Looking for Famous Chocolate Wafers on the eastside!

I'm looking for Famous Chocolate Wafers to make a cookie crust. Anyone know where to find them convenient to Glendale? I've gotten them at Vons on Central Ave every year but they don't seem to stock them anymore. Help!

Pies from Cake Monkey?

we usually head down to the Filling Station but are trying to save the drive to OC. The CM pies sound so good! Anyone who's tried them?

Early Memorial day dinner - reasonable or free corkage

Looking for a casual, not too noisy place. Prefer some outdoor seating but not essential. American, Italian, or seafood. Location: Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Pasadena, Glendale, Montrose.

Any ideas?

Los Feliz or Burbank Costco -

Has anyone spotted wild salmon in these stores yet?

Buche de Noel

Does anyone have a recommendation about where to get one? I'm in Glendale so a bakery on this side of town would be great.
Thanks

Church and State wine list

How is it? How are the prices -- average and most moderate.
Do they waive corkage on one bottle if you buy one bottle?

What to order? There seems to be some disagreement in the posts.

Cake from Williams Sonoma

Has anyone ever ordered a cake from Williams Sonoma? This one is made by Perfect Endings in Napa Valley. Let me know your experience.

Best "Indie" Chocolates in L.A.??

I was facing a similar dilemma last weekend and went to the Chocolate Box in La Canada (N of Glendale). Fabulous stuff. The owner spent lots of time and gave me lots of samples. The chocolates are great and the boxes are things of beauty.

25 Degrees experience...

We requested burgers done medium rare and got them done medium well. The server acted like we were interrupting what he would normally be doing if we weren't sitting at his table. Also, he dumped 1/2 of my overpriced wine, I asked for him to replace it but I never got it. Wouldn't go back.

Anybody ever done T'giving takeout?

I've wondered about takeout T'giving. Do you heat the turkey or eat it cold?

Birthday party venue

I'm anticipating around 40. Would like wine and appetizers preferably in a private room. Have put calls into Vertical Wine Bistro and Red, White and Bluez. Does anyone know if they would fill my bill?

Elements Kitchen Catering

Many people on this board rave about this company is Pasadena. I have called twice to see if I can come in to meet with someone. Both times I've been told "it's not a good time". Finally, I have an appointment for next week. The person helping me has twice emailed me menus for food I don't like. I have sent an email telling her so but get the same thing back again.

When I ask if she can send me a list of appetizers to choose from she says "no" everything is customized for the party. Then why do I keep getting sent the same 4 appetizers on my menu when I have repeatedly said I don't like them.

Do I have account assistant from hell? Is it worth trying to talk to someone else or should I just go elsewhere. Unfortunately when I call she answers the phone.

Does anyone have experience with this company and maybe another contact?

Cornmeal Crust Pizza in Los Angeles Area?

There was a place off of Van Ness that we used to eat cornmeal crust pizza. Near Davies Hall. Anyway, I also crave it and the only place I've found is Zelo.

Food for kid's party

We're having a party at home for our 4 year old but would like something other than the usual pizza. Interested in great little sandwiches, hamburgers, etc. Either a place that makes good food for us to buy and bring home, or an inexpensive caterer. Something that kids and adults can enjoy so it needs to be tasty but still kid-friendly.

Fat Fish in WH for their happy hour. Nice lounge. Well priced drinks and sushi. Really fun and not expensive.

Jar tonight - what to order

We're going to Jar tonight -- haven't been there since the remodel. Used to like the pot roast and ice cream sundae. Should I still get the pot roast? Mash pots or fries? Banana cream pie, butterscotch pudding, or the caramel sundae?
And what starter?
Help!

Monrose Catering, Looking for Wedding Caterer

We used Auntie Em's to cater a cocktail party and, quite frankly, it was bad. They promised us all kinds of hand crafted appetizers and all we got were bowls of various dips and pita crackers and bread. For the money, it was a rip off.

prepared food delivered not take out

I live in CA and have a good friend in Chicago who just had a baby. I'd love to send her a few nights worth of dinners. Is there a place in the area that would deliver a selection of prepared foods so she could just heat up something wholesome and delicious every night?
Thanks for your thoughts...

Susiecakes

The whoopie cake ($5 or $6! can't remember) was something that would only appeal to people under 11 yrs of age. The fudge cake ($5.95, I think) was dry and uninteresting. After all that, I didn't try the apple pie until the next day. Yum! Tasted of apples and apple cider. Stuffed with apples -- reminded me of the the Filling Station pies. Only quibble -- after I ate the pie there were lots of globs of gelatin on my plate. Why would you need gelatin in an apple pie -- especially one with so much filling?

I just drove 24 miles to Brentwood to try their cake before placing a holiday order. Yuck. Dry and undistinguised. And $$$.

Christmas Desserts

I'm looking for some special cakes. None of the yule logs I've had have been very good and are usually kind of cheesy looking. I prefer chocolate. Any recs -- I like SLJ and Patticakes but don't know of any special Christmas items.

A number of the cooking magazines have done chocolate peppermint cakes -- unfortunately my oven is old and not up to baking, anyone have suggestions where to buy a delicious chocolate peppermint dessert?

T'giving dinner for seniors

Due to some family machinations, my dad and my uncle (both in their 80's) want to go out for T'giving dinner. Any suggestions on a place where they would be comfortable (non-trendy) and that has decent food that's a decent value?

We're in the Glendale/Pasadena area.
Thanks.

fresh chicken

Thanks. But at Whole Foods the smallest chickens are about twice the size I need.

fresh chicken

This weekend we are having a birthday dinner for my son. The recipe calls for 2 1/2 to 3 lb chickens and they need to be quartered. Foster Farms chickens might be this size (but are probably smaller) but I doubt a grocery store butcher would want to bother quartering packaged meet for me. Alternatively, I could go to Whole Foods where they will cut the chickens up but they're too large -- 5 or 6 lbs.

Does anyone have a recommendation for where I could get 2 1/2 to 3 lb chickens?
