What foods do you refuse to eat?
Pineapple. Puked when I was 6. Just the thought of it makes me gag.
What foods do you refuse to eat?
I agree with the small amounts part. I love real buttercream, but even the real stuff in large amounts is a little too much. If used on a cake, there needs to more cake than frosting.
What time do you all eat dinner?
About 30-45 minutes after I get home from work, usually. Because my work schedule varies a bit, that means sometimes between 5:15 and 7:00. On the later days, I usually end up nibbling some cheese while cooking because I'm starving. Like a couple people have mentioned, I prefer to eat earlier because if I eat too close to going to bed, I get heartburn.
Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you
Reminds me of a story I once read about someone who worked poison control. Someone called the line to ask about some cans of beer that had been sitting in their basements for five years. "Well, it's safe to drink, but it's going to taste like five year old beer."
Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you
How bad is it that I went "Oh, Las Cruces, that explains it." (I"m in ABQ).
Say what?? Cooking comments that baffle you
My aunt doesn't cook, but she was honest enought when house shopping to say that the problem with all the placesthey looked at wasthat they had kitchens.
What 20 dishes should I know how to make without a recipe?
I'm a believer that everyone should have a dessert under their belt. Mine is chocolate mousse, because it's so much easier than most people know. But anything will work.
Do you have family/friends who don't appreciate good home cooking?
Not having been there, I can't say what the response to the OP really was, but I admit I thought of some of my own relatives who would have given a flat "Oh" and acted like I'd just handed them a bag with a dead goldfish in it. So I could get being bummed.
2012 Confessions
Coming late to this one, but better late than never:
I hate coffee and most wine. Too bitter.
I love frozen pizza, and have been known to eat an entire one in a single sitting. Yes, I know how to make my own and it's very tasty, but sometimes, I just want a frozen one.
I use canned items, including veggies and soups, fairly regularly.
The amount of candy I eat, as an adult, well, let's just say it's embarrassing.

My local tap water is awful. I drink it anyway. Eventually, it stops bother you.
Dissapointing Dinner at Friends House
I have an aunt whose turkey gravy is just the strained juices. She should get together with your mother in law.
Teaching children to behave at restaurants
Eating in front of the TV should be an occasional treat. (It's your birthday, so we're going to have ice cream and watch your favorite movie while eating it!) not a routine. I live alone, so I'm pretty bad about eating in front of the TV or the computer, but even I have days where I'm like "I miss the ritual of the table" and set up a nice meal at my table.
Teaching children to behave at restaurants
I agree that kids should be set up to succeed, not to be punished. I'm a believer in starting at home. When they can get through a meal consistently without running around or throwing food, try them at a casual restaurant. Pick places where the food will come quickly, or that provide something you can snack on while you wait, so kids don't get fussy due to hunger. Go at your usual dinner time, so they're on schedule and not tired. Have something to keep them occupied if they get bored. I'm not talking portable DVD players here, but something like Tic-Tac-Toe that you can do with them. Use casual restaurants to learn about things that may not happen at home, such as how to thank the waiter or how to signal for more water.
Teaching chow pups moderation
Don't let him overload his plate and enforce the idea of a "proper" portion. Remind him that he can have more servings when he finishes the first ones. A big factor in overeating is too much on the plate. It tricks our brain about how much we've eaten.
Awesome Friends With Food Sensitivities
The best comment I ever heard from an allergist is that skin tests are not for finding out what you're allergic to -- they're for finding out what you don't react to. Allergic reactions also stack, so if you're having a reaction to one thing, you may react to something that is normally not a problem. (My dad has to avoid basil during certain times of the year when his hay fever is really bad).
Food Scars - Things you will never eat again.
While most people know it's coincidence, we have evolved to be wary of foods that might have made us sick. It's a known conditioned response, not nonsense.
Hi, my name is _______ and I'm addicted to ________ .(food only please!)
For me, it's sour patch kids. I can eat those until the inside of my mouth hurts from the sour.
Your "Get Well" Chicken Soup
I do a version inspired by tom yum. Lemongrass, galangal, shallot, garlic, simmer about 20 minutes, add fish sauce, chili paste, sliced boneless chicken. Take off heat, add fresh lime juice and cilantro. Add rice noodles (I soak them while the soup is cooking).
what brand of fish sauce?
I have found small bottles of Squid brand once or twice. It's my go-to brand, but I admit that some of that is inertia on my part. I buy it, 'cause it's what I always buy.
Great produce that won't break the budget?
I think it depends on what you're buying. Some things are expensive, because, well, they're expensive everywhere -- raspberries, for instance. But others are a great deal when you account for the quality.
Foods that unreasonably gross you out...
I don't like them, but they don't rise to the level of grossed out.
What's the most overpriced menu item you've seen?
That's good to know. I like the idea of costing McDonald's money.
Restaurants that won't let you 'have it your way"
My rule is that you can always ask, and they can always say no. Unless you have a food allergy that makes it difficult to find things you can eat, the correct response to "no" is to simply order something else or take your business elsewhere.
What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?
Sounds like you're serving up a plate of candles.
What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?
If it's not a Vietnamese family owned place, the pho will probably be less than great. The worst is at the various pan-Asian places.
For 2012 I Hereby Resolved to...
1) Eat more fruits and veggies
1a) Try new fruits and veggies so I have more options.
2) Treat myself to something I've never had before at a restaurant at least once ever couple months.
3) Find a place with a better kitchen when I finally move.
4) Learn at least two new ways of cooking beans and rice.
Do you eat the...gulp...fat?
Same here. And it needs to be still hot. Too often, it cools quickly and turns rubbery. Nasty, nasty, nasty.
Popular flavors that you don't care for
Wow, I though I was the only one who thought cumin smells like BO! Good to know I'm not alone.
