Chinese: where can I find these dishes?
Lau, you seem like a wealth of knowledge on Chinese food in New York. I might have an opportunity for you this coming week, is there an email where I can reach you?
best angel food cake
Which bakeries carry good angel food cake?
Or, are any restaurants currently serving a nice one?
Thanks in advance!
Your thoughts on Saveur's LA
I've been out of LA for 4 years, living in NYC - wondering what LA hounds think about this month's Saveur. Accurate? Thorough? Missing anything? Any entry ill-informed?
I'll be traveling out there for work in a few months. Is this issue a good place to start my eating itinerary?
Ducasse copper cookware?
A few years ago the Times did a story on Alain Ducasse's line of copper cookware. (link below). Does anyone know who manufactures it and/or where it's sold (if still available)? Thanks so much in advance.

Munich, Prague, Berlin for the holidays
Thank you both. I initially overwhelmed by all the threads but have made some headway--
what do you think of this list for Berlin? (still working on the other 2 cities - but I much appreciate your Munich suggestions Trip Klaus!) We need to whittle this down, we have 4 nights in berlin, one of which is NYE.
Reinstoff (in Mitte)
Pata Negra (Mitte)
Cookies Cream (Mitte)
Fassbender and Rausch
Marjellchen
Renger-Patzsch (Schoneberg)
Engelbecken (Charlottenburg)
Vau
Prater
Curry 36
And then Winterfeldmarkt and KaDeWe as well...
Munich, Prague, Berlin for the holidays
My sister just took a job in Berlin and our family's headed out there for the holidays. We've never been to Germany before and need all the help we can get!
We're spending Christmas in Munich and NYE in Berlin, visiting Prague for a day or two in between.
Any food, restaurant, or experience suggestions? Who is open on Christmas and NYE?
Budget is flexible and we're eager to taste the best - beer halls, markets, high-end for the actual holidays -- did I read about speakeasy-style hidden restaurants?
Many thanks in advance, and happy holidays to all!
Fine Italian
And, though a nice restaurant, wouldn't Il Mulino fall into the "red sauce" category?
Top 10 dishes in Manhattan?
What have you've eaten recently (or not so recently) that stood out to you, for any reason? For example, a friend will not stop talking about the Redhead's bacon brittle; I was taken by surprise (in the best way) by Locanda Verde's sheep's milk ricotta. I've been gone for a while- please get me back in the loop! Thanks in advance.
This post was inspired by another post for top 10 restaurants...thanks steakrules85! http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/627486)
Fine Italian
I thought the Enoteca has a la carte as an option? Hounds seem to love Scarpetta, at 14th and 8th Ave, and it sounds like that would suit your needs well.
What do you drink with a JG Melon burger?
Finally making it up to JG to have the famous burger. I've heard the beer selection is limited...what's your ideal beverage to wash it down, beer or otherwise?
Eggplant sandwiches (NOT parms)?
Kampuchea, a Cambodian restaurant, has a fantastic and unusual grilled eggplant sandwich. I just revisited the menu to make sure it's still there, and it's actually made with 2 types of eggpant: Thai and Chinese! Hope you try it. It's on Rivington and Allen.
I also love eggplant - I'd love to hear your reviews once you're done with this quest!
BYOB in downtown manhattan
Is Kuma Inn still doing BYO? I read somewhere they got their liquor license
Best feta?
Saddleoflamb you are a wealth of feta information! Thank you, thank you for your response. I will keep my eyes peeled for these brands on my trip to Astoria, and if they're not in stock I'll definitely search them out elsewhere. Where do you get yours?
Best restaurant lineup for a 3-day trip in NY
You're definitely going to get more responses on the Manhattan board. (If you want to explore the outer boroughs, mention that in your post and I'm sure many hounds will happily include their favorites.)
We just had Restaurant Week (special pre-fixe lunches $25 and dinner $35) and many restaurants have extended their deals through Feb, March, even the end of the year, so you should keep your eye out for that if you're looking for a deal. If your schedule allows, fabulous lunch deals can be had at many top restaurants, such as Jean Georges.
Have fun!
Best feta?
Mmm, sounds delicious! Thanks for the recs - looking forward to treating myself to a sweet bite on this shopping trip!
Best feta?
I just had the best tasting feta I've ever been served at dinner in Astoria last week.
Anyone know where I can buy that quality feta myself? I'd like to serve it at a dinner party I'm having with a Turkish guy and his friends. Manhattan is preferable, but I'm willing to travel for great cheese!
Thanks!
Best Cookies in NYC??
What is your prefererred type? ie thin/thick, crispy/chewy...
Levain bakery has my personal faves - always moist, crispy outside and tender with a slight chew inside...and plenty of melty pockets of chocolate. It's on the UWS - W 74th I think.
It sounds like you're getting these as a gift- be sure to get one warm to eat on the spot. Heaven.
Chilaquiles in NYC?
Zarela! She serves it with green and red sauce, and I think it's better (but it's also milder, so if you like spicy, say so or add a dab of the hot hot salsa). Delicioso...
Great lunch out - where to go?
Just ate in the Tavern Room for lunch 2 weekends ago, and I highly recommend it for you. My first time in the front, actually, and I have to say I was impressed - same great service, top-notch food, just more convivial at lunch time. Enjoy!
Fried Pickles anywhere?o_O
They're chip shaped (discs, not spears), and battered, but surprisingly tasty -- my first encounter this weekend at Brother Jimmy's. Good luck!
Good burgers?
This is actually a very popular/controversial topic around these parts...have you tried running a search on "burger" on this board?
This should get you started (177 replies as I write this!) http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/234881
Happy burger eating
Can someone identify this spice?
I don't think it's sumac, either. It almost looks like fried onion/shallot!
Open kitchen aside from Degustation?
Casa Mono's kitchen is open, it's not much drama but it's decent entertainment if you're sitting at the bar. (can't see much if you're sitting at a table)
So Depressed About Moving to Chelsea -- Please Justify with Food
How about Tia Pol and El Quinto Pino? Cookshop, Bar Veloce, Ara, Crispo are also short walks. And I do love the Green Table inside Chelsea Market.
2nd date between 40th and 20th, East Side
For a trendy vibe and "safe" cuisine choice, Bar Milano. For more low-key, perhaps Ali Baba, solid Turkish on E. 34th? Not trendy at all but really delicious and still lively atmosphere - I would love it if a date invited me here. You might look into Bread Bar at Tabla for Indian-influenced American food, right off Mad Sq Park. From one single girl (assuming by your user ID) to another, good luck!! :-)
Wheat-free places
Risotteria in the West Village is gluten-free, although the risottos probably have some butter in them. Their pizza crusts and breadsticks are rice-based, and you can order any of them without cheese. Cafe Angelique is nearby and serves wheat-free desserts.
Otherwise, I would try some vegan or macrobiotic spots, like Caravan of Dreams, Candle 79, Angelica Kitchen, Pure Food & Wine (raw), Blossom, Soy Luck Club, etc.
