Agreed, with regards to Glassner's "Gospel"...it has been receiving tons of positive reviews-- LA Times, Bourdain, etc. Check it out!

'The Gospel of Food' by Barry Glassner

http://www.barryglassner.com/reviews.html ... More positive praise from the media--- LA Times, Anthony Bourdain included.

Glassner succeeds with "Gospel"

Agreed...its refreshing to see someone actually BACKING UP his/her claims.

Can Americans make good beer?

Let's not be so quick to denounce American beers. I often do tend to favor international flavors, however there are a few domestic brands worth merit i.e. Saranac.

'The Gospel of Food' by Barry Glassner

Agreed...Glassner comes with a much different approach than most food literature with his Sociology background. Rather than offering anecdotal evidence, he actually backs his theories up.

Indian Beer

Thanks.

Glassner succeeds with "Gospel"

More than anything, I thought this book was very readable...informative, without becoming too overly academic. I particularly enjoyed his discussion on obesity trends... any thoughts on this or the chowhounds mention??

Indian Beer

Could anyone suggest some good Indian beers?

Anthony Bourdain's Cooking Show

When does the new season start?

Chez Oskar

I recently had a bite at Chez Oskar in Bklyn, right near Pratt- Great location, good service, food was okay--felt somewhat rushed. Any nice spots around Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy area?

Ethiopian dining...

I recently visited the Awash Ethiopian restaurant located at 947 Amsterdam Ave., in Morningside Heights...This was my first time having Ethopian food and I absolutely loved it! The restaurant itself was somewhat small, however it had a great laid-back feel and good service. The food was incredible, and I was wondering if there were any other comparable spots in any the 5 boroughs people could recommend?

Food Literature

There's actually this book I stumbled upon that should be coming out soon called "The Gospel of Food," by Barry Glassner-(was in Bowling for Columbine). It looked interesting to me- discussing some of the fads and myths surrounding food...I liked his other book "The Culture of Fear," which was not food related, good read nonetheless.

Haitian beer?

I had this Haitian beer a while back and absolutely loved it, does anyone know the name of it?

What are your least favorite Thanksgiving recipes??

Without a doubt, this would have to be canned cranberry...

Good homestyle pizza?

I've had mixed results lately with regards to quality pizza in Philadelphia...I need a fix...any suggestions?

Food options in T & T?

Are there any restaurants I should look out for on my trip to Trinidad and Tobago?

old Italian Restaurant in Syracuse

I've had halfway decent Italian food at Pastabilities in downtown Syracuse, however, I was more or less blown away by some of the Italian dishes they had right around the corner at a place called BC...A little more high-end, but good nonetheless.
