Soufganiyot in NYC

I second on Meir's. They are on Ave J between 14 & 15.
Custard, Caramel & Jelly. So yummy.

Garden of Eat-In - Brooklyn

Does anyone have a review of Garden of Eat-In, on Avenue J in Brooklyn?

V Cafe-- hidden gem, best letter restaurant of them all

I love V! And you are right about the service.
My favorite are the pressed sandwiches. I can never decide which one to get so I end up getting two or three. Even my two year old likes them and that is saying a lot.

J2 Pizza Closed

no surprise there. that place is filthy.

Pesach breakfast ideas?

yogurt and fruit, matzoh with cream cheese and jelly, scrambled eggs and home fries or hash browns, or even left over latkes. or you can make a fritada with your favorite veggies in it. or bake a fruit kugel.

Coconut milk for Passover?

The proper way to make coconut milk is from actual fresh coconuts which are available at many grocery stores, especially in Asian or Spanish areas. Scoop out the white coconut flesh, shred it and squeeze in cheesecloth. I cannot imagine what you would get from dried up coconut, but i assure you that fresh is far superior to canned.

Coconut milk for Passover?

you can make you own with fresh coconuts.

Manischewitz Chicken and Stars soup?

I used to get it at Brachs but haven't seen it there in months.
I really hope they are still making it, my kids loved it.

Recommended Discoveries at Pomegranate?

whoops! (sorry, mommy brain)
I meant the Napoleon, a layered pastry with custard and a yummy chocolate/coffee flavored top.

Cafe 92Y Tribeca

I called them and they said they are Kosher dairy and under the supervision of Rabbi Marmorstein, but not shomer shabbos.
It sounds odd since the Y is a Jewish organization.

Recommended Discoveries at Pomegranate?

The neopolitan was fantastic.

Pareve Pudding from a Mix

I've used both Rich's non-dairy creamer, soy milk and rice milk. None works great if you do it by the directions. I use two boxes of pudding mix and three cups of liquid (instead of the four it calls for). It comes out great. I like to use soy or rice milk since they work the same as non-dairy creamer but have less chemicals in them. Just be aware that it will come out sweeter than with plain milk since most soy/rice milk is sweetened.

Kosher Fresh Mozzrella?

You should try U Cafe. They have it on the menu, maybe they will sell you some, or tell you where they get it.

Gertel's Bakery

I don't know about Gertel's, but you can get a Beigel's challlah at C-town (92nd & 2nd Ave) for about $2.99.

Boro Park recommendations

Going to be in Boro Park area soon and wondering if there are any recommendations for good/yummy places to order from.

Kosher Market on Upper East Side?

Kosher Gourmet was on 92nd and 1st Ave, but no one went there so it closed.
It is now a bodega, but they still have much of the old kosher stock, if you feel like taking a look.

Kosher in New Orleans?

I was just at Kosher Cajun a few weeks ago. The jambalaya was great. I think they deliver.

Asian Bat Mitzvah and has to be vegetarian

Try this. They're not vegetarian, but I'm sure you can get some ideas.

Dairy?

U cafe is a eally nice cafe with seating and table service and yummy food, and is nice a and clean. Vegetarian Cafe/V cafe is a hole in the wall sandwich joint with really good food.

I recommend both.

kosher bonito flakes

I've never seen them, but if you find them please post and again and share the info.

Fresh Asian Noodles

There are a bunch of NY noodle companies that make fresh kosher noodles, under OU and star K, but I've only found them in the markets in China Town. Maybe you could contact the OU about certifying one of the local LA noodle factories.

cakes via the mail?

Oh no! That's so sad.

Smokey Joes in Teaneck

WOW!
I had no idea that Chowhound had become so intolerant. I simply gave my food review of a restaurant. If y'all don't agree thats fine. My main problem with Smokeys is the same as with most kosher restaurants. They serve food that is so dumbed down to the bland American palate that it removes all trace of authentic seasoning. It's boring for a food lover to find yet another watered down kosher restaurant.

Smokey Joes in Teaneck

Our family ordered take out from Smokey Joes last night.
I got the taco salad, which was basically Romain lettuce, a piece of squishy tomato, and some cucumber served in a fried tortilla shell with pieces of corn sprinkled over it and strips of dried up rubbery beef on top. ick. We also got a chicken burrito, which wasn't that great, a guacamole burger witch was drowning in guacamole, the wings which were not at all interesting, and some guacamole and chips. The chips were fried flour tortillas, which is odd since usually Mexican style restaurants serve corn chips, plus they were super greasy. Sort of like eating fried won ton chips at a Chinese place. The guacamole was good, and the tiny little thing of fresh salsa was good, but the rest was mediocre at best. I don't know about the service or decor, but the food was not so good, and if you are actually looking for Tex-Mex, you will not find it here.

Kosher in New Orleans?

Thanks.

Kosher in New Orleans?

I'm going to be in the down town/French Quarter area of New Orleans with out a car, is there any where to get kosher food, or even a grocery store that sells something I could eat in my hotel? I looked online but the only kosher restaurants I found are over in Metairie.
