Private Room for 8-10 from Downtown to Mid OC Reasonable Price
I am looking for a restaurant with a private room - perhaps a tatami room? Japanese, Chinese, Italian, fusion, or American cuisine. No Indian, Moroccan, or Persian food. For 8-10 people, including parents (no belly dancers please!). Looking to spend around $20 per person. Anywhere as far north as downtown/K-town, and as far south as... Costa Mesa.
I am thinking about Sanuki no Sato in Gardena, but this seems like its more in the $30-40 range and if possible I'd like to be in the $15-$25 range.
Any suggestions?
Good Takeout Chinese & Italian near Cerritos/Lakewood area
For Italian, I think Frantone's has takeout. Its cheap and pretty decent. I like the tomato sauce.

Bakeries In Fullerton
There is a Paris Baguette on Beach Blvd. and La Mirada in Buena Park - they have good pastries.
"Real" French in Maryland/DC?
La Chaumiere is overrated. I was there last year, and aside from the food which was mediocre at best, the place seemed like a senior center. For my salad, they used CANNED PEARS on a bed of spinach DRENCHED in a balsamic vinagrette dressing. Crab cakes were so overloaded with cream and salt, yet lacking flavor, that they gave me a stomachache afterwards. Presentation was horrible. We were probably the only ones in the restaurant under age 60.
Recommendations for this weekend, In Town with Clients from LA
What comes to mind -
Asia de Cuba - decent food, although there is an LA location.
The Modern - love the food, presentation is also great. The bar room is more of a "scene" than the dining room, but I like the dining room better.
Tao - bad food, but flashy and has kind of a club like atmosphere.
Great Meal for less than $15 per person
Thanks for the recs! I'm just looking for something new...
Brian S or Chinatown experts: Do any of those places in Chinatown happen to serve this shrimp dish with mayonnaise/walnuts/broccoli? I had this at a Chinese Banquet once and have not been able to find it in restaurants.
New to LA - Need Good California cuisine $15-$20 dinner preferably LA/Santa Monica areas
I like Urth Caffe (Melrose/Robertson) and M. Cafe de Chaya (Melrose/La Brea).
M. Cafe de Chaya is extremely healthy and not for everyone... some of my friends say its too healthy, but I like it.
Urth has healthy, fresh, delicious California-ish sandwiches and salads. Its a nice place to sit on a warm day and people watch.
Tangata in the Bowers Museum?
Has anyone been here for lunch? Any recs/must haves? Am I correct that they do not serve dinner?

What is your favorite place to eat – anywhere south of Union Square (preferably in the Village or Soho) – under $15 per person. Something good, delicious, and filling. Looking for sit down restaurants, not takeout.
