need old town recommendation

for casual, the breakfast in north Old Town at Extra Perks is good, with a British flair http://www.extraperkscoffeeshopandcaf...
for more upscale, try Majestic on King Street. Delicious.

Very good family type Indian cafe in Arlington.

I want to second the recommendation of Saran. I'm still craving the pakoras I had there 2 days ago for the Sunday buffet. My friend and I originally went to Sangam, recommended here, but the buffet looked like it was days old. Saag paneer with NO paneer in it, that kind of thing. Saran's buffet looked and tasted fresh. Can't wait to order off the menu.

Where to take steak lover in Brooklyn that also has other good food?

For my husband's birthday, I want to get him that big steak dinner that he loves, but I am not wild about steak so a place like Peter Luger's would be wasted on me. Is there somewhere else in Brooklyn that has a great steak but also excels in preparing other items?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Back forty - thoughts/recommends?

After looking forward to going there, my first visit left me disappointed. In short, I appreciate the attention to the provenance of ingredients, but found the preparation uninspired to the point of bland at times. We arrived on a Saturday night and and were seated after a 20 minute wait (allowing us to have a drink at a bar next door), which was fine. The menu is more limited than I expected. I had the roast chicken which was juicy but bland and the cumin sauce accompaniment did not complement the meat. The parsnip fries were undercooked. The onion rings were good. My friend's burger was fine, though also undercooked. The atmosphere and staff are jovial. My friend was excited by the fact they serve "cask" beer -- evidently very rare on the East Coast. But I don't think I'll be back soon.

Cafe Con Leche mini-chain?

What do Chowhounds think of the Cafe Con Leche chain? Not authentic enough? I havent been there for a couple years but remember liking their picadillo and am looking for Dominican or Cuban food this weekend.

Thanks.

Downtown Indian for tonight

Banjara at the corner of E. 6th is a crowd pleaser. Gets mixed reviews on this board though many agree it's one of the better offerings in E. Village.

Late night dinner after Broadway show?

Where can we get a light meal -- maybe tapas -- after a play on Friday night? We're willing to travel out of the Times Square region a little. Looking for quality and atmosphere.
Thanks.

What about the lovely tapas at Alta on West 10th? That's always struck me as a great date place. Dark, candlelit.

top 3 restaurants iin williamsburg?

Aqua da Santa has such a lovely setting but have been there twice now and their food is mediocre. Bland red sauce, pesto that doesn't taste fresh and out-of-season tomatoes in their caprese!

African restaurants near BAM?

In looking at past discussions about where to eat near BAM, there were a couple references to a Senegalese restaurant called Keur N'Dye. But I couldn't find any further discussion of the food. Anyone been there recently? Or is it better to take a long walk to Joloff? Going to BAM tonight and would like to check out one of these places after the performance.

Thanks

Impress the Manhattan Family in Cobble Hill?

For a drink and a nice charcuterie before dinner, check out Robin des Bois on Smith near Bergen, which has a lovely back garden. Alas their dinner food is not as good as the other places people have mentioned, but their ambience is great for a drink.

Places I must eat in Brooklyn

Just want to sound a dissenting note on Queen. After hearing so many on this list tout Queen, we went in August with an out of town guest and were sorely disappointed. It was expensive, the food was nothing special (tomatoes were out of season) and it had little character besides the cheery Italian proprietor tending bar. It's a lot of money for food you could get for less at Fragole, Casa Rosa or Lunetta.

Seafood near water, NYC or NJ

It's on an inlet but the Atlantic Ocean is maybe a mile away. Jordan's Lobster Farm in Long Beach, Long Island is great. It's mainly a seafood distributor but has a wooden patio off to the side of the building. Very casual. I went for the first time after a day at the beach and shared 3 lobsters with my husband, beer and sides for a little under $50 I think. You can walk there from the Isle Park stop on the LIRR. They have a website.

Quiet quality restaurants in Park Slope?

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. We're going to Applewood, where the hostess said she's putting us in a quiet corner. But after the poz response I really want to try Palo Santo next!

Quiet quality restaurants in Park Slope?

For a birthday dinner for a friend who hates loud restaurants, does anyone have recommendations for good, but fairly quiet places in Park Slope. I was thinking Applewood but haven't been there.

Carroll Gardens Greenmarket - Recent Reviews?

As MissMasala said, for a local it's great. In addition to the items she mentions, there's always a good selection of head lettuce -- boston, romaine, butter. And one stall that will be growing swiss chard all summer long.

Hong Kong boat festival in Qns--worthwhile food excursion?

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival sounds like fun -- description below -- but I am wondering if there are any culinary draws. Anyone been? If so, is the food distinctive?

"The NY Dragon Boat Champtionships will be on Saturday and the US Champtionships on Sunday. To round out the event, expect a Shaolin Kung Fu demonstration, dancing dragons, a dumpling eating contest and much much more."

Mediocre meal at Fragole

I've never been that impressed with Fragole, but it continues to rank as a favorite Carroll Gardens Italian restaurant on this board and by word of mouth. Last night we had a meal of oversalted cannellini bean soup, salad with unripe tomatoes (and this, in late July!) and bland chicken milanesa (sprinkled with chopped unripe tomatoes). Very disappointing. Are their pastas the main reason for the accolades or did I just hit them on an off night?

When I went, a woman who seemed to be in charge said that there will be "lots more" stands open next week.
