pre passover craving
craving good chinese food tonight marlboro/manalapan....any suggestions?
Stella Marina Asbury Park
We went there last Saturday night. We sat at the downstairs bar waiting for a table. My wine glass was dirty, the wine was too warm, the bartender was tossing lemons and limes right in my face, he broke a glass and was totally frazzled and the noise level was unbearable. We left and probably won't go back .
Steakhouse 85: A Review
there are quite a few fish selections on the menu ..one of the owners use to own the fish market in east brunswick...
Steakhouse 85: A Review
We tried Steakhouse 85 tonight . The Italian bread seemed like it didn't belong in a steakhouse. The ceasar salad was disappointing. A very small salad plate with some romaine lettuce, one tiny sliver of a white anchovy(i think that's what it was) and a small piece of bland toast on the side was not worth the $8. The oysters were fabulous. We shared the tomahawk chop and it was very good and more than enough for the two of us. The steak potatoes were fine. Warmed chocolate truffles for dessert could have been warmer and the coffee was delicious. The restaurant is great looking and on a Saturday night the place was hopping. The jazz combo playing wasn't too loud even for us dining in the bar area. I think we had 3 different servers during the meal including the manager. He asked us how was liked everything and we told him we thought everything was good but the salad was really meager for the price. He took it off the bill which was very kind of him. All in all I think we would go back again.

Nicholas dinner at the bar
I may not have caught the post but... I ate at the bar last night at Nicholas for the first time and I asked the bartender if he was Chris. He was Bob(Bill?) the bartender and he told me that Chris was leaving. Bob/Bill was very nice and made a good martini. Dinner was fabulous. I had Baby Field Greens, Caramelized Hazelnuts, Beaufort Cheese. For an entree I had the Bouillabaisse and Bob suggested a terrific white wine. Dessert was the signature dish Warm Valrhona Chocolate Cake, Vanilla Ice Cream. One of the other diners at the bar suggested I get an after dinner wine to go with it and it really was perfect. Everything was delicious and I thought the price of $83 was pretty reasonable for three drinks, salad, entree and dessert. Nice crowd dining at the bar as well.
Jimmys in Asbury Park
Four of us went last Saturday night. The appetizers were very good, fried calamari and an order of mussles. Main courses were good...veal chops (huge), veal pizzaiola and a chicken scarparella. One complaint was that service was a little slow for the main courses. Other than that it was good and we would probably go back. Sunday night we went to Bamontes in Brooklyn and I ordered the same dish, veal pizzaiola and it was a little more flavorful...crazy to eat the same thing two nights in a row but i really wanted to do a taste comparison.
Wedding Cake Bakery

Thyme Square- Red Bank
I went to Dellasolla a few weeks ago with 5 other people. It was not very good. First when we called we were told a big party was coming in and we had to make our reservations for 7:30 instead of 7. It was a Thursday. When we got there only two other tables taken, one for 6 and one for 8 people. That should have tipped us off but we forged on. All of the appetizers took forever to arrive and the main courses were awful. I cant even remember what we had. All I can remember is that I kept saying to myself that I wouldnt return. It turns out the chef got sick and the owner had to take him to the hospital. The owner was kind enough to take off the cost of two entrees from our bill and gave us dessert. I'll wait before I ever go back there again to hear if it/the chef has made a miraculous recovery.

sweet and sour cabbage soup
heres what i found from
Ratners Meatless Cookbook
1 small head green cabbage cored and shredded
1(1 lb 12 oz) can tomatoes chopped and undrained
2 cups tomato puree
1 qt water
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon sour salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 egg yolks
1/2 cup sour cream
in a large kettle combine all ingredients except for egg yolks and sour cream. cover and simmer for 45 min. in a small bowl beat egg yolks and sour cream. gradually beat in 1 cup of the hot soup. stir the egg mixture into the remaining soup and continue stirring to prevent curdling. correct seasonings. may be topped with dollop of sour cream.
atmosphere and good seafood
I've read alot of posts here and most seem to feel that alot of the places down by the shore in Monmouth County have great atmosphere..views of the ocean..but the food is so so. Can anyone suggest a place/places that have both good atmosphere..summertime I love looking at the ocean..and really good food? I'd love some really good steamers that aren't sandy, perhaps a raw bar, lobsters, and really good fresh fish prepared in a tasty way. Thanks in advance.
Another great meal at Shipwreck Grill~Brielle
