Eat Right America. Anyone attempting this?

No, water sauteing has been around a really long time - I think it might be one of the first ways food was cooked - but back then they called it "boiling"... HA!!! :)

CSA recommendations for 2012?

I totally did Farm Fresh to You and was really disappointed. Their produce spoiled within 2 days and then I complained to them and was told that I would not have to pay - then I received an email that I was going to be sent to collections for not paying them. They finally took care of it - but it left a really bad taste in my mouth.

Home Tours: Tacky?

I love house tours! I live in a converted three story industrial loft... so people typically want to see my place too! I mean I don't offer one the UPS guy... but to friends sure - why not!

The funny thing is - is that although he would never say he was that into food... but I can't tell you how many hours I have had to hear about how terrible sandwiches are in California ( no he does not want lettuce), the pizza is gross, nobody knows how to make a bagel... on and on on... which of course I find endearing... I of course remind him that maybe not all of our food is wicked awesome... but at least we know how to properly use the letter "r" in our everyday speech ;)

My boyfriends b-day is around the corner - and I would love to surprise him by taking him to a restaurant that reminds him of home - specifically Boston.

Can any Bostonians reccomend a place that makes you nostalgic for home?

A few things he always talks about: the seafood ( I know really obvious ) - the chinese food ( what makes it different I have no idea, but he loves it )

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks chowhounders xoxo

PS - I already know where the Carvel is!

hors d'oeuvres trays on the Peninsula

There are a lot of really great local caterers that do tray. Try Pamela Keith Cuisine Style.

When Restaurants Refuse Substitutions

I can't imagine a restaurant not accommodating my gluten allergy. But this article does drive home a point, when in doubt call ahead of time, or ask up front when you arrive. I think restaurants do have the right to run their business however they see fit, and if they are not willing to accommodate me or others then it is their loss, not mine! There are plenty out there that will!

But, Mom …

My mom and I have been going to the same restaurant for the last 8 years... are there other places? Sure! But you know what I will take her anywhere she wants to go...

But on another note, maybe you could take your mom to another restaurant on another day... someplace you like and you think she will like, that way you might find a new place next year!

Super-Frugal Meals -- around $1 per serving -- Beyond Rice and Beans

Oh... serve my famous "grey meat" special"... i.e. I always buy what it is in the clearance pile, mostly poultry, and then from there make dinner, or lunch or breakfast... for instance last week I bought (3) turkey breast for $3.00 each and (1) chicken for around $2.50. So Turkey dinner, turkey hash, turkey sandwich, roasted chicken and finally turkey/chicken soup... all for about $20.00 for a week for two people... I do this week in and week out. I do keep a well stocked pantry and herb garden. Most of everything during the week cooked in the crock pot.

Vegetarians at a Barbecue

I am not a veg, but if I were I think I would bring a hearty side dish that did not need to be cooked and that I could share. When I do have bbq's at my house I usually do have vegetarian side dishes. Not on purpose but I like the contrast to all the meat.
