remember. Benjarong Thai on N. Dale Mabry has a macrobiotic menu.
I know you don't want health food store cafeteria, but I still recommend Abby's on N. Dale Mabry. They have great prepared food. Cooking classes every other Saturday if you want to learn some of their recipes or technique.
Good Tex-Mex in Tampa Bay?
Also I have to rave about Taconazo (like everyone else does). I get a craving for them every 2 weeks, like clockwork.
Good Tex-Mex in Tampa Bay?
Hey Kevin, have you tried Carmelita's? They have several locations in Pinellas. Better than Mariachi's.
Best Deviled Crabs in Tampa
Deviled crabs are a dying art. Castellano & Pizzo makes a pretty decent one, but it's not as good as Rosie.
THE BEST PIZZA in TAMPA BAY???
Check out this one! Alfonso's, on Bearss and Florida Ave. Small, non-chain, the pizza is authentic NY style. Mushrooms aren't fresh, that's my only criticism. Crust is crunchy, mmmm.
